Police interactions with conceal carry license?

I just got my CC license in the mail today and I’m curious what your interactions have been like with police since you got yours. I haven’t been pulled over in some time but I’m sure I’ll be pulled over again someday.I read an article once by a cop who was talking about how dispatch will tell him if he’s pulling someone over with a CC license and he wishes they wouldn’t do that because while he feels safer interacting with someone with a CC license since he knows they are law abiding citizens who went through the process, most other cops he knows are more on edge since they know the person is more likely to be armed. I assume cops aren’t informed of this in all jurisdictions. That article and the Philando Castile incident have me wondering if it wasn’t the best idea to get the license, but I feel more nervous now that I actually have it than I did when I was applying. A little booklet came with my license that gave suggestions on how to interact with police. I’ll follow the suggestions (eg hands on steering wheel, dome light on, no quick movements) but the fact that the state sent me that shows me the doj shares my concerns. As a black guy I’m particularly, though not exclusively, interested in stories from other black/brown people. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3d8d4zw

Is an OWB holster necessary for training ?

Crosspost/ edited for CCW.MAIN QUESTION: Currently looking into training and a lot of them suggest/require owb holsters. I have a couple of aiwb/iwb with phlster skeleton /pro series and the enigma. I don’t plan on owb carrying much.If I don’t plan to carry owb the often, but plan to eventually get my CCW , is it better off for me to just work with the enigma/aiwb during training? If I should get an owb, it lead me down to the rabbit hole to these next few questions…I was looking at 6378/7378 holsters because they were pretty cheap on Amazon. This lead me to the holster finder on the safari land website. It was broken up into 2 categories : duty and conceal. So a couple questions:What are the differences between the safariland duty/ conceal options? There’s a huge price difference. Is it worth the extra price ( buy once, cry once) or is it not necessary for my current needs?Any preferences between 6378/7378?Any other suggestions for owb holsters, specifically for training? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3EfbmIn

HELP: Short & Skinny Appendix Carry is Impossible?

TL;DR - despite following all of the common recommendations for skinny guy appendix carry, I am not even close to concealing my Glock 19. Anyone have any new advice?I know I know, there are "skinny guy AIWB" posts littered all over the internet. But most of these "skinny" guys list their stats as at least 5'9" and 150lbs+.... I'm 5'5" and 115lbs. I've yet to see a post online of a guy as small as me seeking help.Setup:Glock 19 with TLR-7AHolster: LAS Concealment Saya. Not the most commonly recommended holster but it has universally good reviews, is high quality, has a substantial claw, Discreet Carry Concepts clips, and I'm using a foam wedge with it as well. So the "use a good holster with foam wedge + claw" recommendation has been followed here.Belt: Blue Alpha Gear Hybrid EDC. One of the most highly regarded and recommended gun belts out there. Buckle is offset at the 10-11 o’clock position to reduce the amount of bulk up front where the holster is.Jeans: American Eagle AirFlex+ / 360 Flex jeans in skinny cut. Very stretchy to accommodate the holster; I have seen these jeans recommended in the past. I bought a 29 waist size (I usually wear 28 and still need a belt at that size). I tried on a 30 but it was gigantic on me. I'm a tiny dude, so any jeans that are not skinny cut make me look super unpresentable and baggy. Even slim cut does not work for me.Shirts: Thick, dark colored flannel button ups that are just a hair too big for me. Bought these because I've heard dark colors, patterns, thick material, and button ups are the absolute best garments for AIWB carry..Despite following all of these golden rules to appendix carry, when you look at me from the side I literally look like the letter "h". I’m not really printing, the entire setup is just bulging outward and is super noticeable. Not only is the grip above my belt line a problem, but the holster below the belt line is super noticeable as well. The zipper region of my jeans is just bulging out as if I have a fanny pack inside my jeans.I know I've only tried one setup so far, but I'm already discouraged after seeing how insanely far off I am. I have a Tier 1 Axis Elite on the way because the reputation of these holsters is INSANE. But I'm really not hopeful. How can I expect to effectively conceal my gun AND a spare mag if I can't even come close to concealing the gun alone???Oh yeah, by the way... everything I've been saying here was done using JUST THE FRAME OF THE GUN. My slide is currently getting cut for a red dot. So this will undoubtedly be 10x worse once the slide is in the picture. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3I7nIER

