Blue alpha gear vs applied gear

I just came across applied gear belts, which are essentially the exact same as the blue alpha gear belts, but they add a plastic stiffener between the sewn webbing. Does anyone have any experience with either? They blue alpha hybrid edc belt is about $5 more with a discount code. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Mg05kS

Best full (or close to full) sized pistols on a $400 budget

I'm a big guy.. 6'8, 265lbs, athletic build, so I like to carry larger guns, small ones don't work too good with my hands and the g43 looks like a pea shooter when I'm carrying it.. Looking for something like a glock 19 that isn't a glock 19, had one, and I don't know why but I just didn't really like it and for that reason didn't really ever carry it.. Now I have a beretta clone (girsan), I like it and I carry it, however it doesn't really strike me as that reliable and you can't buy holsters for it or spare mags etc.Looking to buy a gun in the $400 range this week and any advice from all you smart gun folks would be greatly appreciated via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/380OnmM

Full mag or minus one?

I have heard both sides of whether or not to leave your carry mag full or to leave one out.The "minus one" argument seems to come from two angles:Loading a mag while in battery is easier and less prone to failure when the mag isn't to capacity. So this would seem to apply only to a spare mag that was going to be tactically reloaded. After time, full mag with spring fully compressed can FTL on last rounds. This seems to be the main argument for not leaving a full mag. But from what I understand this is older or cheaper magazines and shouldn't apply to newer, quality magazines. What are your experiences with this and have you heard any other reasoning for leaving one less than full in carry mag? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3838YXt

Shoulder Holster Help

So I've recently bought the Vertical Holster System (VHS) from Galco, and I'm having a bad time with it. Maybe I'm really just completely missing the proper adjustments, but man. It seems like no matter what I do to adjust it, it always becomes off balanced and the gun pulls it lopsided. It's fine when I don't move much but as soon as I reach for something, it needs readjusted.Any advice from others with shoulder holster experience (especially vertical versions) is greatly appreciated. I am attempting to carry a Beretta M9 with the Galco VHS. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3rIeE0N

P320 X-Compact, VP9SK, 509 Compact, or other?

Just submitted my MD CCW. Based on my employment and some other factors it is likely to be approved.I used to carry a Kimber Ultra CDP when I lived in actual America, but I want to go to a striker-fired 9mm with the ability to carry a more respectable amount of ammunition. I’m 6’3”, 235, and have big Shrek hands. Glocks are not comfortable for me.Price is not a huge consideration for me since I’ve been fortunate to be employed through this year and have lived somewhat frugally. What are your preferences from those three options? Are there other things I should consider? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/38398yk

Anyone using a TXC Beacon holster for a P365XL with a tlr7a?

I just have a retention questing for you. I know with most holster for lights the retention is pretty much on the light so you lose the positive "click" but does anyone have this combo and have wiggle while holsters? I don't feel it will fall out or anything it's not like I'm doing gymnastics but it does have about a half inch of movement up and down before any resistance. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3og3YnW

Anybody know how to get a steel core leather gun belt when living in Europe?

Pretty much all of the top American brands that manufacture good quality steel core leather gun belts (looked into Hanks belts, Relentless tactical, Bigfoot gunbelts, Amish made belts, etc.) do not ship outside the U.S.Could not find any companies in Europe that manufacture steel core leather gun belts - all the companies here only sell "super tactical 5.11-style" gun belts.Does anybody know websites/brands that ship steel core leather gun belts to the European Union? Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3rJRS92

Looking for some advice/opinions

Hopefully this is allowed here if not please point me in the right direction of an appropriate sub, but I'm looking for some advice and opinions from you follow gun lovers. I've spent some time building and modifying a p80 with a far amount of goodies on it and today I was offered a straight trade for an unmodified sig p229 legion. For context the gun I have does have a rival arms slide with burris fastfire 3, shadow systems barrel, ranger proof trigger and some other stuff. Now the reason I ask is because I don't have any experience with the p229 or the legion series. Any advice, insight or opinion is welcome. Also sorry if I have the wrong flair. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2JzEbbu

