What is the claw for on IWB holsters?

I’ve noticed a lot of AIWB holsters have a claw on them. Is this just to catch the pants so the holster doesn’t come out on the draw with high retention? Could someone explain? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Wlrth1
