Is it necessary to load all mags with defense ammo?

I carry a Glock 19 with two spare mags whenever I leave the house for a total of 46 rounds. In the past, when ammo was cheaper and easier to find, I had no issue using my defense ammo (Federal HST 124gr) to “fill” all 46 rounds.I generally shoot through the carry ammo once or twice a year to get rid of the old stuff.So now that prices are higher than before, I am considering only buying one of the small boxes (I think 20 rounds) and then filling the remaining 26 rounds with general target ammo.What is your take?
