Are there any shall-issue-CCW states that force the carried gun to be registered?

As far as I know, CCW permits don't require the carry-gun to be registered. My state certainly doesn't. And Constitutional-carry states wouldn't. But maybe there are a few states that do? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2EZmFpp

Carrying a hotel bar?

In my state the law is that you cannot carry inside an establishment that earns over 50% of its revenue from liquor sales. Where does this put a hotel bar? Is it considered a separate from the hotel? I'm sure the bar gets most of it's revenue from liquor, but in comparison to the hotel revenue it wouldn't even be close to 50%. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2F2tuuE

New to conceal and need some guidance on full size carry

So I've decided to finally conceal carry. I'm a bigger guy ( almost 6'4 and 290lbs). After messing and trying different setups I've decided on carry owb and carrying a full size.I got a sig p320 and a Blackhawk omnivore with a rail light attachment. I own a coffee shop and get in while it's dark and leave when it's dark so having a light and something I can grab was a must. What are some tips and tricks for carrying a full size owb and also help with minimize printing. Thank you so much in advanced. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2Fcf2zm

Is Blue Alpha Gear Hybrid considered a very stiff belt?

I just recently switched to AIWB carry. No matter what ride hide I try I still develop a hot spot and print pretty badly. I am 6 ft 165 lbs and pretty slender. I am using the Trex Arms sidecar and the Blue Alpha Gear Hybrid belt and I’m wondering if maybe the belt isn’t stiff enough to pull the holster into my body with the raptor claw. In theory, if it was a stiffer belt, wouldn’t it help get rid of the hotspot and not print as badly? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2F0AOCY

Arrest with no conviction: CCW disqualification in Ventura County, CA?

Title pretty much says it. I was detained on an intoxication/under the influence related (Not DUI or possession or anything like that) misdemeanor charge from late 2008, BUT the Case ended up being dismissed. It’s been nearly 10 years since. Besides that my record a squeaky clean. My arrest record is not publicly available but I’m sure law enforcement agencies can still see it, so...Will this get in the way of me obtaining my CCW?Ventura county is a “shall issue” county in California. Thank god. Still, I would like some experiential input before potentially wasting money on the application’s background check. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2COOizv

I've looked at a couple of sites, and it looks like I'm golden until I hit Maryland. It looks like a brick wall after that. It doesn't seem like I can transport a handgun unless it's registered in the state. Anyone know if I can legally get around this? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2F0OqOi

Lefty-friendly single stack 9mm carry gun (7 round minimum)

It's time for a new carry gun, I've decided that my Kahr CW380 is far from perfect, and would like to go to 9mm now that I have a full-size handgun so I can buy the same ammo.I'm left handed so this is a hard pick. Glock 43 is a hard NO, had one, didn't like it.Size / weight of a double stack would likely keep me from carrying since I'm so used to the tiny Kahr.Anyone have any recommendations?Currently debating the XDs & Shield (doesn't have left hand mag release, but I'd train to use right hand) via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2FzGYLa

Love Handles & Holsters?

Currently I carry AIWB, a minimal kydex holster for my LCr .38+p w/ red dot. It's pretty uncomfortable but I've been carrying it for years now. Looking at something with more capacity and slimmer - Shield 2.0 looks to be the ticket. Im considering changing my carry position as I spend a lot of time sitting. Effective defense methods for small people.

As in the title. I'm short and skinny compared to the average size of my countrymen and I fear for myself. Getting a gun is not an option, I live in a much more regulated country than the USA, and you can't carry a weapon, not even a knife, without a good motivation (such as past aggressions for which you have filed a lawsuit or a huge income). Tasers are not allowed as well, and I prefer to be beaten than to use pepper spray in public (lol, don't downvote me for this). What could be a good self defense solution for me?

Scenario thoughts?

Hey.. so, I've always kind of wondered what the best course of action would be in a situation where there is a bad guy pointing a gun at a good person, say robbing a clerk at a gas station. Imagine I am behind the bad guy, and can get an angle to ensure I do not hit the clerk when shooting the bad guy. My concern is that if I shoot that bad guy, that he will either purposefully pull the trigger, or flinch from being shot, and pull the trigger on his gun shooting the clerk. So, do you guys think it would be better to wait until he moves the gun so it isn't pointing at the innocent before taking the shot? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2BSuD5c

So I've got a P2022 and the grip rubs my side terribly raw if I try to carry IWB for long without a shirt between me and the grip. BellyBand/TriggerGuard

So I do see this question has been asked (http://ift.tt/2CKXXqM), but it was a while ago and wanted to see. I'm really interested in the belly band (do a lot of running, hiking in shorts, deep conceal situations as well) but I'm super worried about a trigger pull in the band. Most of them I see use like elastic or Lycra material to retain the gun, but do any belly bands offer some significant trigger guardage? If you have recommendations, even if you recommend something previously posted in the above post, let me know. You'd be making sure I go from 80% carrying to 100%. Thanks!Edit: if no recommendation for belly, any shoulder holster recommendations for an active lifestyle? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2EVvHYA

