Incentive for states to pass more permits.

When applying for a permit you have to pay the fee's when you file the paperwork. To make it an incentive for states to pass your permit make the filing fee small then the second half of the fee when you pass the permit process. If you don't pass make you only paid for the filing. This way the state gets more money the more they pass ccw permits creating a safer community as well as receiving money. Is there something I am missing on why this would not work other than a state saying no we want the whole fee up front wether you pass or fail.Let me know your thoughts. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3ms7oDc

Home defense and self defense

So, my husband and I would own a gun except that we are both mentally ill. I don't think I can be sold a gun, my husband probably could but we both get suicidal sometimes so we have decided never to own one. What are other options for self defense in a purse, and for the home?

My husband has some bat by Cold Steel that is good for self defense, and we have a baton, but I don't know if I'm strong enough to effectively use blunt weapons. I realized it's ridiculous for me not to own my own self defense items, so I ordered a keychain pepper spray, a small stun gun for my purse and a larger one with anti-grab bars for the home. I also found a stun gun with a wrist strap that deactivates the device if it's removed, so the device can't be taken from you and used on you. However I don't know if this device is as strong as the other small one I ordered since the power is not measured the same way and some reviewers said it is not very painful, but it is like the only small purse-sized one on Amazon that has the deactivating wrist strap. I didn't order it though. Are stun guns stupid to own?

Maybe this is weird, but I also ordered a small wakizashi sword for home defense that I want to learn how to use. Now I know one could commit suicide with a sword, so maybe you're wondering why I bought it after my earlier expressed concerns about a gun, but I don't have the same fear of a sword with that issue compared to a gun for personal reasons I won't go into. Small one handed swords for home defense, yea or nay?

Can anyone point to me where I could find out what states allow the caring of a sword cane?

Sorry if I post in the wrong sub but I didn't know where to ask since you guys know your stuff. I am in the process of buying a sword cane not to look cool, but I do need a cane for walking and I thought it would be cool to get a sword cane. It's a cane that when you unscrew or pop it out a sword comes out from the middle for defense. Are they illegal in certain States? I'm trying to figure out if it's illegal or legal to carry one in the state that I live in. Does having a CCW and some way allowing me to carry a sword cane with me? Thank you for any information or help. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3fR10Tw

A Moderate's Argument Against Gun Permits

It's a grave mistake to license the right to own, purchase, or carry guns.In r/CCW, I may be preaching to the choir. But if any moderates are lurking, I want you to understand why a reasonable person would hold this extreme view.To the credit of gun-grabbers, gun are dangerous. Guns make dangerous people more dangerous. Without proper training, even a good person with a gun could be more harmful than helpful. Why not license guns like cars? To obtain my drivers license, I had to spend two-weeks in a classroom, two weeks inside a car with an instructor, & pass two tests at the DMV. I haven't injured anyone to date, so the system works. Right?Wrong. If the right to bear arms existed only to defend against muggers & burglars, I would agree. License the whole process, from purchase to carry. But the constitutionally-affirmed natural right to self-defense isn't for the sake of securing your home from burglars. It's for securing liberty from tyrants. In this light, the drivers license argument falls apart. It's a question of incentives.Government has every incentive to train drivers; that's why most high-schools have a drivers ed program. Driving supports the economy, which supports the tax-man, by making citizens more productive & better able to spend money. But the government -- all governments -- are disincentivized from issuing gun permits. Guns check the power of the State & empower the People. No tyrant has ever increased the number of civilian-owned firearms. In fact, I'd wager that every tyrant has decreased that number as much as they could."Okay. But America is a functioning democracy. Can't we trust our government to exercise SOME reasonable discretion over who gets to own a murder-cannon?"In the long-run, incentives always win. To grant government the power to regulate a fundamental right is to slowly kill that right. That's why Voter-IQ tests are an awful idea; eventually, entrenched interests will abuse that power & disenfranchise the population.Requiring a permit to own a gun is as short-sighted as requiring a permit to vote, speak, or obtain legal counsel.Yes, there are short-term benefits to licensing ALL of the above -- imagine if we could have simply banned OJ Simpson from hiring a lawyer! But do you want your children inheriting a country with no respect for its own Bill Of Rights? What good is a system of inter-governmental checks-and-balances if we have no checks on the balance of power between our government & the population itself? Most humans don't have human rights. Most countries are despotic hellholes; some, like North Korea, are hard-tyranny. Some, like Malaysia, are soft-tyranny. Some, like China, are hellbent on exporting their tyranny worldwide.Liberty is a rare & fragile flower, that withers without constant vigilance. That's why in Mexico, although the right to own arms in affirmed in the Mexican constitution, only one store in the entire country is allowed to sell guns. (There's a documentary called 'Narcos' about the violence-free paradise ushered in by Mexican gun-control laws.)Canada is on the same path, as they effectively banned rifles this year. Sure, Canada seems like a friendly, free country (if you can just forget that pesky absence-of-a-constitutional-protection-for-free-speech problem). But the phrase "it can't happen here" has a poor track record. The next time you consider regulating the right to own or carry firearms, ask yourself: would I treat the right to vote with as much contempt & suspicion as I treat the right to keep & bear arms? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/37io8qq