AIWB Holster decision

Let me start by saying I appendix carry an M9A3 in a JM Custom Wing Claw 2.5 currently. However, I’m gonna switch over to carrying my Glock 19 or 17 because I want to. Nothing against the M9A3. However, I can’t decide between the Tier 1 Axis Slim or the T Rex Sidecar. Anyone have any experience with either product? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/38IGQYU

Target focus vs Sight focus

So up untill recently I have been a one eye closed shooter. Even when I was in a branch of the armed services they taught us one eye closed for pistol. My question is this. I have no problem with sight focus with one eye closed, and have decent accuracy. With both eyes open I am able to focus on the correct double of the firearm in front of me for target focus, though in the range in low light standard sights were a bit difficult to pick up. Once I got comfortable with my new pistol, with target focus I was able to get about 4-5 inch groups doing push out drills. My question is, what is the consensus for where focus should be for self defense purposes? If it is front sight focus, how do you achieve this with both eyes open? Thanks in advance for any advice. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2L7oFE2

Where can I get an understanding of my state's gun laws?

I live in the state of Arkansas, and I was wondering where I can go in order to get a firm grasp of the laws of my state.Me and my dad are starting to get into concealed carry, we both received our CHCL but still don't have a firm grasp of how we would handle certain situations and how we should carry, whether outside or in the car.The laws have loosened up within the past couple of years for our state, but I still want to be absolutely certain about how to properly carry. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3hBBW3V

Saw some tourniquets at the 5.11 store (always trying to hone my tactichad look y'know) and wondered if there are any knowledgeable folks here that have any info or advice with tourniquets. Looking for VP9SK light bearing IWB holster

I currently carry a VP9SK at 3:00-3:30 in a Vedder Light Tuck with the claw attachment and a little bit of forward cant. I really like the single wide clip in the center instead of a skinnier hook.I want to put a TLR-7 or 7A on my VP and I'm looking for a new holster that's very similar to my Light Tuck w/claw. Does anyone know of companies manufacturing something like that? So far best I have found is ANR Design but I wanna know if there are any more options. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3pBeB57

Is the Tier 1 axis elite worth it?

I’m debating between 2 holsters. There’s an $80 difference between them, both are flexible sidecar designs. Really the only difference I can see is the additional claw-like part on the Tier 1 mag carrier. I just can’t justify spending $80 more for that. Any insight would be awesome.Edit: t1c charges an additional $20 for my light, making it almost $160 compared to the other holster that is $75 with a discount code via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2JC7biU

Having trouble drawing from Vedder LightTuck due to grip being so close to beltline

So as soon as I got my permit and Glock 19 (gen 5) I got a cheap $20 blackhawk AIWB holster (NOT the serpa) to practice drawing from concealed. I got pretty decent with it but never carried with it (retention is pretty weak, don't feel comfortable doing so as a result), and a few months back I got a lighttuck to carry with. I'm running a blue alpha gear low profile edc belt by the way.I've been having trouble getting my hand on the grip smoothly when drawing from concealed, as the distance between the grip and my beltline is smaller with the lighttuck than the blackhawk. Pics for reference, notice the gap between the front of the grip and my belt. I've adjusted the screws on the lighttuck so that the holster is as high on the clip as possible but it's still been a problem for me (I have decently large hands so wondering if that's the cause of this).Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Is this something I should just get used to? Would it make more sense to look into a different AIWB holster that has more clearance between the grip and beltline? Any thoughts or comments? Thanks for you help! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3mZfQcH