A book about self defense

A friend of mine, retired army instructor, wrote a book about his perspective and findings concerning use of firearms, regarding self defense, in civilian scenarios. He had some chapters translated and would like to get some feedback to decide whether to translate the rest.

We would appriciate it, if somebody gave it a read and left some feedback, we do read and take into account all of your comments.

I hope this post will not be flagged as spam since we sincerely hope for feedback as well as show another perspective through different eyes.

Concerning the author; he is a retired army instructor with 20 years of experience, where part of his time he served as an instructor for special forces. Up till this day he still continues to educate others and, same as in army, he provides different types of courses such as shooting, diving, survival, interrogation and many more. More detailed information about the author can be found in the link above with some of the chapters of the book.

Mounted Red Dot Sight and Weapon Light on Pistol For Flying On Airplane TSA

HI, I'm having difficulty trying to find the answer for this issue. I'm Trying to take my CCW that has a red dot and weapon light mounted on the pistol, on a plane. Will this be ok or will I have to remove them from the firearm and place the red dot and weapon light in my carry on? I'm just a little confused because TSA says batteries are not allowed in checked bags but I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this issue. Have you travelled via airplane with your red dot sight and weapon light mounted on your pistol? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3Ec46gg

Update:someone have been breaking in my house.

Hi. I wanted to make a small update on this.

I posted on here because I was scared someone was breaking in my house, moving things around, taking underwear and most important switching my meds.

I followed most of your advice, checked my carbon monoxide detectors were working right, made an appointment with my doctor and most important installed hidden cameras both inside and outside my house.

Turn out someone has been breaking in my house. And it was the security guard hired to made our area a little safe.

Not only he was breaking in but he was playing with my meds, putting placebo pills and putting higher dosis of sleep pills than I usually took etc.

They guy was weird and always wanted to make small talks with me. I started ignoring him when he started making comments about me living alone, me not being scare of walk to my home, that I have great legs etc never thought he could go that far. Guy is psychopath.

I called the police and this guy is facing charges. Even when he is under arrest I still don't feel safe going back home.

The time I had to draw my pistol after having my CWP for less than 2 weeks.

Freshly 21, got CWP in my state with no class bc of military service, decided I'd still take the class because I wanted to learn and make sure I knew the laws well enough to be responsible. Less than 2 weeks after being issued the permit, I was caught in a tough situation where I had to pull my pistol.2 hours into a 4 hour road trip I've made 10+ times at this point, stopping at a very familiar and busy gas station in broad daylight, in a town I know well. Leaving the busy gas station and I am in line in my truck waiting to pull out, maybe 2-3 cars in front of me, 10 or so behind. Good weather, windows down.I'd seen a fella in the gas station when I was grabbing a drink and he was a bit erratic. Not unlike some of the things I'd seen in this town, but still somewhat noteworthy. Same dude is about 5 cars behind me trying to cut his car in line ahead of a large SUV that won't let him in. He's screaming like hell, and I am watching in my mirror. I poke my head out when he goes beyond what I can see in my mirror and he sees me looking. I make no noise or gestures, and he points at me, and begins screaming some shit I can't understand. Hops in his car and pulls up, tires squealing and all, right next to me. By now, I should have had windows up and been maneuvering my truck to get the hell out, but this was my first real 'oh shit' encounter and I was wildly undertrained in real world situations and didn't realize what I had gotten myself into. My entire life was spent with guns in my hands, shooting in local pistol comps and trap shooting, hunting, etc. and I had never once felt this uncomfortable in a situation surrounding a firearm before.Gets to my truck before I realize "roll the window up shithead" and he's screaming as I am rolling it up. He gets a hand in the window, and onto the collar of my shirt. Still screaming god knows what, I can't remember well at this point, but I am pleading for him to stop. I normally carried pepper spray in the little compartment just left of my steering column but I had taken it out and given it to my sister not a week prior. Instead of continuing to roll the window, I reach for his hand to relieve the pressure on my collar, and for what feels like days I am telling him to relax and leave me alone. Finally, I decide I have no other choice, and I open my center console and pull my 19 I was carrying at the time. The handle doesn't get all the way out and he releases me, apologizing and backing off to his car immediately. I never lifted the gun above my dash, and never even pointed it at him. I put it away and once traffic moved I peeled out.In hindsight, there are ways I think I could have handled this better. But it was a great learning experience, and made me realize how much I didn't know and how much I wasn't prepared to handle in a split second. I am so thankful I wasn't hurt and I didn't have to hurt that man. I would imagine there was some serious amount of intoxication, and I should have noticed him earlier, determined the potential threat was real earlier, and avoided it earlier. Lesson learned, I am safer and more careful for it, and thankful we both went home alive. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/319x9Tc

