Ohio - CHL question

Hey Ohio CCW residents. I’m traveling from NY to Ohio next weekend for a family party and had intended to bring my CCW with me. However, I just found out the party is at a public park, not the family members house as I had thought. So, I have a question on the Ohio Revised Code Section 2923.12.The park’s website says:Firearms of any nature are illegal on the premises as per Ohio Revised Code Section 2923.12 and the following sections. [township] has endorsed the State Code by Resolution and any infraction thereof will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. When I look up the code it states:(A) No person shall knowingly carry or have, concealed on the person's person or concealed ready at hand, any of the following:(1) A deadly weapon other than a handgun;(2) A handgun other than a dangerous ordnance;(3) A dangerous ordnance.I understand the park says “no firearms,” and references the code.... but the state code makes it sound like handguns are excluded? Are those with a CHL permit excluded? Or does no mean no? Not a huge deal if I can’t bring it on the trip. Any info from Ohioans would be appreciatedAnd yes I know concealed means concealed.... that’s not what I’m askingO-H via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3uBv0IP

Leaving gun in car

My work doesn't allow me to carry (hospital). But I can keep the gun locked in my car in the parking lot. I purchased a designated handgun safe that goes under the driver's seat and is bolted to the frame. This may be a dumb question....but have any of you ever had any issues with your gun getting to hot to the point of causing problems. My intent was to take off the holster and place the entire unit in the safe when I get to work to avoid unholstering the gun unnecessarily. Currently I keep my p365 in a concealment express kydex holster. I live in Minnesota so most days aren't very hot but summer can get pretty toast for a while. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3fD3o1Z

Good Targets for Drills?

I recently picked up some of Joe Farewell's targets from Legion Targets. Here's a video with him demoing them (https://youtu.be/atYubnE0gds). They require 100 rounds and I found it to be a fun way to practice a bunch of different skills at different distances. Are there other similar targets that anyone recommends? Looking for something that's 50-200 rounds, that I can set up at the range and run through for a good practice session. Dot Torture is another one that comes to mind. Some quick googling turned up the Essentials Shooting Target from REfactor. It looks to be fairly similar. https://ift.tt/2TxwR4P via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3p9V0tH

Should I get a backup carry gun? Only have one firearm right now

As the title says, would it be a good idea to buy another carry gun? Never crossed my mind that something could happen to my current carry piece. Could malfunction and need to be sent in, could get stolen, could end up getting taken for evidence if I ever actually did need to draw/use it. I guess I kinda made my own mind up while writing this hahaha. New carry gun it is! Have a p365 with an xl grip rn. Thinking of the hellcat or shield plus. Had a shield 2.0 and loved it. Gotta get to the range and try some new ones out. My wallet is gunna hate me. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3vDHlxL

New production .32? Tomcat Vs Seecamp

Hi,I've been carrying multiple .380 and 9mm handguns over the last eight months but id like to get a .32 for discrete carry. Is the new Beretta Tomcat with the threaded barrel an upgrade over the Seecamp? these seem to be the most available .32s but I am open to other options.I am going with .32 because I want to have faster follow up shots then with a small .38 like a 640 (which i have experience with). via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3vDnb73

I'm about to start concealed carrying in July. I have a Ruger American .45 already but I'm thinking about buying a S&W M&P Shield 9mm for my carry gun since it's smaller. Should I buy that (or another pistol) or stick with the Ruger?

Thanks for any advice!I'm 22, M, 6'2, and 255 lbs if it matters. And I'll be carrying 2-5:00 IWB. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3fSwv04

MyMedic opinions

Mymedic is having a sale. And since i dont carry first-aid save for a SOF-TT, I figured i should start there. I ordered 2 Bleed Stopper packs(was $74.95 but sale for $37.48). I also orderd their basic "MyFAC", originally $120 but now $90. My goal is to be prepared for trauma and injuries during camping/hiking(burns, cuts, and blisters) for me and/or quite possibly my wife, which means i will remove what i dont think will support that and eventually add what i think would. I hear that MyMedic is usually over priced, but for $90 is the MyFAC a good base to build off of or should i still build from scratch? Also has anyone purchased from them before? Do/did you like the products?MyFAC link via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3vHzK11

Sup dudes. I have this M&P Shield that has an integrated CT laser on the lower of the handgun. Its great and all. Problem is I can't find a CCW holster that will fit the shape of this gun. Do any of you know where I can find one that has this shape? Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless.

