When The X-Files was on the air, I got really hooked on it about season 2. I wasn't quite 20 I think.Anyways several years after that I was reading an article in which David Duchovny (who plays the lead character, an FBI agent) was talking about how some real FBI agents who were fans of the show, gave him some real-FBI-guy advice. They told him to stop using his gun hand to flash his badge, because he'd want his gun hand to be free in case he needed it quickly.I have no idea if cops or FBI agents actually get taught that, but that advice has stuck with me all these years and got me thinking early out. I started carrying when I was 21, and have always made an effort to keep my gun hand free.I have a backpack and I'm constantly throwing it over a shoulder. Early on I had to correct my behavior and stop throwing it over the shoulder of the gun side of my body because now my gun was obstructed. I have a pile of children now and am daily at the grocery store it seems like. If I walk out of the store with more bags than I can carry in one hand, then I use a cart because I want my gun hand free.I enjoy practicing this kind of situational awareness and wonder how many of you do the same or similar. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2BDSYwQ