Upgraded from a soft holster

https://ift.tt/3pb9ZEr via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3xzJagX

I had an encounter with Very Angry Man this weekend that made me think about de-escalation strategies. My thoughts, your feedback?

I was getting gas at a gas station this weekend. I went inside to grab a drink while the pumps were running glacially slow (like it took over 15 min to pump a tank of gas). As the pumps finished I decided I also needed to go back in and pee, so I moved my car from the pumps to the parking area since it was busy.As I was pulling into the parking spot, I notice a red Dodge Durango pull up and stop quickly two spots to my left. I recognized the red Durango because it had been parked crooked (like 30degrees) across handicapped spots when I left the store with my drink 3 minutes earlier, and had walked past it. I had looked casually to see any handicapped plates or tags (there were none, FWIW) but didn't see any driver or passenger in or around it.The Durango pulled up as I was opening my door with my left leg already out. The Durango driver threw his door open quickly and was immediately yelling angrily as he gets out. He was a Hispanic male in "wifebeater" undershirt, about 5'10" and muscular to my 5'11" and dad bod. My immediate thought was that he wanted to fight, not to receive some sort of apology, so instead of climbing out of the car to try verbal de-escalation, where he could have easily put hands on me while I was still getting out (he was 10ft away), I pulled my leg in, closed and locked the door.He got with 3ft of my window and continued yelling about how I was a pussy, a punk, and how I backed down and needed to get out of my car. While I sat in the car I looked closely at his face and kind of forgot until several seconds had passed to also look at his hands/waist. I kept a flat face and did not respond verbally. I may have nodded slightly or raised my eyebrows, I'm not really sure. I "fig-leafed" as inconspicuously as possible over my AIWB on the off chance he reached for a weapon or got a rock or something to try and come through the window. After about 15seconds of screaming, he went back to his car and it was only at that time that I noticed a female in the passenger seat that I THINK was yelling at him (could have been yelling at me). Then he drove off. This is the first "altercation" that I have been involved in since I started carrying. My thoughts/questions:I don't know what set him off, maybe he thought I was sizing up him/his girl/his ride when I looked at his car (illegally parked sideways in a handicapped spot, do you really expect people not to look at that?)I was (surprisingly) amazingly calm, both during and after. I was totally OK with "losing" the argument. Before CCW, that would have bugged me/my ego. I probably would have gotten out of the car, told him "whatever man" and tried to go inside the gas station while we jawwed at each other, where I would have had to let a bit of adrenaline wear off afterwards. Or if I had stayed in the car it would have bugged me all day that I didn't say something back to him. But I had zero adrenaline and zero regrets about anything how it happened.I had the presence of mind to be aware of his hands and had planned to draw concealed below the window if he reached for his waist/pockets. If he had produced a knife I would have stayed weapon down, and only raised / fired if he produced a gun. I thought about firing from a compressed ready, and I thought about how bad the tinnitus would be for the rest of my life. I was surprised all of that went through my head in a few seconds. But I didn't notice the passenger until after.QUESTION: The question that I'm debating is - once locked in my car, should I have cracked my window to offer an apology in an attempt to deescalate? I could see how some aggressors might take my flat face / silent treatment from behind a locked door as an ego challenge and be further escalated by it. The downside to cracking window for an apology is that while it's hard to punch through a car window, you can grab the edge of a window and break it easily. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3o4Oo0T