A man ran up on me (I’m a 21yr old F) while I was washing my car. He pushed me and stole my car with my phone, wallet, meds, etc. I froze up and felt helpless and never want to feel like that again. Any self Defence advice please?

Do the CCW gurus know where I can find a Light-bearing appendix holster for a Canik Elite Combat with a TLR-1?

Howdy r/ccw,Like I said in my title, I recently picked up a Canik Elite Combat and I absolutely adore the gun. I have a TLR-1 HL on the way and would very much like a light bearing appendix holster for the gun that I don't have to wait two months for like with T1C or JM Custom Kydex. Can y'all direct me to anyone that I may be missing? Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3wMDLl6

Downsize from Glock 43? New holster?

Hi,I currently have a Glock 43 but I'm still finding it to be quite bulky and annoying to carry. I'm often printing while wearing t-shirts and it's sometimes uncomfortable to the point I don't want to carry it. Maybe it could be my holster though? I usually carry at 4 o'clock and with my current holster, front IWB is unbearable. Does anybody have a G43 holster recommendation or a recommendation for a ccw gun slightly smaller? This is my current holster: https://ift.tt/3uwI9mE via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3vPQ6EI

what is the length of time to drop a bad habit, and relearn good form. every time, I think I've got my holster draw stroke down, I learned that the shoulder not move and only the arm should be moving. when you are dropping your hand to the holster nor pulling it out of the holster. someone told me like you'll have it together in like 35 practice runs. Pocket Carry a Hellcat?

My EDC handgun is a S&W 442 J-frame .38 special revolver in a leather pocket holster — in other words, the same basic approach that many folks carrying in the 1960s would have adopted. There are obvious plusses and minuses to this carry option and we’ll leave that for another day. Well, not before I say that this is a solid carry option for many situations, but not others. I understand and appreciate that.Recently I’ve been thinking about the Springfield Hellcat. Took a quick look at one yesterday at a gun store and I’m impressed. It’s like have a tiny little Browning Hi-Power. Magic. In order for this to be a ready carry option for me, I would want to pocket carry. Basically, grab gun in holster and go. Does anyone here pocket carry the Hellcat and if so, what are your impressions? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3fz7Gao

Son, let's talk about Grip Sleeves

(Some satire here, keep your britches on) So, you're new to the gun world and don't quite like the jarring feel of the textured polymer of a Glock pistol as it tears at thin epidermis lining your freshly moisturized hands during recoil. I get it. My hands are softer that a babe's behind after a fresh diaper change! But...Grip sleeves are absolutely lethal, guys. I know they seem like a good idea, but in practicality they can get people killed- mainly in relation to the magazine release. I have seen mag releases, especially EXTENDED mag releases, become unintentionally either pressed or difficult-to-press after your gun condom slides up over it- making mags fall out on their own, or forcing you to use a lot more effort to "press" through your Glock tire in order to eject a magazine.I've coined this term, the "Flacid Effect," similar to when... well, you know, and your rubber falls off since you realize that the alcohol's wearing off and your girls lack of teeth is actually quite disturbing. Same thing happens with grips sleeves, except instead of the metaphorical grip shrinking, it shifts due to being drawn repetitively- big no-no if you're getting in a defensive scenario.I'm not telling you they're gimmicky and will get you killed, butttt they're a gimmick and potentially could get you killed. Just raw dog your Glock and don't be afraid to get a little carpetburn during the ride- it's better then blowing your loadout before you're even able to get shots off.Oh, and if you have one to "change the grip angle," you're holding your pistol wrong and need some training, no offense intended. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/34wRgJt

New To This And Failing Bad...

