Glock 19 backup gun

I have a Glock 19 currently that I can carry relatively comfortably either appendix or at 4 o clock. I’m looking to get a 2nd handgun to carry for either short trips when I don’t feel like throwing on the holster and 19 or for when my clothing won’t allow a Larger gun.Currently I’m trying to decide between either a subcompact (G43, sig p365, Walther pps m2, SW shield), a snubby (LCR) or a pocket pistol (LCPII). With the subcompacts I would most likely carry with an IWB all kydex holster, with the LCR I would carry either in my front pocket or in an IWB holster. And with the LCP I would be able to easily carry it in my front pocket anywhere and everywhere and be completely comfortable.I would be carrying my 19 the majority of the time. I took 1-on-1 defensive pistol training a few weeks ago. Here are my main take aways.

TL:DR; Take some lessons. It'll help identify and eliminate bad habits.Quick background on me so you know where I'm coming from:I shot .22's very occasionally as a kid, but didn't grow up with guns in the house or shooting regularly.Shot my friend's handguns a few times in grad school. (In Texas of course.)I didn't take up shooting again until 2016.Received my Ohio CHL (aka CCW) in January 2017.I've taken 4 small group defensive pistol classes with a couple different instructors since then.I'm a civilian and I conceal carry in public when and where I can. It's a felony to carry at my place of employment, which sucks. But there's no way I'm jeopardizing my main source of income, no matter how much I think the law prohibiting campus carry is wrong.A couple months ago I decided that I was probably in a rut with my regular range drills. So I reached out to an instructor I had taken group classes with last summer to ask if he ran 1-on-1 sessions.I met up with him on a weekday morning a few weeks ago at his private range. Basically his back 20, set up with berms and target stands and cover areas.We started with fundamentals: grip, stance, drawing from concealment, etc. He pretty quickly identified some issues, such as:I carry appendix. For some reason, while I was pulling up my garment, my support hand was flying off into space instead of trapping my shirt and getting ready to form my grip.The elbow of my strong hand was winging out during my draw.I was also occasionally flagging my support hand while forming up my grip prior to driving the gun out.After that it was on to live fire. Working from ~ 15 feet, he had me draw, drive out, fire a round, go back to ready, then reholster. He used a shot timer and I was firing at a standard IDPA silhouette. What did we discover then?I was wavering the pistol up and down slightly while driving the gun out, which was making it difficult for me to pick up the front sight and slowing my shot on target speed.I have a tendency to leave the gun hanging out at full extension after firing. This would not be smart when you're engaged in a DGU.So we worked on correcting those bad habits. I definitely improved, but like any skill it's going to require practice to maintain the improvements.It's been a few weeks since that session so I'm definitely not remembering every detail, but here are some more highlights:I am actually pretty efficient at dropping and swapping magazines - I practice that a lot - but that's probably not so important given the average number of shots fired in a typical DGU. It's a great skill to have when fighting off the zombie hordes. But it's probably not going to be a deciding factor if I'm forced to draw and fire in a real encounter.Stress will mess with your overlearned behaviors, so imagine what it does to your rarely-practiced actions. Lesson learned: practice all aspects of defensive gun use. Make sure you know how different garments will react to being yanked up. Find potential failure scenarios for your belt and holster, and train to overcome them. Be prepared to react instinctively if your gun doesn't go bang when it should. Embed "tap-and-rack" deeply in your brain and muscles. It might even be a good idea to put some range time in with with your least-reliable semi-auto, so you can practice recovering from malfunctions.The rest of the training session was devoted to more advanced drills. I did OK, but as expected when my instructor put me under any pressure or changed things up, I tended to revert to earlier bad habits. This is known as reversion under stress (I'm a psychologist). The only thing that alleviates it is more practice and training.All in all, I'm very glad I took the 3 hours to train 1-on-1 with a good instructor. It helped me identify and work on eliminating accumulated bad habits, and it gave me more confidence in my ability to handle a firearm in a defensive situation.EDIT: For those who are interested, here's my equipment list:CZ P07 Gen 2Vedder LigthTuck appendix holster with claw. Connecticut Temporary 60 Day Permit

Hello. I just finished my 8 hr course and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with how long it takes for the local police department (Bristol) to issue the temporary state permit? I live in an open carry state and would like to carry OWB but want a locking holster since I’ve got curious youngsters running afoot and although they’ve had training/lectures, I’d rather be safe than sorry. Booted From Church

