Leather belt

I realize there are tons of belt threads already, I apologize for adding another. My question is a bit more specific I think.I’m wanting to switch to a leather CCW belt and am having trouble deciding which to go with.I’ve narrowed my search to Hanks “the gunner” and Daltech “everyday bullbelt”I carry a G43x in the AIWB position so I don’t need anything crazy thick/ stiff.I’ve heard the regular Daltech Bullbelt can feel like a hula hoop with how thick it is, that’s why I’m interested in the “everyday” version. Is the Hanks gunner the same way?Has anyone used both these belts who can give a fair comparison?Would the daltech everyday version be sturdy enough for ccw? Thanks in advance! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/iWT1CS0

Self defense question

(HYPOTHETICAL) Situation that is common in my areaSay I’m walking down the street and someone tries picking a fight with me or is trying to beat me to steal my belongings. There is no visible weapon but they are still assaulting me (fists). Do I legally have a right to shoot in this event? Even if there is no weapon that I can see?I was taught in my CCW class to only shoot when there is a weapon present and I fear for my life but if they were to knock me out, they could potential find my gun and use it on me. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/ylIKxaS

Weapon lights? Why? What’s the justification?

Newer to CCW so I’m curious to hear opinions. I can’t think of many situations where I’d be clearing a room out in public and be in need of a light. As a novice (don’t be too rough on me) I just don’t understand it yet. And go!Edit: asking to learn, not to crap on anyone for their choice/opinion. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/koa5NKv

Hello I am having a conversation with my mom. We live in California and we are talking about the ccw. My mom is telling me if a person is in your house and you defend yourself with your ccw you can still get in trouble. Is this true? Also what else should I know about California and it’s ccw rules? What’s a good gun for under 1k CCW?

Hello. I am new to the firearm world and unfortunately I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve heard of glocks and berettas .38’s and 9mm but that’s the extent of my non existent knowledge. The gun would be for my wife. Eventually I’d like to get one for myself but I’d like to start with my lady first. Any and all help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advanced y’all.Editing for clarification: my wife doesn’t have a reddit, I do. She asked me to ask the “internet experts” so here I am asking. I appreciate all of the feedback given. We went into a store and she saw a gun she liked. I don’t remember what it was but it had a small version and a larger version. Took 9mm rounds and was called a 17 or 19. She wanted opinions from other folks that CCW and their experiences. Yes we are in line to take some classes with instructors via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/wtN2e6c

Men who Approach me in the Dark make me Very Angry

In less than 2 days, I have been followed by 2 different men in Long Beach, CA One man rode up behind me on a bicycle very fast while I was walking on the side walk and I yelled some profanity at him because he scared me. He then threatened that I better be nice next time because I don't know if he is a serial killer. He followed me for a couple of minutes yelling nasty sexual insults at me and again mentioned I might be killed if I am not nice to the wrong person. What an awful thing to say! And also a stupid choice to approach me on a dark street from behind and expect me to be nice to him?! Then tonight, a guy drives up to me while I'm walking home, and again it is in the darkest part of the street, and, " excuse me?? I think you are so beautiful.." I ignore him, and cross the street behind his car and he cusses me out.

I am so mad. I am now carrying a taser with me and this is such a bad situation, because I get so mad at these guys with these horrible approaches that I want to tase them immediately. BTW, I am usually just going for a quick walk because it helps me sleep, so it is not like I'm all dressed up to expect people to flirt with me. I'm currently thinking about getting a gun. I don't know how else to handle this. There is no way in hell I'm going to just act nice to these guys who think it's a great idea to approach me in the dark. They are going to be in for a suprise attack because I've been so bothered that I'm feeling crazy. What else should I do? In reality, I can't avoid ever going out at night. I also can't afford to get a big dog right now. Is it illegal to tase someone who is not clearly attacking me, but is starting to harass me? Such as the guy who warned me to be nice next time or I could get killed? Should I have just turned towards him, and tase him?

japanese vs Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

So I'm planning to get into martial arts for self defense and for fun. In my town there's a place that teaches japanese Jiu-Jitsu. In the neighboring city, which is a really big city, there's at least one school that teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I go to school in the neighboring city, so commuting there would be a minor inconvenience at most. From what I've read about it i get the impression that japanese Jiu-Jitsu would be better for self defense, but when i read online in forums like this everyone is always only talking about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. So, which one is better for self defense? I'll probably go with the japanese Jiu-Jitsu either way since it seems more fun, but I'd love to hear what y'all think and what your input is.

