My turn - LE Encounter

Since there have been a spate of these recently, thought I'd share mine from this evening.Ran through a license checkpoint - they do those in my state. Flipped the dome light on as I came up on it. Handed my license and CHL to the LEO - a younger guy. Told him I was armed. No fucks were given. Checked my tag and off I went. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jTlmhn

Wing vs Claw for skinny AIWB

I've been carrying a G43 appendix for the last few months and since it is winter I haven't had any issues. Yesterday I threw on a tshirt for the first time since carrying and have found that my G43 prints bad at any angle especially with the Hyve +1 I'm using. For better information I'm 5'11" 130lbs with a 30" waist aka a stick. My question for the CCW community is how many of you prefer the wing style holsters such as Zorn Skinny Rig vs claw style like the JMCK Wing 2.0 or vice versa? The Zorn is cheaper and has a quick ship option but if the wing won't help tuck the grip towards me I'd rather wait a few months for the JMCK. Thanks guys! Sorry for the long post! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jSzcAw

Question about appendix carry.

I don't know if anyone else has this issue, but when I am practicing drawing from the holster. I can't get a complete purchase on the grip and as I draw I have to shift my hand. I was wondering what might I need to do to adjust this issue? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2js7aQ8

Call 911 or Non-Emergency Number after Drawing

I was just wondering if you would call 911 or the non-emergency police number after you drew? I know you would call 911 if you had to actually shoot your weapon, but what about when you just drew and the assailant ran away? Also what would you say to the operator? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jRNd3P

LC9s vs. Glock 19MM for CCW

Carried a Baretta 92A1 for a few years until I had to move to NYC for work (ugh). Finally in FL where I can carry, and now I'm looking for a small gun. I've recently bought a LC9S on the rec from a friend who's a former LEO, and while I can get a decent 2" grouping at 15 yards, it's shit beyond that.I grew up with Glocks in the house, and I can really handle myself well with one, but I wanted to see what r/CCW thinks about the 19 for CCW in comparison. Thoughts? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kNEaCG

LE Encounter - First (and only) time.

The other day here in FL, I was stopped for running a red light. It was totally my fault, I was on my way to work and in a rush, and I took the yellow way later than I should have. LE lights me up, I pull over. Like most, flashers on, hands at noon, and dome light on.Officer walks up, asks me if I knew why he pulled me over. I said yes, and that I wanted to inform him that I am a CHL holder and currently carrying inside my boot (cowboy boot LC9s). He asked me to step outside and if he could remove it. I of course complied, hands in full view.Another officer pulls up but stays in his car. First cop takes my info, came back and said:"I just want to thank you for informing me that you had a weapon on you. I lost my partner 6 months ago in Miami during a traffic stop. This is a big deal to me, so here's a warning, and again, thanks." via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kPZNhE

NAA Sidewinder - acceptable for a beginner CCW?

Looking to purchase my first CCW! I've shot the family guns, but this would be my first baby :) I'm very petite and have a hard time keeping weapons from printing, even IWB. Don't want a lot of heat, but I do need functionality, affordability & something I can keep discreetly on my person.Apparently the NAA mini revolvers can be difficult to shoot due to the size, but I'm hoping it'll be less of an issue since I have very small hands. A lot of reviews I read complained of the small grip, but they were all men with bear paws! Don't want it teaching me bad habits, either, and I've heard it's very loud and can contribute to poor trigger control.I guess what I'm trying to ask is whether a mini would be reasonably accurate with a little work for a beginner. Looking forward to putting in a lot of practice with whatever I end up getting, which IMHO is the most important part. But advice from NAA owners would be much appreciated! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jOCUgU

