Protecting Yourself/Home without a gun?

This has gotten on my nerves so much lately just because of how ignorant some people are when I talk to them about it. Basically I’ll be living on my own pretty soon and I’d like to learn how exactly to protect my home, myself, and my belongings. When I bring up my fear of getting attacked or worse to someone, they’re always quick to say I should get a gun. I don’t blame them at first because I know it’s honestly an easy solution, but it does aggravate me that they don’t realize how many people are scared or have trauma related to guns. Even thinking about them makes me nervous and I hate having to disclose my personal trauma to someone I’m acquaintances with. The reason I get so upset is because it’s happened more than once, and when I say I don’t like guns they come at me like that means I’m going to go to their house and throw away all their guns lmfao. I’ve always had anxiety with regards to loud noises, so that combined with intrusive thoughts and PTSD would not make a good combination for a gun owner. Basically, I’d like alternatives to owning a gun but still with the ability to feel as safe. I have a dog who is quick to alert me if he hears anything that doesn’t add up, but other than that I don’t have anything else to protect myself. I hope this doesn’t come off as rude or anything because I’m genuinely wanting to know how to protect myself, I’m just tired of the people in person that don’t offer much of a solution besides getting a gun.

Most concealable way to carry a firearm?

What is, in your opinion, the most concealable way to carry a firearm? Obviously the firearm it self is a pretty big factor, but I’m more focused on the location in which you carry it. I’ve tried just about everything, including shoulder holsters, IWB appendix, IWB 3-5 o’clock, small of the back, ankle holsters, and I can’t say I’ve found any of them to be perfect. What I’ve come to realize is that nothing is going to change the fact that you are carrying a gun on your person. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is pocket holsters, which I’m looking to get one for my Glock 26. I know 2 dozen people are gonna say “why don’t you get a 43 or 43X?” I would gladly take any gun, especially a Glock, as a gift, but if buying it and don’t have an unlimited amount of money to spend, I would go double stack so I can keep a G17 mag on a NeoMag pocket clip as a spare. I’ve found 3-5 o’clock to be easily concealable with a Glock 19 but I don’t like the draw from that position, as well as the discomfort that comes when riding in a car/sitting. Appendix is relatively comfortable but because I have a Surefire X300U on my 19, it’s basically like I have a 34 shoved down my pants and it’s wildly uncomfortable. I could get a TLR and it would be flush with the barrel of the 19 but I whole heartedly trust my life on an X300U. So what position(s) do you find most concealable? Comfort is a bonus but not a must. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2QJsSRA

WTF would you have done?

I live in a town that has been impacted by criminal reform and all those take it easy on the criminal laws. Yesterday I had just cleaned up my property of all the litter, I let my dog enjoy the nice weather. We head inside and as soon as the door closed I hear a pop and those of you who go to the range know the shock wave feeling. I hear another pop and the same shock wave. I dive behind my metal shelf and peek at my camera monitor. I see some scrawny little shit shooting across the street right from outside my door. His friend comes around the corner and pops off one shot. They run off. Then I hear their intended target yelling and taunting them. Screaming “you missed me pussies”. He chases after them. I notice some movement out of the corner of my eye and see a child drop and the man next to him starts screaming for help. Phone in his hand screaming for someone to call 911. I call 911 and rush across the street to help. Broke out my kit and started cleaning and packing. Cops and EMS arrived within minutes. I was lucky their target didn’t return fire because I could have caught a stray myself. Police caught the shooters within minutes. My question: Do you shoot those fuckers in the back to stop them? Do you confront them at all? What do you do? How do you train for that? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3gOXUSz

Getting CC at 18. Thoughts?

Hi, all. This is my first post here, so I apologize if this is the wrong place to discuss. Anyways, I’ve recently considered getting a license to conceal carry a pistol with me lately. I’m graduating high school soon and I’m thinking about having some self defense while I’m out on the streets more often. I’ve been shooting guns since I was 10 and have amateur gun training (the obvious: hearing protection, never look down a barrel, leaving safety on, empty chambers, and general maintenance). However, in my area, there is some political instability with protests and such. I do not involve myself in these events because they don’t regard issues that concern me, and I have seen a lot of violence arise from these. I’ve had friends that were assaulted on the streets, and I feel as though carrying a handgun would give me more peace of mind. It’s something I’d never want to use, but if push comes to shove, I’d be glad I had one. I haven’t talked about this much with my parents. My dad owns a gun (does not carry it — simply leaves it in a safe), and my mother HATES guns. I have a job and the funds to purchase a decent handgun. In my state, CC is legal and 18 year olds can get a license. But I want to hear y’all’s opinions on an 18 year old getting a handgun for CC. I have no criminal background, and again, this is simply a peace of mind thing for being on the streets. What kind of firearm and holster would you recommend? I’m considering revolvers, just because I have experience shooting them, but I want something small, subtle, and safe. Any other tips, feel free to share.TL;DR: I’m 18 and considering buying a CC for post-graduation peace of mind. CC is legal in my state and I have no criminal history. I have a somewhat amateur history with firearms for the past 8 years of my life with basic rifle training. What are your thoughts on a 18 year old getting a firearm for CC? What would you recommend for a first timer? I would prefer to have a revolver, the smaller, the better. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3u5Hbyp

