Vedder Pocket Locker vs. Alabama Front Pocket Holster

Currently I carry a PM9 in a sticky-type holster in my front pocket. Sometimes it's in jeans which are not loose, chinos, cargo shorts, or dress pants. What I don't like about the holster is that no matter how tight or loose the pants are, the gun tends to stay in the holster as I pull it from my pocket. The pocket itself will often come out sticking to the holster. Since the holster is not stiff, my only way to draw from my pocket is to reach over with my left hand, grab the bottom seam of the holster through my pants leg and pull the gun out of the holster.Looking for thin since I sometimes carry in jeans which leads me to kydex. I like the idea of a thumb tab to push down on the release the gun from the holster with one hand. I've seen the hooks, but I would prefer the weapon be clear of the holster as soon as it's out of the pocket. Alabama seems to have a less gun-like shape to the outside. A plus, but not that big a deal to me.The Vedder and the Alabama seem to fit that spot. Same price so no decider there. Is there any other compelling reason to go with one or the other? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qHqTu5

Glock 42 to replace Shield over summer? Something else?

How are newer 42s holding up? I'm not getting rid of my shield but not only do I just want something new but I've been getting more into .380s lately and want something that's comfortable for my large hands but not as large as the shield.I wear shorts a ton in the summer and I shot the original LCP and it's just too small. Any recommendations? Money overall isn't a huge factor. Sure, the cheaper the better but I'm not on a tight budget.I'm really not concerned about the 380 ballistics issues. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2rFCxuu

How could the Portland attack victims have saved their lives?

I have personally been in very similar situations, where I had to interfere with racist/homophobic attacks or harassment in public places. I was surprised by how effective the Portland murderer was in not just immobilizing his victims but killing them with a knife. Not knowing what sort of knife he used (anyone?) I imagine the victims could have defended themselves with Mace. Am I being overly optimistic there? Are there better self-defense mechanisms against a knife attack apart from (duh) a gun?

Traveling to Rocky Mountain National Park with my Minnesota permit

So, just thought I would check to get a little confirmation on what I suspect. I hold a Minnesota resident permit, and I will be traveling to Rocky Mountain National Park in CO. My understanding is that CO doesn't recognize MN permits, or any non-resident permits. Is there any way for me to legally carry in the national park, or in CO for that matter? LCR holster recommendations?

I'm a small guy (5'4", 117 lbs, 26" waist) and I'm looking for a slim holster for my LCR which will look okay under my baby GAP clothes. Part of my issue is that I live in an extremely hot environment, so cover garments would rarely be worn. I've tried a desantis softuck, but it hasn't worked out. The grip doesn't print, but everything else looks enormous! Any suggestions are appreciated. Perhaps something geared more towards women would work? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qBq06W

Open carrier made me nervous.

My mother was in town visiting so I decided we could walk around the mall before dinner. We came across a group of what looked like teenagers. Being loud, obnoxious, horsing around. I happened to glance as they passed and noticed one was open carrying a glock at his 4 o'clock.I know it's legal to open carry in Alabama without a permit, but I thought that kind of behavior was risky. Plus it made me doubt if he could make the right call if a situation occurred.Your thoughts? I was ccing my p320 that day. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2se5YAu

Where do you loctite the screws on your hybrid holster?

This is probably a dumb question, but as far as I can tell there are four points of contact on a hybrid holster's screws:between the backing and the screwbetween the backing and the soft screw coverbetween the soft screw cover and the Kydexbetween the Kydex and the screw head / washerWhich of these four do I loctite? I'm guessing #1 and #4 but #2 and #3 wouldn't make much difference. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qAHosm

Need more comfortable belt for Shield 9mm. Wilderness Original Instructor too stiff.

I have the 5 stitch version in 1.5". By the end of the day I feel like I've been carrying a rope around my waist. This is the only belt ive owned so I'm relying on others experience. Experience with the Stealth Gear "Utiliclips" or with the standard clips on a 1.25" belt?

As the title implies, I'm curious if anyone has experience or opinions on the SG Utiliclips, or have used the regular clips with a 1.25" belt?I was set on replacing my MTAC with a Stealth Gear; however, I have numerous 1.25" belts that I love and do not want to replace. I asked SG about it, and they said they only have the one size clip but suggested the Utiliclips. I'm concerned this won't offer optimal support, however. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2rEaxY3

Kydex pocket holster that prints like a wallet?