College Campus Conceal Carry Request Denied (Oregon State University)

https://ift.tt/mG7agy1 via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/QHhN3zr

I feel like I unlocked a secret cheat code involving concealed carry.

So recently I visited a nationally recognized museum, which I won’t mention here in case they don’t want these non-public policies published. When I visited the museum, I knew ahead of time that CC wasn’t allowed, but I’ve gotten away with it before at this same museum and I really wanted to have my weapon on me for the walk to and from the car (I live in a dangerous city).Walking up to the museum, they have a huge sign in red about no knives or guns and lots of words. Not wanting to read all the specifics, I walked right in and saw they had upgraded their security from two guys with metal detecting wands. Last time they wanded my pocket and I convinced the guy it was “just my pocket knife” and showed him the knife. Not the case this time.I walked through the metal detector and of course it went off. I was motioned over to the security guy behind a desk. Walking over I opened my nervous mouth with “I think my little pocket knife set it off.” Not helping my nerves, I looked to the left and saw a video of myself walking through the detector and a 3-D wire-frame box highlighting exactly where I had my CCW.“Sir is there anything in your waistband that I need to know about?”Knowing that they know, “I’m sorry I didn’t see your policy. I’d be happy to leave now. Don’t want any issues.”“Oh no sir. There are no issues. As long as you can show me your concealed permit everything is fine.”I reluctantly handed him my permit, because the security guard could have been lying and now he’s got my information and could call the authorities. Instead, he proceeds to write down my information, calls in my physical description over the radio, hands me back my CCL and says, “enjoy your time at the museum!”Just for background, I decided to carry at the museum because I believe mass shooters are targeting areas with seemingly low security and lots of people. So in my mind I want the ability to stand a chance against an active shooter in a place where I think it’s more likely to happen.TL;DR Public policy at a museum is no firearms. Secret policy is you’re allowed to concealed carry if you have your permit. I took a risk and it paid off. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/DY7yb9Z

Carrying despite “firearms prohibited” signs

An active shooter, robber, or otherwise bad guy will gladly walk past one of these signs unphased knowing they have a significant advantage over their unarmed victims. These “no firearm” policies are dangerous. The Greenwood shooting is a great example of why these shouldn’t stop folks from carrying- the hero ignored the “firearms prohibited” sign and the world is better for it. What are the actual consequences of carrying despite the “no firearms” signs? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/QDwcmlx

Pepper spray against knife attacks

I need something to defend myself from psychopathic people and robbers. And I figured that a knife would be useless because i have no idea how to wield it and most importantly I'm weak (135 lbs male). So I'm considering a pepper spray to defend myself from attackers armed with a knife or other melee weapons. How effective would a pepper spray be in that situation? I've never been sprayed myself and I've heard that some people won't be stopped by it, only enraged more and they will still proceed to chase and stab you with a knife. How true do you think is that? Also, what components should i look for in pepper sprays that are the most effective and cause the most pain to attackers?

Have you been in this situation? What do you do?

Last week I was walking back to my car from my date in an empty parking lot at night, all alone. And I got a little inkling of a feeling that somebody was following me. The thing was, I wasn’t in physical danger at the moment and really didn’t want friends and family worrying over “nothing.” So all I did was walk super fast.

I found this app about Guardial which simulates a phone call to deter harassers and shares location with your trusted contacts.

If you all have a bad date or in a weird situation, what do you do?

Too many women are placed in comprising situations literally EVERY DAY, and we keep ignoring that gut feeling. Our instincts are meant to be listened to and acted on. Please stay safe <3

.40S&W as a self defense round - thoughts?

I’ll preface the post with the fact that I’m Canadian so carry of any form is out of the question. I’m asking this for home defense. As of now I have 9mm, .45ACP, and pump/semi 12ga for this purpose but I’m leaning towards picking up a .40 glock 22 for home defense. I know it’s been popular with LEOs all over NA but with the trend of then moving to 9mm, I’m wondering if .40 is still worth it or still an objectively viable caliber.Thoughts? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/Q4spjdw

Does Greenwood IN shooting make you rethink your CCW options?