S&W SD9 VE recoil question

I have been ccwing with a tiny ruger 380 for years. I finally went to the range today (first time) and now I am sure I don’t want to carry what I have anymore. I tried the m&p 9 shield ez, glock 43 and could not handle the recoil at all (on both). Then I tried the Glock 34 and had a lot of fun. I’m a small female, so I understand there are going to be some issues with me concealing anything that big. Has anyone ever fired anything above and the S&W SD9VE who can comment on how similar the recoil is? Or have a better suggestion for something I might be able to handle (like, confidently hold on to) while concealing. The guy shooting the rifle next to me made me want to find a way to hide that under my clothes. So quiet and seemingly painless 😬 via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2VhOlQg

Just a PSA

Mods: I hope I am allowed to post this, as I am not sure if this fell under the rules and guidelines of this group.I was browsing the interwebs after eating some dinner and this newsflash bulletin hovered in the bottom of my screen, low and behold; the following link was provided:https://ift.tt/2VewqK2 read through the whole jargon and found some alarming information, especially when it said, "Today, we're looking at the 100% LEGAL loophole that allows ALL American citizens to qualify for their concealed carry permit online… and why ALL Americans should qualify for their CCW before this right is taken away...No waiting period, no gun range, and no need to leave your home. The entire process can be completed online in under half-an-hour.You Can Protect Yourself and Your Family Wherever You Go with a Concealed Carry Permit - Start The Qualification Process For Free Online."For giggling and shitting, I clicked on my state, Illinois, and proceeded to then answer a few basic generic questions much like how we would here if applying for our FOID - and boom, I was deemed approved and ready to get certified online.---------------------This is a huge red flag especially since no one but ISP here can allow you to get your Concealed Carry License, period, obviously if you work as an LEO or of similar capacity, sure - but to the average civilian, you cannot. Nothing online, you must complete (here in IL) 16 hours of class which included range time for new CCL applicants, and 8 or 3 hours (can't remember this one) for renewals.I'm sure most people would have half a brain to understand this and I am not sure if this topic/issue was ever brought up in the past. Just wanted to bring it up if it wasn't.Stay safe. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3qf5fwW

CCW and Motorcycle Riding

Hi there,Been carrying for several years now. P365 OWB. Love it, the p365 can virtually disappear OWB and it’s super comfortable.I recently started riding motorcycles (2020 HD low rider s, if you are interested). I have a concern I was wondering if the community could provide some guidance. I’m trying to work through carry positions. I think any carry could pose issues on the bike. Appendix is super uncomfortable due to the angle of the seated position. OWB seems unrealistic as I wear a heavy leather jacket and several layers. Getting to the firearm quickly would be an issue. I’m comfortable with pocket carry and I think that may be the way to go. Are there pros/cons to ankle carry?Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2VhCPnS

Holster for wife

So my wife has just recently gotten her first firearm, Springfield XD-S Mod 2 (with a red dot sight) She wants to get her CCW permit, so i was looking to get her some sort of holster as a christmas gift. I had been mostly looking at different pairs of leggings that are specifically for ccw, they're a little on the expensive side so if i go that route i just want to make sure im getting a good product that shell be happy with. karate against wrestling?

I have tons of experience in punching & kicking martial arts. But none in grappling. I understand this means that if I ever get into a fight with someone who knows jujitsu or wrestling then I'll probably get destroyed. Curious if anyone has self defense tips if I were to ever get into that situation, to make the best out of it and maybe not get destroyed as badly. I know "keep your distance" and "don't let your feet leave the ground". Of course I could also learn some grappling.

TIFU by shooting without ear protection and for a couple hours everyone sounded like John Lennon.

I got to my outdoor range which is about an hour from where I live, and upon rolling up I noticed I forgot my ear protection at home. I stupidly decided all I needed to do was cut up a mask and make little ear plugs out of it. What was the result of this after only 10 rounds?I immediately experienced what is known as diplacusis. Everything sounded slightly de-tuned and layered. It’s hard to explain, but the closest thing I can think of is John Lennon’s voice circa Magical Mystery Tour. Music was terrifying, voices were terrifying.Fortunately it went away but I definitely learned my lesson. Never again. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2VqLfJX

Currently I regularly edc 3 sub $100 holster that work just fine, one in particular is actually very comfortable for me. None are married rigs and sure I understand why a married rig is more expensive. I will even say this, based on what I've read about how much r&d goes into say the t1 axis elite, the price tag seems fair. That said. In terms of comfortable, concealibility, and all the other things that you want a good holster to provide, do you guys think its worth it over a holster I know works for me? If you could only own one handgun, what would it be?

I'm looking forward to buying a handgun once I receive my carry permit--I've taken the class twice now in the past 10 years, but only now bothered to submit an application, since I didn't own/didn't feel I could afford or safely store a handgun the first time. I've bought (with a permit to purchase), owned, and sold a 1911, which I loved, but obviously it wasn't a good CCW. I've shot a good number/variety of handguns (courtesy of friends and rentals) and the only thing I've found I'm picky about is having a decently short, crisp trigger pull. Priorities for my next purchase are absolute reliability, weather resistance, and relatively light weight, since I spend a good amount of time fishing, camping, and generally bumming around the woods alone or with my dogs.I guess my question is this: what's the smallest gun you enjoy shooting at the range/would use for nightstand (or sleeping bag-side) duty, or from a different perspective, what's the largest gun you'd feel comfortable concealing with light summer clothing? I have a feeling the consensus will be a Glock 19 (or 48?), which is the way I'm leaning, but it's always interesting to hear other opinions/experiences! I definitely shoot autos better than revolvers, and can't stand double action trigger pulls. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3lflW7R