I CC nearly everywhere I go when I leave the house, which hasn't caused any issues in the two or so years I have been doing it....until this morning.I was visiting my parents' church as I have done 5-6 times over that time and today, after offering my sister a jacket my father suddenly ended the conversation and walked away looking pissed. I started walking towards a line for potluck when my sister walked up to me and warned me that indeed my father was pissed and would likely talk to me about the gun. I notified her that is fine and that if he wishes to talk to me he can easily find me.Fast forward nearly ten minutes and sure enough, as I am grabbing food and about half way through the line he simply says. "This church's policy is no firearms allowed so you need to go lock it in your car." I simply replied with, "that is fine, but in the middle of the food line is not the place to talk about it, let me set down my food."Fast forward another ten minutes or so and he makes it through the line, sits down a couple seats down from me and begins eating. I had finished my food so I turned to him and asked if he would like to step out and have a conversation about it, to which he replied only with, "I have nothing more to say and I should call the cops." I then turned to the rest of the table, two members of whom were pastors and excused myself, hopped on my motorcycle, and returned home.Advice? Suggestions on how I could have handled this differently? I love my dad but ee have many differences religiously and politically. Did not carry in Los Angeles

I decided not to carry today. I was going to a large event in Los Angeles today. This is an open door, outside event with lots and lots of people. Had this been anywhere else, I would carry. My CA CCW permit is valid statewide including LA, of course. However, this time it came down to statistics.Am I more likely to encounter the need to use my weapon or more likely to be faced with an over-aggressive LAPD cop who's uneducated on CCW laws? That department doesn't condone nor educate its officers on these matters, to the best of my knowledge and experience. The one unknown was what kind of security there would be at the event. I have in the past been surprised by metal detectors in unexpected places.I have a safe in the car but I'm not a fan of using that option.If you live around Los Angeles and have a CCW permit, I'd love to hear your feedback. IWB vs OWB Carry Use Cases

I've been carrying a g26 for about two years now with the flush 10 round mag in an alien gear cloak tuck 3.0 at 4 o'clock and I pair that with a 15 round Glock 17 mag sideways at the 11 o'clock position (thanks Colorado mag limits).Recently moved to a bit of a sketchy neighborhood to say the least so I've been carrying more often and picked up a few holster options to try out from bravo concealment to give me options to carry in all conditions.With that said, I'm trying to figure out some use cases to determine which holsters I should keep and which to return before the 30 day test drive runs out.I have a OWB g17 holster with a tlr-1 hl for around the house and I figured I could also use that during winter months.I have the OWB and IWB holsters for my g26 and this is where I'm deciding if I should keep the OWB for this guy. The IWB seems very comfortable so far, much smaller footprint on my back than the alien gear, draws a bit weird without the forward can't I'm used to on the AG holster but I'm sure that's just a training issue. I originally got it because its kydex and summers are hot in Colorado so I didn't want a big neoprene thing on my back soaking up sweat. I ended up getting the OWB g26 holster to round it out, but I can't really think of a use cases for carrying a g26 OWB other than it's a bit more comfortable than anything IWB and with a loose t-shirt I can conceal the 26 OWB.Do you guys have any particular use cases, weather, or clothing where you prefer OWB instead of IWB on a compact gun? Travelling to Colorado

Good morning! I am from Texas and have a Texas license to carry (LTC) and will be travelling to Colorado next week. I know CO has a reciprocity agreement with Texas so I should be good to carry.For those of you who may be from CO would you mind letting me know if I missed anything regards to laws?If Handgunlaw.us is correct I am allowed to carry anywhere not prohibited by federal law including restaurants, malls, public places, etc even if said places sell alcohol. I'm also allowed to carry in public transport (trains, taxi/uber). I also read that "no gun" signs don't carry the force of law but if I refuse to leave when asked to I am breaking the law. Lastly in regards to my truck gun, a pistol with a 15 round capacity, that it is also legal. Finally I am not legally required to tell law enforcement that I am carrying (even though I will if I am involved with an officer).Am I correct above? And is there anything I'm missing?Lastly, a question. My wife booked a home through Air B&B. How to defend yourself as a 19 year old girl with zero exercise and poor reflexes?

So I watched the channel Horror Stories recently, where it is about IRL scary cases. I got terrified as I saw how many people died that could have easily been me.

To clarify I'm not fat or obese. More like chubby, but not super chubby. More like "thick" as a lot of guys think.