Considerations for CCW in hot / humid weather?

As I sit here waiting for the wheels of bureaucracy to do their thing, it’s dawning on me that the last time I regularly carried a firearm, I did so in a very different climate. Other than the obvious ‘everyone wears less clothes when it’s hot and humid’ side of concealment, what should I be taking into consideration? WV Concealed Carry Question

I live in WV which is both a constitutional and permitless carry state. It's great until you travel, at which point you have no license for reciprocity to apply. The other problem is that because a license isn't required, I cannot find any resources which show when/where classes are (the state requires live fire for certification so the 'online courses' Google is absolutely overloaded with won't do it).Any other fellow mountaineers out there who can help? Self defense against bullies

A lot of bullies like to pretend they are your friend but they do things like manipulate you into giving them things and sometimes even hit you as a joke. This happened to me, and I'm going to tell you how intimidation can work sometimes.

There was a girl who was my friend but often she would smack me across the head a LOT. When she would walk by me, when she would approach me, when I said something stupid, etc.

Anyways one day I got fed up and I was venting to a friend about it and I told her that "if she puts her hands on me one more time I'm going to beat the shit out of her" I didn't say it in a mad tone or with a mad expression but I said it in a certain way to show that I was serious. This friend of mine whom I told was also friends with her.

The friend that I told about this told her, and she never did it again.

Words really can do something sometimes. I was pretty small when this happened, real scrawny. I had been in a fight before this all happened with another girl who was in the friend group kind of. She was a bully and I did not want to fight her but it happened anyway. I got real good hits in but I was on the floor and in school everyone knows that if you're on the floor then you pretty much lost.

But maybe the fight i had been in before, scared her into thinking I would hurt her or something. At the time I wasn't really going to hit her if she hit me again but it was the start of me being able to defend myself against bullies.

NY Resident FL CCW

So kind of an interesting question. I’m a NY resident, I don’t have a NY pistol permit but I do have a FL CCW permit. I winter in Florida at a house where I am part owner. Seeing as I am not a FL resident could I potentially purchase a P80 kit and still be with in the legal limits of Florida? I’m not big on the idea of carrying a P80 but in the mean time until I change to Florida residency it’ll have to do. If it’s legal. Anyone here know if I’d still be on sides? Not sure if an order I placed for a holster is taking too long.

So I don’t want to try to put any company down or seem like I’m mad or blaming them but I ordered a custom holster for my APX back on June 12th. At the time the estimated wait time said 12-16 weeks, which I didn’t mind because I hadn’t even applied for my Philadelphia LTCF yet. It’s been almost 25 weeks now.Hopefully this isn’t a dumb question due to me not having a lot of experience but just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions or if I should just keep waiting it out.The only reason I ordered from this company was because I had trouble finding a company that had options to accommodate my setup (APX Combat w/ Inforce APLc). Now I’m debating if I should just take the light off and get a regular APX holster in the meantime. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3d1lmci

Hi everyone, I'm new to this sub and I want to start carrying. For those that carry AIWB, what slide/barrel length works best for you? I've heard that too short of a slide can make the gun "floppy" and too long can dig into you when bending. Review of some Nylon EDC Belts

