Suggestions for self defense gears in hours long daily commutes in public transportations?

Hi all, so I commute everyday in a highly populated area in CA, USA, and spend roughly 3-4 hours for my commutes every single day sitting in light rails and bus, waiting at stops, walking on street. It’s been reported many times crazy people in the public transportations I take stab people randomly to death; and the mass shootings in the public area for past few years have been terrifying. I am hoping to reduce the chances of getting killed by loonies in my daily commutes. Anyone has suggestions for some kind of protective gears for a civilian like me can get hold of? I am willing to spend some money to not die while getting to work. The only thing I have found so far is self defense umbrella, but probably not very useful if I don’t learn to some kinda of baton martial art. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

Riverside CCW Livescan

So I'm on the sheriff department's webpage, filled out the application for a new permit, picked a date, class is scheduled, etc.I noticed in the fees it says live scan. Is there some paperwork somewhere for it? Do they scan you at the interview? Can I go to any authorized live scan place and just get it done? Live scan seems to not be anywhere on the webpage other than the fees for it.TIA! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2SFBze6

CCW Process In Idaho

Follow up to my previous post. I'll be taking the class and applying for the Idaho enhanced out of state permit while on a 10 day visit there in late April. I've heard conflicting reports about the process.Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I read I need to:take the classgo to dmv for fingerprints/background checktake all that and submit to the sheriffCan someone recommend which counties in southern Idaho mail out the license once it's issued? I've heard reports that some sheriffs require you to come in and pick it up in person. Also, any recommendations on where to take the class that includes the range portion? Thanks in advance. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2QhIqcl

Question About Re-holstering Appendix Carry

Hello,I've begun recently looking into AIWB and have concluded I want to go with a Glock condition 1. Once the Glock is in a holster it is inert (in my mind) and I have no problems with it pointing at my body. However, reholstering seems to be where most of the danger comes from. I see people saying "strong leg back, hips forward, check holster, slowly reinsert" which sounds great... but nearly *every* video of people live firing Glocks from AIWB they don't go through that cumbersome routine - they might give a quick peek into the holster, then they quickly reholster it. I feel like this is one draw string away from disaster. As goofy as this sounds could taking your holster off to reholster be a viable solution? It sounds silly, but I feel like it gives such a great amount of protection... any thoughts? Thanks via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/37uzWEb

Appendix IWB

Just wanted to know your guys opinion on IWB appendix carry I've been doing appendix carry ever since I got my permit. I'm a fairly slim guy been trying to put on weight but for about now I'm 5'6 143lbs but I was told it was a stupid idea or "don't do it you'll shoot your dick off" and "when you're fighting with someone they have quick access to your gun". Honestly I don't feel like it's a bad spot I mean sure it's pointed down to mini me but it conceals nice, doesn't print, and since I've been training with it I've been working on my draws and it's seem good and quick to me. I just wanted to hear your guys opinions/ pros and cons on it maybe it would help give me ideas on changing it later or keep on doing what I've been doing. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/35eUyPw

Carrying an internally modified handgun

What's the consensus around here about carrying a modified handgun? I'm talking more about modified trigger, trigger pull, springs, firing pin. Say for example, I have a CZ P-01 that I would like to have cajunized with Cajun Gun Work's "Defensive Carry Package" which consists of lowering the Double Action trigger pull to 8lbs as well as the Single Action trigger pull to 3lbs and cuts the reset by 50%. Would something like that be inadvisable in a CCW gun in case one were to get in a defensive shooting and have to explain your pistol's modifications. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2QAakz3

Carrying in the bank.

So I recently finally got my CCW and started carrying for the first time today. Had to make a run to the bank to deposit some checks and I didn’t think to wear a jacket over my T-shirt because I’m an idiot apparently. It honestly felt so wrong to be carrying a gun in the bank and I honestly thought that someone would see it and scream “HES GOT A GUN!” or some shit. Luckily nobody did that but everybody could see it because when I turned around to head out of the bank I was getting quite a few dirty looks (I live in Miami. It’s somewhat liberal here) and when I opened the door for a lady she grabbed her purse. Lesson learned, wear some kind of jacket or get a super long T-shirt. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/36dyupR

Belly band holsters

I recently added the P365 to my rotation since it’s smaller and easier to conceal. My only concern is when I’m at the gym or when I wear athletic clothing. I need advice for my coworker regarding pocket carry vs inside the waistband

After the recent Texas church shooting, I was talking to with my coworker about what happened. We both felt like we need to train more so we can have a fast draw from concealment. My coworker says he is especially worried because he pocket carries with an LCP2, and it takes him about 6-7 seconds to get his first shot off. He said that he has tried to carry inside the waistband, but he says it's just too uncomfortable for him. He said if he can't be comfortable, he won't carry, and he would rather have something than nothing. He carries his pocket pistol in a holster similar to the clinger holster.I told him that there may be something out there that will help him carry inside the waistband without it being super uncomfortable. I figured you guys could help.He is 6 feet tall, probably 180-190 lbs. Decently fit. Wears normal jeans (not baggy, but not skinny jeans) and usually wears a t shirt. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2ZBX8xO

