I think modern defense karambits should have the outside edge sharpener compared to the inside edge
This would only work for the fixed blade but they would work so much better for defense
You draw it the ice pick grip like always and it works off your instincts to hammer fist and would cut just as deep cause of body mechanics.
I still say a straight blade with a ring works better in all situations cause you can effective use it with either hand but that's besides the point
Knife guys seriously grab your trainer or single edged karambit and play with that back side of the blade, you'll see what I mean
