Friend was attacked yesterday questions on if he were carrying

Hey guys,So yesterday my buddy texts me fuming, I ask him what's going on and if he needs help, and he proceeds to tell me about the car accident he was just in. I don't fully understand what happened because he was still shaken up but the gist is some dude rear-ended him, they both pulled into a parking lot so they could inspect the damage/exchange info. Well instead, the guy runs over to my friends car (Convertible with the top down) and grabs him by the shirt and starts swinging. My buddy isn't a big guy, he's 5'7-5'8"ish and probably 140lbs or less. So he grabbed a knife, which is all he had, and told the guy to get back until the cops got there.Douchebag ended up being a former heroin addict with a bunch of other violent offenses.Anyways, my buddy isn't super into guns. He likes going to the range but has never really been interested in carrying, but he was asking me questions about how he should've reacted. First he asked if he would've been in the right to tell the guy he had a gun (If he did), and he also asked if he should flash the holster/gun. I told him no, basically the gun should never be seen until it leaves the holster, and it should only leave the holster if he feels his life was in danger. He doesn't HAVE to use it, but he needs to be fully prepared to. If the guy backs down, that's great, wait for the cops to arrive.Obviously the best thing would've been to avoid the situation, maybe throw it in gear and get away if possible, but if his car was already off it would've taken far too long, and he did everything right up until the guy attacked him.So I have a few questions. 1. WOuld drawing have been appropriate in that situation? Obviously none of us were there, but going off my explanation, I think it would've been justified. 2. How do you speak to the cops, especially on the phone? Let's say you draw, the aggressor backs down, and you call 911. I would think you would want to avoid using "gun" or anything, so what would you say? "I was just attacked, I defended myself and the attacker is subdued. I am at location ______ and wearing ________"? I'd want to police to know I had a weapon so they don't show up and immediately shoot the guy with the gun, but I don't want to say "Yeah I'm holding this guy at gunpoint"How would you all have reacted if you were carrying? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1ph1hTC