Pocket carry suggestion for someone of my size

I’m a very slim guy (5’7 120 lbs) which puts me at a major disadvantage when it comes to conceal carrying. I have a Sig P365 which worked out great using the van guard holster. However, I attended an event in a suit when I realized that I need a solution to carry while tucking in a shirt, and for during the summer months.I ordered a belly holster and an ankle holster, both were epic fails. Because I am so small, it’s just too obvious that I am holding something in my body. Pocket carrying just makes it look like I have an extra large wallet in my pocket. So, I’m going to need to resort to something smaller than the p365 for the occasions that I will need to pocket carry (or possibly ankle/belly carry). Caliber doesn’t matter to me, as this would be a secondary pistol that I would only rarely use. Anyone have a suggestion for a pistol that would best suit my needs? Thanks in advance via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2ZKwlzl

Belt advice?

My Sidechick from Bradford Tactical is due to be delivered any day now and I need solid recommendations on a gun belt for everyday wear. A local place has the Crossbreed Executive in black which I looked at in person and liked a lot, but I want to match my boots in brown if I can. I have read great things about Hanks and other brands on this sub, but I still don't know where to start. I'm somewhere between a 36 and 38 inch waist and don't know how much longer I should go in terms of belt size. Everything I read says something different. Can anyone who has a similar setup give me some advice? If it matters it's for an xds 9mm 3.3 with a 7 or 8 round in the gun and a 9 round extra mag, at least for now. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2QAWvQS

GPS to avoid a particular state

As mentioned in the title, does anyone know a gps app, preferably iOS, that can route the “best”, “fastest”, or shortest route from A to B while avoiding a particular state? As you’re probably all aware not every state acknowledges other states licenses and I thought although niche, there might be a gps that had this as a routing option. Anyone else after getting their permit feel like "I'll get there" in terms of EDC setup?

Let me just jump to the point. I know a flashlight is a must, a knife, and probably a first aid kit eventually.I have two great EDC belts, an excellent Kydex holster and some EDC pants ... and that's about it. The thing is, I've already spent in excess of $600 between the firearm and the CCW application / process. That's not even counting any accessories. It seems silly to grovel about a $30 flashlight and a $60 knife at this point. But then I also think about all that weight on my person, being a new carrier and it kind of becomes overwhelming. Right now I'm just trying to work out the best way to carry a 2nd mag and get used to the weight of my firearm.Anyone else feel like they want all the gear but there are other factors getting in the way? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2MHtrG6

Young epileptic female looking for self defense advice

I’ve seen a lot of posts about heavy flashlights, but I unfortunately have photosensitive epilepsy and occasionally get bothered by quick lighting changes. Tasers and knives don’t strike me as great options because of the close range they’d require, though maybe I’m wrong there. I’m very tall (5”9-5’10”) and wiry.

I’m wondering what my options are at this point besides ofc practicing sprints and avoiding traveling alone/sketchy situations. I’m not super comfortable floating the idea of a gun; is pepper spray always enough?

Good pocket holster fir ruger lcp gen 1

Does anyone know of a good pocket holster for this gun. It came with one but it is complete crap for carry in overall bib pocket. The included holster is also too big to fit into the smaller snap bib pocket. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2QamFek

I've changed my mind on Stealthgear

I purchased a StealthGear Onyx about four years ago and I've worn it literally every day since I bought it with the exception of when I went on two cruises. In that time I've had it replaced or repaired three times and a few days ago the kydex broke again for the second time. I am not an exceptionally active guy. I work in a service related industry and spent most of my day standing in one place. I don't run, jump, and roll on it or abuse it in any substantial way. Twice the backing has come apart, twice the kydex has broken and this time they couldn't even be bothered to email me back.Although it's exceptionally comfortable I just can't reccomend their product anymore. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2MI30QJ

Volunteer Church Security and CCW insurance

CCW insurance is all the rage now. I'm curious of what the community thinks - does your CCW coverage, intended to indemnify you if you get sued after shooting someone, still valid when you're increasing the risk to the insurance company by volunteering to carry a gun and be a de-facto security force every Sunday at your local church? I question whether the insurer will deny coverage as a risk they never assumed - you being a security guard on a weekly basis rather than a CCW carrier protecting yourself and loved ones.Just a question rattling around in my head. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2u2qObz

Paranoid and unsure

So I’m messing around with the lighttuck holster from vedder holsters, and I don’t feel like I’m doing this right. I don’t have anyone that I know who conceal carries (or carries at all). I was just messing around with cant and whatnot, the belt is in the works... but is this supposed to be tighter against your body? I’m 5’2”, 132 pounds... appendix carry isn’t really an option for me - left handed as well... trying to add pictures for reference. Any help is appreciated.