So I got my LTC in Texas a couple of weeks ago and while I'm new to CCW, I'm not new to guns. I have a huge collection of handguns (way more than I'm willing to admit). And while I've always had a couple of favorite "house guns" or "range guns" I'm having trouble carrying one and I'm at a loss as to why.My current experiment is a Glock 19 Gen 5 in an Alien Gear Shapeshift 4 IWB. I paired the holster with a NextBelt an influencer I follow had a code. I'm a bigger dude and by bigger I mean my belt size is about 44 or 46 depending how pants are cut by designer.I find I'm struggling to keep the gun from dragging my draw hand side of my pants down to my knees. The only viable solution seems to be to tie the belt as tight as it can go till it's just about to choke off my lower intestine. That works fine and all. But walking kinda stinks this way because it cinches up so tight it looks my jeans have a pleat in the front.I've tried my Glock 43 and a cheap holster I grabbed at my range just for laughs and the situation is more or less the same. Belts gotta be so tight its cutting off my blood supply. I looked at video ALienGear did with one of their CSRs who is WAAAAAAAY larger than me and he seemed to have no issues. So I'm about 90% sure it's something I'm doing wrong. Any/all suggestions are welcome. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3p6j8xx

Don't tell anyone that you carry

I heard this a few times before I started carrying, and I thought people were a little paranoid. Don't even tell your close family members or your gun owner friends? I thought "oh they get it, it won't be a problem", but I was wrong. In the past few months, there have been three separate times one of those gun owning friends/family members have asked me not to carry somewhere. Whether I do or not is still up to me, because concealed is concealed, but it wouldn't even be a concern if I hadn't blabbed about it.Just hoping another new CCW holder will read this and be a little more discreet with who they let know. From now on I'm just going to keep my mouth shut, even around other gun owners who carry. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3wKWqha

Best male groin protection

Hello

I m not a fighter. I go to concerts and love heavy metal where there are lots of troublemakers. I have been thinking about protecting my groin just in case someone looks for trouble with me or my wife. What can you recommend? I would be willing to spend up to $150 if it’s warranted. Another question related to that. I do watch MMA competition on TV sometimes and have seen lots of fighters get hit down there and the fight has to be stopped temporarily or completely as the guy can’t go on. How come the cup does not protect them?

Thanks a lot

Is Open Carry Better Than No Carry?

Sorry if this isnt quite the right place to post, so please remove if so.Where I live (Rural Colorado), I cant get my CCW until I turn 21, and I'm 20 now. I can, however, open carry. Is carrying openly worse than just waiting until I can get my permit? My CCW permit expired on 5/28. All renewals are being done by mail in CT, and I submitted my renewal paperwork on 3/28. We have a long grace period for renewal, but I don't know if this grace period is only to allow me to renew, or if it allows me to legally carry. Soon taking Self-Defense Classes, but...

I have health issues: painful arthritic hips, sometimes dizziness, and some other issues. Do they generally accommodate people with issues (nothing contagious). Do they have modified methods generally for people who can’t do certain moves? I have low calcium too (working on it) though I’ve never broken a bone my entire life so I don’t think my bones are brittle.

Also a little scared of the classes themselves. I don’t pick up on movements they would show me quickly (as demonstrated when I try to follow along on an exercise/dance video), and I don’t move quickly either. Do they make everyone act out the moves? Or can I just watch and practice at home so I don’t embarrass myself?

I need in-person professional guidance, not online videos. I’ve watched plenty of those.

I do have a weapon for safety, but I’d like to know how to defend myself without anything.

Brandish pepper spray or catch by surprise?