With Cyber Monday/Holiday sales happening right now, I thought I’d post a sample selection of the nylon belts I currently own, with some notes and opinions on each one. I have gone through a couple of different brands throughout the years, including a few nylon belts that aren’t here (sold/tossed/etc.) and leather belts (I don’t use these often, only when the wardrobe requires it), and currently have the following: the belt that shall not be named, Vedder V3, BAG Low Profile EDC, and (my new favorite) the EDC Belt Co Foundation belt.Imgur of all belts: https://ift.tt/3180NYQ that shall not be namedhttps://imgur.com/a/9yVNbwDSo I bought this belt back when their marketing team was spamming this sub. I thought it would be my newest favorite belt, so I even bought a second belt and their hanger tool to store them in my closet easier. The first time I wore it was (yeah I know…) on a 20+ hour cross country road trip. Honestly it wasn’t too bad during the drive because I’d just click the button and loosen in the car. Being able to tighten and loosen it discreetly was a huge plus. However it was way too stiff for my liking. I didn’t wear it long enough to see any wear or QC issues like others have (re: that recent post), but the belt formed a perfect circle around me. Back then I was pretty lean so it actually pushed my pants out and would print against my shirts. Also it caused unnecessary wear on my clothes because of this (shirts and pants rubbing against the belt) and was uncomfortable/felt weird to wear because it pushed my pants out. Sitting down was also weird because I’d have to pull my pants up (especially from behind) and slightly loosen it every time. They sell for $60ish each and for that money I’d go with one of the others on this list. They have a sale going on but I still wouldn’t recommend it (to not even mention the crummy marketing techniques and sub brigading that caught me too).Vedder V3 belthttps://imgur.com/a/ZI9G4r2So this one is actually kind of cool. I’ve owned a few hybrid/cobra belts for EDC but never really liked them because I carry AIWB and even when offsetting the buckle I’d get some unnecessary printing (it would also push into my hip which was very uncomfortable). This, however, serves like a hybrid belt (as in the length remains the same and it is not difficult to put on or remove), but has no effective buckle (in terms of printing or footprint) AND comes with a small builtin loop where the material folds over itself (at the buckle). This may seem unimportant to most of you, but I place this “buckle” at me 3:00 or 9:00 and like to keep my keys (just a few, nothing too bulky) on carabiner on the belt loops at that location. With this belt (and the BAG belt), I’m able to tuck my keys (even if just some of them) into this built in loop within the belt and keep my keys from dangling off my hip, which a) looks better and b) minimizes the jingling sound from my keys (stealthy af). I’ve spoken to both BAG and Vedder and they confirmed that they use the same distributor for their materials, so as far as materials, they’re both both the same stiffness (which is my goldilocks stiffness). The buckle here is some type of metal (not plastic) and I don’t doubt its integrity. And because some people do worry about this: I don’t think anyone can easily undo the belt in a tussle or struggle; they would have to slightly tighten the belt, bring the loop up (maybe at a slight angle too) and undo it that way. Because it isn’t a common belt loop, I doubt anyone will be able to do this without seeing the buckle prior (which shouldn’t happen if you have a shirt over your waist). The velcro prt is just for initial setup, then you place the included rubber band on top of it, and you’re set (until you want to adjust it again and remove the band to do so). If you like hybrid/cobra buckle style belts and carry AIWB, this would be a great alternative. If you go with Vedder for a holster (their LightTucks are popular), especially during a sale (see link below), I recommend just adding one of these and saving the $9 on shipping (so between the sale and $9 shipping the belt would be like $40).https://ift.tt/3FVqjzL Low Profile EDC Belthttps://imgur.com/a/eBfnhUCSo this belt used to be my absolute favorite daily driver belt for the last couple of years. The black belt pictured had been my EDC for the last 2ish years and is still holding up great. I have purchased maybe 3-4 of these belts from BAG (and 2 outer/inner belt combos for duty and range use) over the past couple years and they are what I always recommended to new members of this sub. Up until this year they were $35 and came with all the features of the V3, except it’s a velcro style buckle belt that is sized each time you don the belt. Velcro might not be the most discreet adjustment, but it’s easy and quick to do if necessary (long car trip, big meal, or even need to tighten a bit more if in a non permissive environment). It also has that built in loop feature that I use to place my keys in. BAG doesn’t really run sales (and they are upfront about that). Definitely still recommend.https://ift.tt/3cTcCF8 Belt Co Foundation Belthttps://imgur.com/a/8XtcQKIOk so here’s the new guy. I bought this a couple weeks ago and have been EDCing it for the past week or two. I’d like to say it’s like BAG, but it isn’t really. The buckle is worn upfront (metal) and I lose that key keeper feature, but oh well. It still has that velcro adjustability that you can do on the go and the supportive stiffness that BAG offers. The biggest thing here though is that the entire back area is not stiff. This has been a game changer for my daily comfortability and even clothes wear. I find myself working in an office environment and taking a backpack along with me daily. What I mean by this is because the belt is stiff all around, it pushes the pants outwards slightly (not to the degree no name belt does though) + it’s a stiff belt with nylon edges/material; when sat against or carrying a backpack, clothes tend to create friction and this creates wear on them. Having a non-stiff back allows it to function as a carry belt in the front and a regular nylon belt in the back. This is my new absolute favorite belt. To memory I bought this for $49 shipped after a redditor from this community sent me his, which did not fit him correctly, ended up being too big for me, gave it to one of my friends who absolutely loved it, so I bought my own. I noticed there’s a sale going on rn ($38 + $5 shipping) that puts it very very closely to BAG’s belts, so I bought another:https://ift.tt/3DXpV38 note about this belt: I bought my first one a size up from my pants, which worked great for my double stack, side car style carry set up (had some more space for tightening). However, carrying my single stack Glock on its own (no IWB magazine), the belt is ratcheted to its absolute tightest, which works great as well, but can’t tighten it further. To memory I measured my waist (instructions on that website), according to the side car style setup, so it worked as measured, but if you have slimmer setups, maybe go a size down (since you can loosen it up to 3 inches but can’t tighten it further).A good carry belt is necessary for comfortable, secure, effective (you want the gun in the same place, at the same angle, same tilt, every time you go to draw), and discreet carry. I’d feel comfortable recommending any of the last three (BAG, Vedder V3, and Foundation Belt) to anyone looking for a low footprint nylon belt.Let me know if you have any questions! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3xwFyfA