Amarok Tactical Wolfpack - First Impressions/Review

Hello friends!FULL DISCLOSURE: I was not paid or provided any incentive or discount to write this review. I honestly just needed a full kydex AIWB holster and didn't want to pay $100+ for a Trex Arms Sidecar. Caleb (u/AmarokTactical) from http://ift.tt/2h3xFKK has been such a great help with the whole process and I think he deserves a bit of love from the r/CCW community! He made a post a few weeks ago offering a discount for Redditors. I believe the code still works. It did when I used it. The code is REDDITFIRSTLast Friday I picked up my California CCW (yes you read that right!) and I needed a holster ASAP. I've always wanted a full kydex holster with a mag caddy, and was looking at a Trex Arms Sidecar. At the moment I have a Stealthgear AIWB for my M&P FS, and as comfy and amazing the Stealthgear is, there are some major flaws with it that I wanted addressed (lack of claw, no mag caddy at the time when I bought my SG). I was also considering the AIWB+ but with the steep price point and the flaws, I couldn't justify the purchase. When I saw the post Caleb made on this subreddit a few weeks ago, the timing couldn't have been better! I decided to pick one up and see how it felt and performed!PRICE: This is honestly one of the best priced full kydex AIWB w/ mag caddy holsters out there. With the coupon code the total price I paid for my holster was $69 including shipping. He also doesn't charge extra for carbon fiber pattern which also saves ~$5!LEAD TIME: It took me 12 days from order to delivery which is amazing! Another reason why I opted out of the Sidecar. Hopefully this thread will drive more customers to him, so that lead time might not be as quick!BUILD QUALITY: The build quality is excellent! No sharp edges or uneven bumps on the holster itself. The clips and everything are placed perfectly and the kydex is flexible but strong. The only issue I have currently with the holster is that the mag caddy isn't completely tight on the magazine, so there is some wiggle room. I have talked to Caleb about it and he was very helpful is guiding me through how to heat up and fix it myself. He also offered to fix it for me and throw in a free mag holder, but this being my only holster (besides my Remora) for my Shield, I needed it. It doesn't take away from the functionality of the caddy itself, and doesn't make the magazine stick out or get pushed out easily, but it does have a bit more play than I would have liked. However, it should be an easy fix!http://ift.tt/2kc4H9L: I think the holster looks absolutely spectacular! The carbon fiber outside with the neon green inside makes it very sleek and sexy on the outside, but also very fun and exciting on the inside.http://ift.tt/2jq7Plg: The holster performs great! Drawing and holster is smooth and consistent. Even with a one handed draw, I can get my gun out quick and efficiently. There is a nice satisfying click to the holster whenever I holster my gun, which is nice. One thing I would definitely recommend is getting 1.75" clips instead of the 1.5". The 1.5" is extremely tight and fairly difficult to get on and off a 1.5" belt. I replaced the clips with the ones I got with my Stealthgear and it works great!http://ift.tt/2kOIUE2 (Please excuse my mess of a shirt and room. Just got back from a Vegas trip and am too lazy to unpack. And yes, having my shirt all bundled up like that probably isn't safe, but I was in a rush to record the video)Concealability: Now obviously this is one of the biggest factors in buying an IWB holster, and it conceals amazingly! The way the holster is shaped is so that the holster follows the curves of your body, which makes the gun more flat with your body rather than sticking out. In addition, there is a claw that helps push the grip even further into your body, which makes the gun practically invisible. Keep in mind I'm not a small person by any means (5'7, 250lbs) and even with my gut the gun conceals very well. The only gripe I would have is the mag caddy itself. It is a bit shallow which makes the magazine stick out a bit more, but doesn't make it print or anything. Wearing anything from a tshirt I would normally wear to a tshirt that is a bit more form fitting was no problem.http://ift.tt/2kbZX3H: To be honest, I never thought a full kydex holster could be comfortable. I mean, a big piece of plastic inside of your pants doesn't sound like the most comfortable thing in the world. However, the way the holster is shaped, it curves perfectly around my belly and sits high enough so that it isn't digging into my leg or crotch when I sit down. Honestly, as much as I find my Stealthgear comfortable as hell, I prefer the feel of the kydex much more. I find that the Stealthgear, although soft and breathable, would dig into my leg and cause some lower back discomfort. If I adjusted the ride height, then it would be very difficult to conceal because of the lack of claw. With my full kydex, I can sit, stand, bend over, jump, run and do whatever I need to without any jabs into my gut or my thigh. I've only had it for a day, so I will see how it feels long term, but for the 3-4 hours I've had it on at my desk it has been comfortable. All in all, for $69 shipped in less than 2 weeks, the holster is a steal! I don't have much to compare to besides my SG, but I am definitely happy with what I got. In addition, Caleb has been a pleasure to work with and communicate with. He was more than willing to answer all of my questions and fix the small issue I had. If you are in the market for a kydex AIWB w/ mag caddy or just a full kydex holster, then definitely check Amarok Tactical out! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jq18iT

Magazine limit in Illinois & Cook County

I'm looking to pick up a Sig Sauer P320 RX, but the downside is that I live in Cook County Illinois, which limits magazine size to 10 unless overridden by city laws, such as Chicago which limits it to 15. I have family that lives just outside Cook county without these regulations and am planning to get my CCL shortly, which allegedly supersedes these regulations and defers to Illinois regulations.I have a couple questions:1) When purchasing the gun, will a dealer not sell or ship to me if I live in Cook county?2) If so, am I able to use my family's address?3) Does the CCW permit change any of this?I want the firearm registered to me and have a completely clean record; I just want to avoid any pesky local regulations preventing me from even being able to purchase it because it is sold with a larger magazine.Thank you so much in advance! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jNFDHC

Home defense options for one-handed use

My girlfriends father recently told me that he was considering getting a gun for home defense and asked me for some suggestions. Her father is a stroke victim and only has use of his right hand so he would need something easy to clean and operate without needing both hands. My initial thought was something along the lines of a 22 mag revolver but I'm admittedly not familiar with revolvers or with only having to use one hand. If anyone has any experience with this type of situation or any recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kaA4l4

Stealth Gear IWB holster collapsing...