Can anyone recommend a pocket holster that has kydex covering the trigger guard but also has something to break up the shape of the gun or causes it to print like a wallet? The Desantis Superfly has a flap that covers the exterior portion of the holster that makes the entire set up print like a wallet. I would prefer to have kydex covering the trigger guard. Does anyone know of a pocket holster that achieves both? For anyone curious, it will be very important that it prints like a wallet or something similar, as it will be used in dress slacks and will undoubtedly print to a certain degree. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qykJB3

Deciding on a WML for my CCW

So I've been searching for a WML for quite a while now and have finally narrowed it down to two options, the surefire XC1 and the surefire x300 ub. Now, I've done all of the research and reading that I possibly can about both lights and also the pro's and con's of having a wml and I am aware of the aversion that some people have towards them. All I want to know is what you all think about these two lights, your experience with either of them, and, considering that they both cost roughly the same, whether or not you would sacrifice the compactness of the XC1 for the additional lumens of the x300 ub if you were definitely going to purchase one of the two. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2sjsB5X

Self defense

So I bought a new 9mm a few weeks ago. I was wondering if carrying Pepper gel with the firearm on my side would be a good back up option before ever having to use the pistol. I think having multiple back up options would be good instead of immediately going for the gun. I have a SABRE stun gun and sabre pepper gel with the 9mm. Is it a good idea ?

I'm thinking of replacing my M&P9 Shield. Got any recommendations on a good replacement? More details inside.

So a while back I decided to get a S&W M&P9 Shield, as I saw it was a very popular handgun for concealed carry purposes. Unfortunately, it seems I have a rather difficult time controlling it. I went to the shooting range with my father, and with his handgun (Sig Sauer P320, I think it was a compact version), I was able to keep my shots pretty consistent, typically within a 6" radius at 15 yards. With my own...well, it was more like a 30" radius at 15 yards. It is not even that I am hitting high, low, or any particular direction. I am just hitting all over.I know it isn't the gun, as my father was able to do a bit better than I could with it, but I do recognize that if I can't hit with it, there is no sense in carrying (besides trying to scare a potential attacker). I think it is a difference in the recoil, but honestly I don't feel a difference between them.Anyway, what are your thoughts? Do you have any recommendations on a gun that I might be able to control a little more easily, but still could conceal easily enough? It doesn't have to be the smallest gun in the world, as I am a somewhat tall person, but small enough to be an effective carry option. And hopefully, this isn't something too expensive, though I don't have a set budget in mind.Sorry if I should have searched on this first. With the Shield being pretty popular, I didn't know if it would help too much to search. And thanks in advance! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qALGz9

strange encounter walking alone.

Hey guys new to the sub and while I've been an avid firearms enthusiast for years I am new to ccw. Just wanted to share an experience I had this evening. while I was taking a walk after dinner downtown in a small college town I was stopped by homeless man on the sidewalk. He stepped in front of me and politely asked for me to buy him liquor, I told him I couldn't do that, he got kinda upset and his demeanor instantly changed. He then told me since I won't buy him his bottle he was going to take my sunglasses. Now I am a small guy about 135lbs. Once he said that I took a few steps back and told him that wasn't a good idea. He then mouthed off and went to sit back in his corner and I continued my walk. Now while i didn't even put a finger on my firearm it was really nice to know I had some protection in case that went ugly. He was much bigger than me and could have over powered me easily in a fight. Boring story, I know, but I wanted to share how having a cww was able to give confidence and peace of mind in a potentially dangerous situation. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ryVY88

KS HiPo became my new best friend. Pulled over while carrying.