Thumb release holster for 4:00 carry?

I don’t carry my Glock 19.4 often (usually I carry a p365 in a pocket holster), but when I do I carry at 4:00. I use a basic kydex IWB holster when I do.One of the downsides of carrying at 4:00 is that sometimes when I reach down the back of my shirt will either lift up to expose the gun or it will print. My concern is that someone could use this opportunity to pull the firearm from my waist. Is there a solid holster you would recommend for 4:00 IWB carry? Is there a holster with a thumb mechanism on the market for this type of carry? Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3nYQ4Jc

IWB holster that keeps the gun low?

Hi all, I'm looking for an IWB holster for a Springfield Hellcat that keeps the gun low on my waist for appendix carry.I have a kydex holster by Rounded for my Glock 19 that I like a lot, except that it prints constantly because the gun sits too high on my waist. The Hellcat is smaller than the Glock, but not so much smaller that the same holster would not cause the Hellcat to print. Also, I understand that it's important to be able to get a good grip on the gun when drawing it, and that carrying it too low would make that impossible. But I can't carry every day with so much printing going on, so maybe I'm looking for a compromise solution. Thanks in advance for your help! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3lfAjMv

Reminder: don’t forget to clean your weapon lights!

As I’m sure many of you have seen, when you are training with your weapon lights mounted they tend to gather excess carbon, ect. For those who are new to CCW/Firearms in general, don’t forget to clean that excess carbon off your weapon light after a range session. The light isn’t very effective if the lens is covered in black dust! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3lbYScT