What do you think would be better? If I warn the attacker and show I have the spray, will that just piss them off more or prompt then to test if I will use it? I can just catch them by surprise if I feel threatened enough but I could have had a chance to potentially scare them off with brandishing. I’m referring to a potential attacker attempting to get in my personal space/hurling threats rather then them in the act of physically attacking me. Please let me know what would be better.

Four years ago, I had to draw my weapon on someone...and I still get panic attacks about it to this day

Heads up in advance, I was not charged with any crime during this incident and the officers simply took my information down after arresting the subject. The statute of limitations on any crime I could have potentailly committed have expired, thus I feel justified in posting tihs thread to assist others who may encounter a similar scenario. Again, I was cleared of any wrongdoing and allowed to leave immediately after I gave the police officers my carry permit, and my license, while keeping my hands in the air, or on the porch railing in front of me, after I informed them that I had a firearm in my right pocket. I made sure to ask them if it was OK to reach into my left pocket to get my drivers license and CCW permit before making any moves. I did not want to get shot by the police.I was out with my girlfriend at the time at a sports bar and we had grabbed some wings. I had my weapon on me. A random male came inside the restaurant, sat down at the bar, and said there was a "crazy man" outside who had followed him from another location to this location we were at. He stated he was a bouncer at a club nearby, and he had kicked the individual out of that club, and after he got off of work, the guy had followed him to the location where me and my girlfriend were at.After he stated this, we started hearing yelling from outside, and then heard things hitting the walls and windows. The individual was throwing rocks at the building. In a moment of what I consider stupidity, thinking back on this incident, the manager of the restaurant went outside to try to calm the guy down. The dude picked up an orange parking cone and smacked her in the head with it, leaving her with a cut above the bridge of her nose, of which she still has a scar today from this incident after receiving numerous stitches. After that happened, and she came back inside with her face bleeding, the "bouncer" from the other location went outside to try to confront the individual. At this time, the individual picked up a huge wooden stake (as seen in one of pictures below) and started to approach the "bouncer". This is when I first drew my weapon and told him to stop, or he was going to be shot. He actually stopped like a deer blinded by headlights, and the "bouncer" came back inside. The individual walked away, and I reholstered my weapon. At this time, I took out my phone, and tried to zoom in and take photos of the individual, and then started taking a video recording. I did not even know this recording existed until a year after this incident happened.I apparently was recording as the individual came back up and threw a brick towards me and other patrons at the restaurant, and I'm not talking about a normal brick, it was a huge damn stone, as you can see in one of the pics. As he was approaching back towards us with a large brick/stone in his hand, I informed him with some harsh language that he was going to get shot if he didn't back off. He ended up throwing the brick at us,but I was planted around a corner, so I just backed up so brick didn't hit me, or anyone else. He then said he was going to walk around and enter the back of the building. I told everyone to get inside.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3Le6wsQAzcI do NOT remember why I kept telling him to "put the weapon down". I never was trained to call a brick a "weapon", but for some reason, I used that language. In the video, you can hear the individual refer to someone as a "fag" and he says "you suck dick". My girlfriend at the time told me that he kept saying "your mom is a whore", and I just kept calmly telling him "OK man, calm down". I do not remember this part at all. Here are some pictures showing the parking cone, the brick, and the huge wooden stake that he was carrying. The police and DA did not file charges against me. I considered this large wooden stake a deadly weapon when I decided to draw. Would you have done the same thing?Parking cone that he hit the manager in the face with:https://ift.tt/3yNnhL4 stake he picked up and was about to smack the "bouncer" in the back of the head with, which is when I drew my weapon:https://ift.tt/3fDb0BH he threw at us, as you can hear in the video. You can audibly hear it land, and the manager in the background states "he just threw a brick at us":https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635329714600542218/848334215107837962/IMG_1132_2.JPGThis is not an attempt to brag. I am not showboating. This incident still haunts me to this day. I'm very lucky that I did not have to potentially take the life of another human being. I am, howver, curious on the thoughts that others here may have. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3fyijdO
