This is a general question for the sub - Were you taught modified firearms safety rules for conduct while carrying? The NRA lists the big three rules as:Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction. (see below)Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. (Training)Always keep it unloaded until ready to use. (storage)Most lists have "Always treat the gun as if it was loaded" and I'm surprised that NRA has left that explicit statement off their list. However, it's implied in several statements.Out of necessity, we break rule 1 every time we put on a holster - Any carry position places the muzzle against or near a part of your body or pointing at bystanders as we move and bend. There will always be risk to yourself and to others when you draw under stress. For example, even with the extremely low chance of AD/ND using proper techniques and holsters, my personal choice is to avoid appendix carry (ND could easily be fatal) and shoulder carry (sweeps others too much). Again, this is a personal choice as I cannot relax enough to look natural when carrying in either position. For the record, I pocket carry because I cannot afford a reveal or print while at bending/reaching at work. It's far from perfect, but presents acceptable risk to me.In the service, my unit and the range drilled additional safety measures for safe conduct while peacetime carrying (I was a courier at times) as opposed to the usual training for base defense, etc. My instructor for the Texas CHL class covered practical aspects of concealed carry, but that much detail wasn't required by the state's course requirements. A seminar or two also covered the subject for a portion of the time dedicated to carry subjects.I was wondering if your training included modifications to the safety rules and what those new rules were? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2F3Xo01
