I was in a strip mall, grabbed a coffee from the supermarket and was walking back to work. I can't carry at work.Condition near-green because there's no reason not to be in this area.I see two "youths" in a van, drive slowly past me (slow is the right idea in the strip mall)- passenger is the only one I can see- he has a glock in his hand (or it appears, could have been airsoft, etc) and it pointing straight up at the ceiling. Window was up.I presume he was trying to show it off. This was maybe 20' or so away and there were parked cars between us and I was next to several shops.I froze- and watched. And this what I want to discuss. It wasn't "I'm afraid- frozen with fear"- it was 100% focus on the gun and what he was doing with it- with the understanding that I had (reasonably) hard cover of the cars if I wanted to duck down. But I didn't want to duck because I needed to know what he was doing with it.The most likely situation is that nothing happens, they keep driving, I call the police, etc. He's also not likely to shoot through the window- note "likely".Worst case, he charges at me shooting...Well nothing happened- they kept driving, near me and oblivious called it in, cops probably did nothing. So my options were:freeze- observe, prepared to duck or fleeduck behind a car and stayflee any directionflee back of a shop and out the other sideother? What would you have done if you weren't carrying, and what if you were?Is "I think I saw a glock being shown" sufficient to draw? I think I would have ducked and drawn. If you choose to flee into a shop- do you warn others? I've actually gotten in trouble with management once when I overheard the guard say, "You need to tell everyone to evacuate"- suspicious package- I grabbed my stuff, told the others around me and fled. I got in trouble for nothing reporting to the manager and letting that person handle it. Next time, I flee and the others are on their own. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2IRt4Kr