Every time I bend over slightly, my gun grip pops out from under my shirt.

I carry a XD-9 full size (I know its a bit big but it's all I got) in an Alien Gear holster in this position. The only problem I am having is that if I bend at the waist, my gun pops from under my shirt.Admittedly, my part Italian ass made my torso long and my legs short. Is there anything I can do? My clips on the holster are located at the top on the right side, and the bottom on the left. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jnqgH3

First LE Encounter is smooth thanks to r/CCW

This weekend I had my first encounter with a LEO while carrying. I was pulled over in a small town in central WI. I had apparently rolled a stop sign. After I was asked for DL and insurance, all the previous posts here flashed in my head about how to handle the situation. I told the officer that for his safety and mine, I was licensed to CCW and I was carrying today. He seemed a bit taken back at first, then asked if I minded if he took it while we talked. I agreed. After he had removed my Shield (was thankfully in my inner coat pocket at the time, so it wasn't awkward for him to do so) he asked if I minded showing him my CCW license. After seeing that he went back to the squad, then returned with a warning for rolling the stop sign. He looked around the car as if figuring out how to return my weapon, then asked if he could place it (contained in my pocket holster) back in my coat. After that, he thanked me for letting him know about it and mentioned that most people don't say anything. I have a feeling it led to me getting just a warning instead of a ticket as the city is known for handing them out for minor incidents. It went better than I expected. Afterwards, I realized my approach was crafted 100% from stories here. So thank you all who have shared! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kH12jQ

How many rounds do you consider minimum per mag?

Been wanting to get my first pistol, and want to get the boring practical 15 round compact that everyone else gets; but now I'm being tempted to get a 1911, mostly to trick it out as eye candy. I don't want a gun just to look pretty at the range, and the 1911 has obviously earned it's place in this world as a fighting weapon but is it antiquated by it's magazine size do you suppose? I've always thought round count was the most important thing in the world when it came to pistols since the guy with the last bullet wins so the saying goes.Am I doing something I shouldn't be by letting myself get tempted by something that looks pretty? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2k7PQ08

So what am I supposed to say to the operator?

Okay, so let's say I shot the SOB that tried to rob me at gunpoint, i used my gun, shot him, and he's either dead, dying, or badly injured to where he's no threat. Great! Now I obviously got to call the police, but what the hell am I supposed to say to the operator!? I recall in my CHL class AND in this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8z7NC5sgik&t=2sThat you should never talk to the police and to just say "I wish to remain silent at this time and speak to my lawyer and/or [insert family member, friend, etc. here]." and just to repeat that until you speak with your lawyer or other guidance member. Basically, don't talk to the police to not incriminate yourself. But what the hell am I supposed to say to the operator when I just shot the robber!? If I tell the operator I just shot the guy, well now that's evidence against myself that I had to shoot him. I don't want to say I killed him because then it confirms that I used deadly force and blah, blah, blah. What am I supposed to say to the operator when I use my gun to defend myself without giving away too much information that could lead to my incrimination while also allowing the police/operator to know what's going on.Once the police arrives, what should I say? Should I say anything? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ju23Kr

Another discussion about belts

I've been carrying a Shield 9 IWB in a Stealthgear at 4 o'clock for over a year now. I've not had a gun belt this whole time. I am ready.I really leaning toward Hanks Steel Core. But, of course, I've been looking here at what other people are saying about Hanks and what other belts are being talked about or recommended. In my research, I've found:There seems to be a lot of debate on who owns the leather title, Hanks or Beltman. I'm still leaning towards Hanks. They're not much different in price. I think Hanks look better. I don't want a shiny, dressy belt. There's debate on how much of a stiffener you need: none, Kydex, or steel. I would say steel. Others seem to think that it's too much. There's quite a few people saying Völund's Atlas and Ares Aegis and Ranger belts are really good. But are they stiff enough? I like that they'd be more adjustable. I think that I'll probably end up getting a leather and a nylon belt. Like both.TL:DR - I want to buy Hanks Steel Core. Is this a bad idea? Also, do Völund Atlas or Ares Ranger belts use stiffeners or are they stiff enough on their own? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kJ7Cpq