In spite of my weight, I have very poor exercise. My spine is curved to a near 90 degree angle and I focused too much on school to try going to the gym. I'm a HS graduate now, and I'm worried about my future as an adult now that my Mom and Dad aren't protecting me as much.

I would start ASAP, but I got a nose surgery. And I have to wait a few months per Doctors orders. But after, what is everyone's best suggestions? Especially against strong male attackers.

M&P9c M2.0 OWB Mag Carrier Suggestions

When you buy the M2.0 Compact it comes with 2 sleeves for the 17 round magazines. They're meant to prevent this from happening. I currently carry 2 spare 17 round magazines with the sleeves on them. I'm looking for an OWB magazine carrier that will work for the 17 round magazines WITH the sleeves on them WITHOUT the magazines catching up on themselves because of the sleeves.So far I have only found the Safariland magazine carrier. I just picked up a new glock 19 gen 5 was carrying a g 17 before and love the new 19. I ordered a few parts that I want to change. Extended mag release,Apex Trigger and trigger bar along with a ghost edge 3.5lb trigger connector, and finally some Ameri-glo Pro I-dot tritium sights. (same sights on my g 17) I have seen a lot of opinions on not changing parts on a carry gun but I feel like most of the things I'm changing are perfectly fine. How much better/ is the S&W Bodyguard better than an LCP/LCP2?

I ran across a "used" S&W Bodyguard today at a local pawn shop for $199. It looks brand new to me, like really unfired, no wear whatsoever. I carry an LCP everyday. I have a new LCP2 that I haven't even fired yet. Is the Bodyguard a better pocket gun?To add to this, my LCP's slide is rusting pretty bad, if I don't oil it everyday. Would the Bodyguard hold up to heavy sweating and high humidity better?And the real problem, another gun is not even close to being in the budget right now... So I've been thinking about the P365...

I've seen MAC's video of the P365 as I'm sure most of you have. By all accounts I should have written it off then, and I have, until recently. I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about it in terms of reliability and the trigger, so I assume the issues have been ironed out.BUT, these carry guns are essentially the biggest factor in surviving in a true life or death scenario involving something like another person or an animal attacking you. So something that works 100% of the time is absolutely ESSENTIAL to getting that peace of mind, something the teething issues when it was first released gives me cause to worry about.The nicer trigger, capacity and controllability of the gun are very tantalizing aspects for a subcompact carry gun. But trust is such a big factor with stuff like this that I'm not sure if it's worth the risk of that failure for the other positives.So my question is this: Stick with my Shield 2.0 in 9mm and accept the capacity, trigger and controllability problems that come with most of these guns or pick up a P365 and do some testing to see if it's worth trusting my life with?EDIT: For what it's worth, I've NEVER had a SINGLE issue with my Shield 2.0 in the countless amount of rounds I've put through it. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2X7o71m

Ccw and training advice

So a little background first I have a Glock 19 that is Stippled and has a RMR This past year I have been able to shoot around 3000 rounds.So my 19 has been getting uncomfortable to carry everyday due to stippling.So I’m thinking of selling my 19 and maybe getting a 19x for my range gun and a 43x for my carry gun.Obviously I would have to give up my RMR in order to afford to get 2 guns out of the deal.Should I sell the 19 and go back to iron sights? Reality of "1 Hit KOs"

Background: I have a little martial arts experience (Karate) but want to learn more. Haven't been in a fight that was too serious. Might come off as a little naive.

We've all seen those dumb videos of guys getting knocked out cold from one strike to the jawline from a cross or a hook. What is the reality of the 1 hit KO punch and its effectiveness in defending yourself?

Is it street-fighting bullshit, or possible under some circumstances? (Is it possible and practicable?)
Is it the easiest or fastest way to disrupt an attacker? (Is it effective?)
Are you just going to end up breaking your metacarpals get your ass kicked? (What are the risks?)