After seeing that he took 10 shots from 40 yards it make me rethink if im carrying the right gun. I normally carry a Sheild Performance Center .40 but it only holds 7 plus 1. Make me think i should get a Glock 19 or 23 (i reload .40). I was thinking about getting another p238 but after this it makes me think that gun .380 would not have been effective. are there any high capacity 32 acp pistols out there?

Mom wants to start carrying. Thing is she's very small and doesn't have very good grip strength. I have an lcp 380 max that she can barely rack and the recoil is too much for her. Watching her shoot it you'd swear she was shooting a fucking desert eagle or something. The gun jumps a good foot and a half in the air. And she limp wrists it so much that it's the only time I've seen the gun malfunction. She's very very small. She does well with 22lr. In fact she loves those and can handle the guns well. But 22s are unreliable and I'd rather have a centerfire cartridge. Which leads me to 32 acp. Little more bang than a 22 but more reliable and easier to shoot than a 380. But I'm having a hard time finding anything with a decent mag capacity. Are there no 10+ round 32s out there? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/1Abv5g4

Is Unholstering a CCW in a stall at a range a no-no?

I went to my local range the other day carrying my ccw and my gun/ammo bag with another pistol. The guy at checkout gave me the usual run down of the rules: No rapid fire, no double tap, no drawing from the holster, no steel case, gun always pointed down range, eyes and ears at all times, no cameras or phones. All good.I put on my eyes and ears and went to my stall. I took my pistol out of its case and put it on the table with my boxes of ammo. I took my ccw off my hip (unholstering it), cleared it, and put it on the table with my other pistol. After I did a few groups the RSO came over and stated chatting about my guns. When I mentioned that I normally carry one of them he asked why it was on the table. I didn't quite understand what he meant. Obviously so I could practice with it... I thought maybe he was asking why I was shooting the other gun if I normally carry this one. Then I thought maybe he meant, "why isn't it on your hip?" It turns out it was the latter. The guy was really friendly and relaxed about it, and assured me that he didn't want to give me the impression that the range didn't want me to carry at all. But he clarified that "no drawing from the holster" meant I could only unholster if I were in a life or death situation. He also said that I could not reholster it when I left, and I would have to put it back in its case when I was finished.I guess my understanding of "no drawing from the holster" was "don't draw and shoot," or maybe even more generally, "don't draw and present". I didn't think it meant "do not ever remove a weapon from a holster". If the rule was "no unholstering or drawing from the holster" I would have never taken it off my waist.I have seen - only in videos, thankfully - people who unholster their CCW in the retail part of a gun store to show other people what they are running, and I know that a huge no-no, as is unholstering in public in general. I thought of all places that I could take off my CCW, it would be in a stall at a gun range, but I guess I was very mistaken. Is that the normal interpretation of such a rule? Am I a dumbass for thinking it was OK to unholster at an indoor range? I always try to be as careful and responsible as possible with and around firearms, so if I am doing something wrong, I want to be corrected.I can certainly understand why this would be the rule, as it increase the risk of negligent discharges at the range. It's just kind of inconvenient if I want to practice with the same gun I am carrying to and from the range. I could probably unholster in my car, but I often ride my motorcycle, or even bicycle to this range. What do you guys think?TL;DR: Is unholstering a loaded CCW in a stall at a gun range frowned upon/not allowed? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/RfQ23AO

Could you ACTUALLY harm someone in self-defense?

What’s your take on the argument that you probably wouldn’t be able to retaliate and defend yourself in a self-defense situation for fear of harming another person? I see this often in Reddit threads making fun of people for carrying guns or having a home defense plan (even over things like keeping a baseball bat next to your dresser).

“Do you REALLY think you could bring yourself to use a gun/knife/bat/etc. on another human being?”

If that human being is obviously trying to kill/seriously harm me or my loved ones, the answer is yes, absolutely. I don’t see the point of shaming people in a gaslighty way for seriously considering this stuff (besides some weird version of pacifist virtue signaling by sheltered individuals). I love my life and my loved ones, and if I have to shoot, stab, or smash someone trying to end it, so be it.
