TL:DR Just want enough training to get away and get to my gun.
A few situations in 2020 made me realize the importance of self defense. It also made me question my ability to protect my family if needed.
I'm 46 years old, 5'9", 165 lbs. I'm fit and exercise regularly as well as spend a good amount of time working outside. I've never trained though. I'm pretty assertive and have always talked myself out of situations, but what if...?
Some changes we made at home are a security system and security evaluation of our home. I applied for my CCW and started training more at the range.
I have 3 teenage boys and a 12 year old daughter. They are going to start jujitsu at a friend's gym who is a world champion black belt. He competes and his gym is all about competing, testing yourself, and getting better. There is some MMA training at his gym available, but the focus is jujitsu.
I don't want to compete. I think it's good and a great way to test yourself but it takes a lot of time. Great for my kids, not so much for me.
Where do I start? I want to learn more about situational awareness and enough self defence to get away and get to my gun. Perfecting a jab, cross, body shot would be nice. Knowing how to get away if someone gets a hold of me is really all I want.
Any suggestions?