In April 2016, on a Tuesday, my newborn daughter had to be transferred via air transport from a small hospital NICU to a larger hospital NICU across the state for surgery. The Air transport allows one parent to accompany the patient on the airplane, and my wife went, leaving me a 3 hour drive before being reunited with them.I left them at the door as they headed off with EMS and I went to my truck. I stopped and filled up with fuel, grabbed some clean clothes for the both of us, picked up my father in law and headed towards the destination hospital.Halfway in to the trip, on a long open stretch of divided highway, doing in between 90-95 in a 75, I see a car traveling the opposite direction flip on the red & blues & pull a uturn in the median of the divided highway. Knowing full well the officer was responding to my speeding, I immediately turned my hazard lights on, and pulled over as far to the right as I could get. I shut the engine off, placed my keys on the dash, and turned on all the lights in the cab, as it was after dark at this point. I retrieved my drivers license, license to carry, and had my father in law pass me the registration and proof of insurance from the glovebox, and rolled down my window. When the officer approached my door, I already had all my documents in my left hand, clearly visible, with my right hand on the steering wheel. The conversation went as follows:Officer: Good evening, I'm officer something something with the Kansas Highway Patrol, might there be any justification for your excessive speed this evening?Me: Sir, My name is Comeinayyha, I have a license to carry a weapon and am doing so on my right hip, here are all my documents. I was speeding this evening because my 9 day old baby girl is on air transport with her mother from hospital A to hospital B, in need of surgery, and we don't yet know if they will proceed with surgery tonight, or tomorrow morning. I am simply trying to get to Hospital B as quickly as possible. The officer looked through my licenses and paperwork, handed me back my carry license and said "Ok, just one moment," and walked back to his cruiser. He returned a moment later and handed me my paperwork.Officer: I know you have a reason to be in a hurry, but we just want to make sure everyone is being safe this evening. Keep your speed to around 84 the rest of the way on this highway and no one will bother you.I thanked him profusely, started the truck, checked my mirror and wrapped it up to around 84. He followed me for a mile or so with the lights going, then turned off.No speeding ticket, no written warning, barely a verbal warning. He helped me out in a few ways. Not piling a speeding ticket on to the mountain of stress we had been developing, processing the traffic stop quickly & getting me back on the road, and telling me it was ok to push my speed a little. We made it to the hospital shortly there after, where I had to disarm and store in a lockbox in my truck, because the hospital is a posted facility. Did my license to carry help in my interaction? Maybe, can't be for sure. Just better to not find out how the interactions go without it.Tldr; got pulled over, no ticket, officer gave a mph recommendation that still allowed me to break the speed limit. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2rdO94w

Picked up my second Sig over the weekend!

My Sig family has finally grown. My first Sig was a P229 Legion in 357 Sig. Immediately became a Sig guy.I know everyone has been digging the P320 recently. When I first saw it, I wasn't a huge fan of how it looked. But when I held it two weekends ago... I did a complete 180. The ergonomics are incredible. This led me to sell a gun and I picked up my P320 RX Compact yesterday!http://ift.tt/2sfe62Z've already ordered a small Subcompact grip, mag, and APEX flat trigger that should be here this weekend. 9mm or .40 cal recommendations?

Hi everyone, sorry if I fail to describe what I'm looking for as I'm not good with the terminology I've seen here lately. I'm a college student who is 21 years old and am looking for a good handgun to carry with me. I've handled guns all my life but I know nearly nothing about handguns to conceal-carry. I'm looking for a gun that is going to have good stopping power without going overboard, and from my understanding, that is typically a 9mm or a .40 cal handgun (I'm leaning more 9mm because the ammo is cheaper), but if you guys think otherwise let me know.As for body, I obviously want a gun that I can conceal, but I'm wanting it to be decently sized, as I've handled a few sub-compacts that are incredibly uncomfortable for me to shoot simply because I felt like I was handling a toy. * I WILL be going to a shooting range to try different guns before I purchase.I am looking to spend between $500-$800, but I'm only willing to spend the extra money if it will truly be worth it in the long run, as I plan to have any gun I own last a lifetime if taken care of properly.TLDR: I'm looking for a good 9mm to .40 cal handgun that is reliable, not too small, and that I can conceal-carry as a 21 year old male who is familiar with handling guns. I'd appreciate any recommendations this sub-reddit has to offer! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2rdMhZu

Nationwide database of "No Guns Allowed" locations?