Last night I was in a movie theater gun scare without my CC

I would like to share my experience with everyone here just so others can maybe learn from my mistakes and so that I can hear from others what I should have done differently.Last night my girlfriend and I went to see a movie accompanied by another couple. This was in a theater with reclining seats so they had to be reserved before hand. Our seats were located in the middle of the row at the bottom section of the room right down from the main walkway that leads into the theater. We make it through most of the movie and are in the last 20 minutes or so when we hear a scream come from the upper audience left section of seating. At first I didn't think much of it and just assumed that it was a kid joking around as we were watching a suspenseful movie, but I turned around to check on it anyways and noticed a group of people standing and some slight commotion going on. As more people stood up it became more difficult to see for sure what was happening and then all at once the whole room starts to run. After the fact people claimed they saw a person pull a gun, however, I don't know if that's confirmed yet. I still didn't want to stick around to take the chance. At that moment I acted immediately. I've never been in a situation like that before and always tried to prepare myself for what to do if I ever was. I knew that we were in a bad position as we were in the middle of the row and the people on the end seemed to be standing still. I noticed the row in front of us had already mostly cleared out so my first thought was to get me and my girlfriend over that row to hopefully add concealment and to get out faster. I leapt over but in doing so a person ran between me and my girlfriend breaking my grasp of her. She was partly carried away by the crowd but I was able to get her free of the horde of people and direct her to our nearest exit at the bottom by the screen. When we got outside I told her to keep running in a safe direction away from the theater. At this point I decided to go back to try and see if my friends were in need of help. I ran back and called their names a few times and looked at where we were sitting and when I didn't see them or hear them I left and called to confirm they were okay. I regrouped with my girlfriend and we left to meet up with our friends at a safe place.Looking back I know it was stupid to go back in but I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if something happened to them and I left them. I would love some feedback from everyone here as to what they think I should have done differently. There were some things that surprised me that I would like to add. First thing I thought of after was that even though I didn't have my CC on me I noticed I wouldn't have been able to do much with it had the person actually had a gun and started shooting. I still would have liked to have it with me though just in case. Also the biggest surprise to me was how people just stopped running once they made it out of the theater. It was pandemonium in that room as people thought they were about to be shot but then stopped once they made it out. I actually had to tell a girl to run when I went back because she asked me what to do.Sorry for rambling. I'm glad I can share this with the people of this community and I'm looking forward to what you have to say. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kIhek4

Volund Atlas Cobra vs G-hook

So it's time for a new belt. I've been reading lots of reviews, searching this subreddit, etc and have finally decided to get a Volund Atlas belt for EDC (IWB, XD subcompact .40 in Stealthgear Onyx holster). First Encounter With Law Enforcement Officer

Today started as a pretty relaxed day, a couple Netflix documentaries and some venison chili from the night before. As dinner rolled around I decided I'd go grab some Chinese take out. I live in a pretty small farm town in Michigan so the drive was about 20 minutes or so. I called and placed an order on the way. As I left the house there were some light snow flurries (nothing major or unusual here in Michigan) I picked up my Chinese and decided since I had all ready made the drive into the nearest "city" I'd stop and pick up some groceries. When I got to the store there was a thin layer of fresh snow on the ground (again nothing unusual). As I left the store maybe a half hour or so after arriving the roads had turned into a sheet of ice presumably from warm temperatures this last week and fresh snow at night fall as temperatures dropped. So I headed home with caution. Just about a half mile from home a car infront of me was turning left. As they started the turn I noticed they had some pretty good under-steer (when you turn the wheel but the car goes straight do to a lack of traction) and were not going to make the turn. The car jumped a curb and struck a tree. I pulled into the next driveway and told my family to call 911. I ran through the lawn of the house I pulled into and immediately checked the condition of the driver and her daughter. By the grace of God they were both fine just a little shaken up. I informed them that there was help on the way and we'd get them pulled out so just sit tight. After about 10 minutes the sheriffs department showed up. The officer exited his vehicle I was sure to keep my hands out of my pockets and clearly visible. He asked "Is everyone ok?" I said "They're fine just a little shaken, I do want to tell you I am licensed to carry and am currently carrying." He said and I quote "Ok" he then walked over to their vehicle and checked on them. He asked if they would like to file a report for insurance purposes. They did he then held traffic as I pulled them out and sent them on their way. He thanked me for the help as it kept him from waiting on a wrecker and holding traffic longer.TL;DR: Stopped to help someone in a car accident, police arrived, I informed him I was carrying and he said "Ok"The goods: I was carrying a Glock 43 at about 4 O'clock with Winchester Defend 147gr in the pipe snuggled up in a Sticky Holster MD-4Edit: Spelling and grammar via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jrzDRb

Anyone use Heinies or Warren tactical straight 8 sights?

Im thinking about getting some accuracy focused sights on my G19 mostly for plinking but I also want to feel confident when ccing hitting accurate shots around 15-25 yards.I've heard the Heinies slant pro's are precise. But can you do a one handed manipulation with the slant? I know they have a ledge but I'd prefer less dead space when looking down the sights. Anyone have the ledge vs slant? Can anyone recommend the Warren tactical over the heinies? I have not seen many videos on them. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kGrpde
