I’ll probably avoid carrying 1911s from now on

So my brand new Ruger SR1911 in 10mm just broke at the range.....like catastrophically. I was considering carrying it more often because of how accurate it is and how much stopping power it offers, but now I can’t bring myself to trust it at all.The part where the link attaches to the barrel just sheared right off. I wasn’t even shooting hot ammo, just basic magtech 180gr stuff. The RSO took a look at it and was flabbergasted considering the weak ammo and the fact that Rugers are usually built like tanks. I looked in to it a bit more and apparently there are quite a few instances of this happening with not only this specific model but also just 1911s in general because of the necessity for the fit and contour of the impact site to be perfect, not to mention about a million other factors.Like what the hell? I thought ruger would be about as beefy as possible for the 10mm caliber but apparently it’s still not built well enough. Gonna have to send it back for a new barrel and then figure out if I even still want it after that. There’s cases where a guy’s second barrel did the same thing so I have no faith that the problem is isolated.Maybe if I go the aftermarket route I can get a barrel that fits better and is built stronger? But even if I could find something, Id have to spend a bunch more which sucks.I don’t mean to shit on all 1911s, I love the way they shoot and just wish the design wasn’t so hard to get right. I guess this post is really just a warning to others that think it’s a good idea to carry them. I had the Ruger strapped to my hip for the last camping trip I went on, and that whole time I had no idea that if a bear or mountain lion walked up on me, my gun would have shattered when I needed it most. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Hh4GQg