For Texas, there is a website that identifies locations which have posted signs prohibiting either concealed or open carry:http://ift.tt/2sdHlmY is also a mobile app for this database, which uses location services to alert you of those locations in your immediate area.My question is if there is anything equivalent available out there that has a nationwide database? This TX one seems pretty decent, but I notice some entries are out of date, and I see that several posted locations I am aware of are missing. First cop encounter while carrying concealed

I got pulled over going home from work, not paying attention to speed, S&W Bodyguard was in my right front pocket in a Desantis holster. I rolled down all windows, turned the car off, and told the cop as he reached the back door that I was carrying concealed (duty to inform state.) I already had DL and permit in my hands. Cop asked me where it was, what I was carrying, and he told me his on-duty pocket carry was a G43. He ran everything, and told me to slow down, that's it. It probably helped that my last speeding conviction was in 1994. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2s6FtNq

More thoughts on Church Carry

Throwaway, for reasons...Just wanted to offer one more perspective and encourage a bit more discussion on the Church Carry debates, since there's been a few threads about that recently.First, the need: The Charleston Church shooting should be enough to show need for some level of church security. Whether that's formal security, or just guys/gals wanting to conceal carry for themselves. At my church, we've had some custody battles, ugly divorces, and angry boyfriends who've not taken a liking to us when we've tried to help out some women in our church. The church often will get blamed for things like breaking up families, when in reality what we're doing is trying help and protect battered women. That makes us a target for angry ex's. Also, some people are just mentally unstable (see Charleston Church shooting). There are more examples, but those are the big ones.Second, our "security" team: In this previous thread, the idea of having volunteer security was pretty well shot down. I agree with a lot of what was said in that thread, but wanted to offer some perspective on what our church does. Feel free to comment/critique.What we have is a small team of volunteers who care about the safety of our body. We actually like to call it our "safety team", since we have trained medics and nurses on the team in case of a medical emergency. We take the roll seriously, but no one is under the delusion that we are somehow trained security or the police. We are a very small church, and we don't have the funds to pay for private security. If there was a cheap way to get an off duty officer to hang out at the building, we would certainly consider that. We do however have multiple ex-military guys, including a Green Beret and a Navy SEAL. Again, we're not looking to play cops and robbers, but we've gotten a lot of advice and training from these guys. They've been very helpful. The roll of the team is primarily to keep an eye out. If something looks like it's going down, our goal is to deescalate. If things start getting heated, we'll call the police. That's it. Most of our job is keeping an eye on the hallways that lead to the kids classrooms, and if there's someone wandering around, we ask if we can help them. We take protecting our kids extremely seriously. Also, we keep an eye on the front doors for people wandering in late. We'll offer to help them find a seat, get some coffee, etc. However, if someone wanders in looking for trouble, we call the cops. Here's where the CCW part comes in. A few of us choose to carry. Most of us would be carrying regardless, and has little to do with being on the safety team. If some deranged person decides to start waving/shooting a gun around, then there are people on the team with the ability to fire back. That's it. We're not trying to play Commando or Paul Blart. We're just keeping an eye on things, ready to call the police, but potentially fire back if the need absolutely arose. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2rdZFiC

Road trip question. Florida to Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a simple overview of concealed carry laws in the states I listed above. I'm planning a Moto trip from Florida up through Georgia and meandering around Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. I understand those states have reciprocity with Florida, but I'm not sure of all their specific laws regarding concealed carry. Any specific restrictions I should be aware of? G21 vs G30 for CCW

Hello, I have been eyeing the Glock 30 for a while as I enjoy the way it shoots and because I could use it as my CCW on occasion. However, I found a really good deal on a Gen 3 Glock 21 today and almost bought it but I hesitated because I have wanted a gun in 45 that I could conceal and wasn't sure how well the 21 could be carried. So, to those out there that have the 21 and 30 (or just the 21) is the 21 much more difficult to carry? Do any of you regularly carry the the 21? lt looked manageable but I figured I would ask you all. Thanks for any input you can provide. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2r2rREk

I don't understand carry in church

Let me start by saying this is not intended to offend. I know guns and religion can be hot button topics and I only ask to satisfy own curiosity. It's something I'm trying to understand.I was raised a Catholic, did all my sacraments, was an altar boy for many years. I grew apart from the church not out of hate. I respect everyone's right to worship as they choose. What I don't understand are the comments I've seen here and other places regarding a security detail or some other form of security type need at services. Have things chanced? Is there really a need for armed security at church services? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qxnP3k