CCW incident at a bar and deescalating situations

Warning: Long, I was having an argument with a friend about carrying in a bar and wanted people’s perspective about an encounter a while back.I live in a state that bans the carrying of firearms in bars. I somewhat know of the laws behind the legality of this because I use to work at a college campus that was going through how to handle students carrying firearms in areas owned and operated by the university that also serves alcohol. Anyways, when I am going to an area that clearly has a bar hopping scene, I leave the gun at home especially if I know I am going to consume alcohol. Long story short met up with some friends to celebrate a special occasion in a very well known part of town for their bar scene. Its a very packed night. We stopped at this one bar and I am consuming alcohol with my friends and a guy that is clearly very drunk (can not stand straight, wobbly legs) starts hitting on one of the girls in our group and causing trouble with other patrons. Not to judge a book by its cover but this guy was wearing an over sized black tee shirt, and baggy jeans sagging on his waist. He had his hand grabbing the front of his pants the entire time since nothing was holding his pants up. Me and my buddies are kind of having a laugh since we see the guy trying very hard and we understand the game. She rejects his advances three time and he gets a bit frustrated and slaps her ass... at this point our friend is very uncomfortable and my buddy goes up to him and was basically like hey man not cool. They both get verbally aggressive and I decide to get in between them and told the suspect to basically fuck off and calm my friend down so we don’t get kicked out since the night is still early. Suspect gets in my face and starts saying some really “tough guy shit” and racist remarks. Basically told him to calmly fuck off again and he pushes me wanting to start a fight, recoiling from his own force since he’s that drunk... When he pushes me I hear an audible heavy drop on the ground and I think to myself I’m about to get a free iPhone or something for dealing with this ass hat... so I basically ended the conversation and waited for him to leave and turn away a few seconds later to claim my reward, karma right? Normally, I’d return the phone but this guy really made me want to stick with the finders keepers rules.Suspect leaves to regroup with his group while staring me down hard... I wait till he turns away to grab my iPhone flashlight to shine it on the ground to see my loot. Low and behold I see the loot and it’s a glock 26. My mind is racing at this point. I decide to keep my foot on the gun. I turn to see where the suspect went and I notice he’s fumbling in his pants talking to his friends about something... probably since he’s missing something. I hail my buddy, discreetly show him what I just found and he tries to get a bouncer over—it’s a packed night and the music is loud. In between this time I can clearly see the suspect panicking to his friend and hope that he does not try to come back to reclaim his weapon. Bouncer comes. Sees the evidence and hails a cop over working that night and two come over. Female friend knows what’s going on at this point and IDs the suspect. A friend of the Suspect tries to get them to leave because suspect is clearly drunk and he lost a firearm at a bar.... Cops intercept and they pull suspect over to the side outside from the bar. He becomes a little disorderly and they book him... got our statement and that was that.Long story short I support the 2A but do you guys comply with location restricted carry? Like at a restaurant where an owner says “no guns allowed”. I carry to my office extremely discreetly even though firearms are prohibited by the property management company (but not restricted under law).tl:dr; thought I was getting a free iPhone, found a glock instead via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3xJLhhZ

I am looking for books on how to defend yourself against someone with firearms. I am not looking for fly-by-night books that tell you to parry this arm and then throw them this way. I have MMA, BJJ, Boxing, and Judo experience. What I am looking for is books that are designed for professionals-maybe private investigators or servicemen, or some other group of people. And I am looking for books that discuss how to do so without possessing firearms yourself (if there are any).

Grey Man Backpack EDC

Figured I’d make a little thread about those that EDC a backpack, messenger bag, etc. Big topic to cover with lots of little tips and tricks to help us blend in a little bit better.I know, the topic shouldn’t be talked about to keep our secrets hidden, but I feel as though a generalization of how to blend in BETTER will help spark some creativity in all of us.So, I’m personally thinking about using a basketball backpack to carry my pistol, which is a Sig MCX Rattler. I’ll be later on adding a can onto it (everything legal in my state) and having a few bits of kit such as an IFAK and some, quote on quote, “get home” kit (phone chargers, battery packs, etc). What are y’all using? The psychology of self defence: How to channel aggression to overcome fear?

So today I got accosted by man who was very angry and clearly mentally unstable/delusional irrational but very aware and in control of himself.

Verbally trying to diffuse the situation wasn't going to/ didn't work because he was irrational (he wanted to attack me because I was a white man wearing black clothing and to him that meant I was racist)

I believe he had a knife due to the way he kept his body around his right jacket pocket.