LEO encounter, not ideal

I was pulled over a couple of days ago heading to my office from a client’s farm. Quite a peculiar situation. My Sig 229 was AIWB on my right side. This happened in Texas.Turned off a 40mph road on to a 30mph and but continued to go 40mph. Found myself staring down the radar gun of a motorcycle cop in someone’s driveway and he lights me up. No place to pull off because I was in a residential area with sidewalks so I threw on my hazards and stopped on the street. Got my DL, LTC, and my registration in my hands at the 10 and 2 with window rolled down.Officer comes up asks for the usual stuff. This is where it goes off course. I try handing him all three things but he carefully picks out only the DL and registration causing me to drop my LTC on the floorboard. I kind of look at him perplexed and ask “May I go ahead and get that off the floorboard?” He responds in the affirmative and I pick it up (These were my only words spoken to him throughout the entirety of the stop). I then extend my LTC to him and he says in a rude way “I don’t want to see that.” I was kind of unsure what to do next so I just decided to sit there and wait for him to finish up his business. I sign the ticket and wait for him to come back from his motorcycle. He comes up on my passenger side and taps on the window with the ticket in hand. I motion to him the international sign that my window is a manual roll down. He just looks at me dumbfounded so I unbuckle my seatbelt and crawl over the center console to unlock the door for him. He throws in the ticket on my seat and closes the door.By the time I left he was in the street on foot motioning another car to pull in behind me. Didn’t feel like I was being protected and served, felt more like a business transaction. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2CJ6F95

Defense Networks vs Insurance Providers

So I know this topic has been beaten to death, but it always seems to be focused on which insurance would be best. I’m wondering if anyone has any insight into the differences between insurance (like USCCA) and a defense network (like the ACLDN).I’ve done a fair amount of reading on the pros/cons of each, and it seems to me like the cost-benefit analysis leans in favor of the network, but would like to hear any opinions and experiences that you guys may have. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2EV0BQQ

Thought my work was having an active shooter situation this morning

I work at a large church. My office is in behind the main sanctuary with about 8-10 other people, pastors, bookkeepers, etc.Today contractors were scheduled to come in to do some work, and that work involved using Hilti guns or something similar. Something the office staff, including me, weren't aware of ahead of time.Well all I heard was something that sounded like gunfire going off in the sanctuary. I leaped to my feet and ran out of my office to the door to the sanctuary to look through a peep hole and try to assess what was going on out there.Meanwhile everyone in the office was just doing their normal thing. So after figuring out what it was, I asked a few of them "didn't that sound like gun fire to you? Well after thinking about it, they were all like "Yes, actually it does. I guess I didn't think it could ever be that." And now I wonder if I was stupid even running to the door (it's metal at least). It's frightening. People have no situational awareness. In every active shooting event I always hear people interviewed saying "I heard the pops but didn't think it was gun fire."If that was an active shooter today, the people in the office area would have had time to run out the exit door to safety. If they had just ignored it and waited until the shooter got into the office area, it would be too late by then. People need to learn to act BEFORE they see bodies falling around them. The other frustrating thing is -- I don't even have my firearm with me. My home state (Delaware) puts us through a long complicated process to even apply. I finally got that done and now am in what they say is up to a six month waiting period to see if they "may" issue it (although thankfully Delaware is a bit more liberal in handing them out than some neighboring states). When I get it though, I will be carrying. I've at least got "don't ask don't tell" permission from the main pastor. He supports it but can't know about it for insurance reasons apparently. It's also a vulnerable feeling not having my firearm with me. I carry when I'm in Virginia (where I spend a lot of time) so I've gotten used to it -- but until I can do so in my own home state, it just feels like driving around without my seatbelt on. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2CmGNUR

Alcohol and Carrying?

I have a weird question I would like thoughts on. I hardly ever drink, like once every three months, but when i do it's usually a spur of the moment type thing. I'm not talking going to the bar, I'm talking a few beers with dinner. I never drive after having a drop, and I don't want to carry ether, but just wondering what a good protocol would be.Lets say I carry into a restaurant and decide I want a beer. Do you order than walk back to car and disarm? Where can I place my gun, for it to be considered not on my person/not reachable. My wife also has her permit and I won't drink anything unless she's driving if that makes a difference. Is that extreme should I just drink and disarm when we get back to the vehicle?Like I said this comes up rarely, but just wondering. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2F7X9BS

Best way to learn the laws of other states?

I am originally from Texas so I took my class to get licensed in Texas. I go to school at OU in Norman, Oklahoma so that’s where I’d be carrying most of the year. Obviously it’s my responsibility to know the law of the state I’m carrying in, so I was wondering what you guys think is the best way to go about this? I thoroughly enjoyed my LTC class and found it so helpful. Does it seem possible to contact an instructor and sit in one of their classes without going through the other stuff? I’m trying to avoid just reading the law word for word. I’d rather hear it from someone experienced. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2EU5eum

Follow up question after CCW class (Missouri)

Hi!I've been carrying permitless in MO for a couple months, but I thought formally getting the permit would be a good thing, and more training is always good. The instructor said a lot of things I disagree with (leather holsters only, pocket carry without any holster, what he chose to emphasize in a basicl class, such as 2 hours on tactical reloads, etc.). But there's one thing he said that I want some follow up on if possible. He said that, while in MMO it is technically not criminal to carry onto prohibited areas by the state, there can often be overlap with federal law. Specifically with universities. But I remember that there's currently a bill moving forward in MO that eliminates campus carry restrictions. And I know that other states have it legalized as well. How do state laws mesh with the gun-free school zones act of 1990? I.e. If it's legalized at the state level, is it still a federal crime? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2CkUZ0L