Starting a self defense class

Hi all, Bit of background on me, served 6 years in prison, Fought in Thai boxing 5-7 as amateur and 1-2 as a pro, bein around backyard bareknuckle boxing for about a year, now I'm thinking of starting a self defense class to teach, I was in prison for assault of an off duty police officer, giving my record would you take a class or not? I'm no qualified martial artist but from my experience alone would make a great backing other then the mcdojos in the area and a self defense system that would work any insight would be great I was 20 when I was locked up I'm now 35 full time job etc

Hyve Technologies +2 Magazine Extension for Glock 42 (A Cautionary Tale)

Well, after less than 20 total mags through a +2 extension from Hyve in my G42 the spring appears to have failed and the shoe got stuck inside the magazine. If you have a Hyve extension and haven't put too many rounds through it, I would recommend taking it out to the range and putting it through its paces to see if it falls apart there rather than when you need it most.For now, that mag is out of my carry rotation and I'll be sticking with the OEM 6 rd mags. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2XvFMUP

Holster recommendations for physical work

To those of you who work physical labor type jobs, what holster/gun do you carry?I recently got a new job where I’m constantly bending over and lifting things. I normally carry a Glock 19 AIWB, but it’s not the most comfortable thing when bending over frequently and I don’t want to switch to 3-4 o’ clock carry. So, I’m thinking about buying a Crossbreed ICE belly band and wear it a little higher above my hips so the barrel won’t interfere with bending. Does anyone have experience with this holster? Back pocket carry questions/ first ccw pistol

Im looking at getting my first concealed carry gun and I am looking at getting a Ruger LCP. Since its summer, im looking for a nice pocket carry gun for summer/shorts and a gun I can put in an appendix IWB holster during fall and winter with a sweatshirt or flannel. I was wondering about the practicality of also carrying the gun in my back pocket with a pocket clip. Even though it is summer, I do still wear jeans frequently so front pocket carry may be a little harder to get to.Any thoughts on back pocket carry? Any chance that pressure from sitting on the gun could cause a discharge with one in the chamber? Im not dead set on the ruger if there is another gun or setup that can work better im open to suggestions. Belt-less Holster Recommendations

So I'm planning to carry a gun in the near future. Gonna obtain a CHL and coordinate with my dad and my local FFL to transfer his USP Compact to me as my carry gun (that way, I don't have to buy a brand new gun). Among all the other things I was looking up, one thing that I have several questions on is regarding holsters.To explain, based on what I've read, I don't think I'd want a IWB or OWB belt holster. Replacing my wardrobe would be inconvenient. Putting it on seems inconvenient. Sitting down looks inconvenient, especially in a car. And going to the restroom sounds really inconvenient. And that's on top of the fact that outside of going to my office (which disallows firearms in the building), I don't wear belts. So I want a USP Compact holster that doesn't require a belt or is at least pants independent. I first looked at shoulder holsters, but people say that they're unsafe due to sweeping other people when you draw and your draw speed is also much slower. Next I looked at belly band holsters and they're what I'm leaning towards, but most belly band holsters seem to use soft holsters that require retention straps to hold in properly, which people also say is unsafe and slows draw speed compared to a proper Kydex holster. Now the perfect solution for me would be a belly band with a USP Compact Kydex insert. I looked at Crossbreed's Belly Band with the Kydex inserts, but they don't seem to have any molds for USP Compact. I also looked at Alien Gear's Sport Tuck Belly Band, which is apparently compatible with all their IWB holsters, including for USP Compact, which sounds perfect. However, they're pricey and I don't see much in the way of reviews or opinions on them, so I'm hesitant to jump in blindly.So with all that, what should I get? Should I get the Sport Tuck Belly Band? Does Crossbreed's holster actually have a USP Compact mold and I'm just blind? Should I just use a belly band with a soft holster? Should I get something completely different? What should I do? AIWB for G19+Inforce APL

Does anybody have suggestions? I’m not interested in mag caddy types. I’d also prefer to have a single tuckable clip, concealment wing and wedge. I’m finding it very hard to find models for the full size APL nowadays. Glock 19 Fiber Optic Sights

My LGS has a special on Ameriglo and Trijicon fiber optic/blacked rear sights. They both look pretty identical to me. I understand Trijicon is a higher tier company but at double the price, is it twice the quality?Has anyone had any experience with the Ameriglo FOs? Preferred preparations?

I hope this post doesn't seem too bland but I figured a nice simple prompt could make for some good discussion. Here are my preferences as far as weapons, blades, and martial arts go. Feel free to share yours and why you chose each one.

What

Martial art: Muay Thai
Firearm: Glock 19 Gen 5
Blade(s): Shivworks Clinch Pick + Push Dagger

Why

Knowing how to punch, dodge, and use knees+elbows is incredibly useful in a self-defense situation. I started training around five years ago but only went serious last February.
The ambidextrous slide release is useful since I'm a left-hand draw.
Both knives are easy to draw and deploy, even under pressure and in tight spaces.