I did stuff I've learnt through hard learned experience (London is a violent shit tip) and from reading.

I kept distance, I wasn't aggressive, I looked for escape routes and for other people and I was in a very subtle athletic position - ready to fight or run if he got off his bike.

I thought I was going to have to fight or run.

Obviously this was very scary.

I managed to stay as confident sounding as possible and he eventually got bored and went.

When I was younger I'd have freezed and got assaulted by this obviously predatoryan. Nowadays I don't. But... My adrenaline spikes massively and actually interferes with me making a choice on how to act.

I'm lucky that any self defence situation I've been in I have been alone and only had to think of my own safety.

With a child on the way and London getting increasingly divided and violent I need to learn how to channel controlled aggression into violent action.

How do I learn to do this because if I'm with my wife and child running isn't an option

How do I channel aggression to overcome fear and act in a different way to what my adrenaline wants me to do?

Protos-M v. LightTuck?

I currently run a LightTuck with the claw at 3:30-4:00 and find it does an excellent job of concealing my Glock 19. I'm considering buying a Protos-M because I've heard it's much better for that position (and a lot more comfortable) but I haven't been able to find any info on how well the holster tucks the grip of the gun to the body. My biggest priority is concealment. I live in a gun unfriendly state and with t-shirt weather coming, I'd rather not have the grip of my gun sticking out. Also, the standard plastic and steel Protos-M clips are made to accommodate a 1.75" belt and don't have a 1.5" option unless I purchase the Griphook or DCC. What's up with that? Do hybrids need bigger clips due to the angle they sit at? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3u3xfVT

How do i get over the fear and intimidation of fighting ?

This is something that still happens to me often even after taking so many martial arts classes.

I still feel fear or intimidated to fight even though who i'm fighting is either just as good as me or more and sometimes even against lesser skilled people. This doesn't only happen in self defense situations but also in classes like when i'm sparring specially against more skilled people than me. My heart starts pounding faster and i don't know when should i strike to defend myself.

Is there a way to get over this and be more confident ?

A beautiful day in the neighborhood

Not sure where to post this, but it feels relevant to the current state of the 2A community.I live in the ‘burbs. One town over from the sticks. Meaning: we have farms, pastures, orchards, conservation land; and we have new neighborhoods with mansions, sprawling estates, summer homes, tennis courts, golf greens… recent additions. The road I’m on is somewhat of a cut-through, and the state line between NH and MA is a 20 min walk.I fly the flag at my house, a tea-stained Betsy Ross one. I buy American vehicles. I try to wear and buy domestic products and I believe it is evident to the neighbors.I’m always polite, I pick up trash, I tolerate all the BLM and Biden signs still being up, it’s their property after all. This is background to what occurred yesterday in my sleepy neighborhood.I took the dog for a walk in the afternoon after my shift, wearing a 3% black t shirt covered in a flannel; it was breezy and threatening rain. By my reckoning the only part of the shirt visible was the “III” and a star above it - to a passerby. I always carry on such walks.I came across an individual riding a bicycle heading up hill towards me. A landscaper’s truck and trailer was pulled over on my right without occupants, and a Subaru was coming up behind the biker headed towards me. I did the polite thing and pulled the dog to the left hand shoulder, sat her and waited for the bike and Subaru to pass to avoid any confusion. I spoke up to the biker as he passed and said:“Hello there, more fun going down-hill, huh?”He looked at me, spat as close as he could to me and replied:“Fucking Fascist.”It took me a minute to realize what he had said as he pedaled away slowly. I was shocked.I replied:“You should really read a history book.”I’m still confused about the whole thing. I know he was referring to my shirt, and I have replayed the scenario in my head a few times considering what else I might have said…But ultimately I’m sure nothing I could have said would have mattered. And I don’t know how to categorize what happened. This is most likely one of my near neighbors.Has anyone else experienced this? Sorry for the wall of words but I think it helped to put it in writing. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3t3iscG

Got a kydex IWB concealment express holster for 40 dollars...

I, like many others use to believe that the clip draw clip was sufficient for conceal carry.I believed it was safe to carry a Glock in condition one with the clip.Thankfully it didn't take a ND to prove me wrong.it was uncomfortable, it printed badly, it deflected brass shells and directed them towards my head (stung like hell) and it eventually snapped.I searched for the perfect holster and came upon a Kydex Concealment Express IWB holster.and I know for the price it would seem that this is one of the junk holsters that are in everybody's holster drawer (yall know what I'm talking about) but it is amazing, the retention is great, the adjustable cant reduces printing, it doesnt print at the 5:00 position (for me) and it amazing. It is lightweight, small, minimalist and best of all: USA made.As time goes on I will update.*I am not paid to write this, I am just some average joe* via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/32YGjzG