Anti gun coworkers idea of substitution for a ccw

TLDR: coworker says me cc is dumb and I should use a can of soup instead. (Please let me know if I have the wrong flair)Have any of you guys or girls had a friend or coworker have just completely odd views on guns?Today at work I was talking with a friend and got on the topic of confrontation with people. He told me some road rage incidents that weren’t much, just a couple “fuck you” and honk type things. I told him I’m not a very confrontational person to begin with and I carry a gun everyday (but not at work, why would I tell anyone if I did at work anyways) , so I avoid it at all costs because if I get into a fight, I’ve automatically brought a gun into the fight. I shit you not his eyes got super wide and he was like “duuuude that’s not good! You shouldn’t carry a gun, everybody’s got one now and everything’s just gonna turn into a shoot out, cops will blow you away for no reason since you have it” I then explain to him that I have it to protect myself and family, don’t open carry, and keep it well concealed. He then says “well if you just let situations of confrontation go, that person is just gonna go on to being an asshole” I say “well that’s fine because I didn’t have to argue or shoot someone over some bullshit” (like a person to start a pointless argument over something like a parking spot is going to stop being an ass because someone took their bait of wanting a fight lol ok)Anyway convo goes on and I also say if I’m out grocery shopping and there’s a mass shooting I have a better chance of protecting myself and others. He then says “dude just grab a big can of soup or dog food, those are so hard if you hit someone hard enough they’re gonna go down”Yeah I then moved on because I saw it was getting nowhere. Still my friend, just know that I can never talk to him about guns or self defense ever again lol. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2WTh0Mn

I’m considering a CGW pro kit for my edc Rami. Some people recommend _not_ to get the lighter trigger/reach reduction in the pro kit, because of the legal challenges for those who modify their trigger pull weight. Does that mean that any carry gun has to be kept stock?

Gear Priorities and Tradeoffs in Holster Design

I run across discussions (arguments) about Sidecar/Monolithic style holster/mag combos vs standalone holsters and mag carriers frequently, and as a full time holster maker, it often seems to me that most of the reasons that people give for choosing for or against them miss an underlying issue that I wanted to highlight. I don't make any sidecar style holsters, not because I would have difficulty executing the design, not because I believe they can't be carried comfortably (they can, but it's fairly body-type dependent) or because they don't conceal well (although concealment also varies WIDELY from brand to brand and body to body.) The single biggest reason that I have for not making and not recommending monolithic holster/mag combos is that they bake in a certain gear priority that I believe to be suboptimal. The belt space forward of my hips is prime real estate, accessible with either hand, and tools placed there can be utilized even in a clinch, or when grappling around on the ground. Speed reloads are less important to me than access to a small fixed blade knife on my centerline, and FOF training in particular is truly eye opening on this front. Retaining and controlling your tools at contact distances is a challenge, and a slick 1R1 is unlikely to be relevant in that context. Have you taken any FOF classes? How did it reorient your priorities about what you carry and how you prioritize your tool access? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3nZ9wDp

Two cases of unjustified “self defense” shootings.

I think everyone who wants to responsibly carry a gun should watch these two videos linked below. I came across them during a true crime binge. Both are of men who thought they were justified in shooting someone but in reality they absolutely were not and are serving serious time. There are also serious racial issues touched on in both. Sometimes I read things commented on this sub that remind me of these guys. If you pull your gun and use it, you better be 1000% sure you are justified in killing someone. In both these cases, the men thought their lives were in imminent danger and in reality, they weren’t. These guys are textbook cases of what not to do. I also don’t want to turn this into a “don’t talk to the police debate” as that’s an entirely different topic. In both these cases, there was video and hard evidence showing they were in the wrong, even without confessions. Watching the videos in full can really teach you something about the legal system and your responsibility as a gun carrier.https://youtu.be/sv0iN5J-9mkhttps://youtu.be/sVF_SlzxBJ4 via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3aUsQy2

How many times have you drawn your weapon?

On another sub I posted I had drawn my weapon 3 times in 15 years, and only pointed at someone once. Anti-gun rhetoric ensued. I had considered that a low number, but then realized I have no idea how often on average a CCW holder drew his/her weapon. How many times have you un-holstered your weapon in a situation to protect yourself (regardless if you pointed it at the person or shot)? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2WRq18G

How to use a swiss army knife has a weapon?

I am not a violent dude, I have never gotten in a fight in my life. But I like to be prepared (which is why I love martial arts and other things like that). The fact that I don’t like to fight makes it so that if I was stuck in a life treathening situation, I wouldn’t have weapons on me, which would force me to improvise. I know hand to hand combat, but if I have something I could use has a weapon, it would be better (well, not always, but I like to have options). Which brings me to my point.

Is there any techniques to use swiss army knives that dont have locking mechanisms on the blade, or other knives that don’t have such mechanisms in s fight?

Right now, since I dont know how to use the blade in a fight, would just use the corkscrew or another tool has a kind of improvised brass knuckles, in the same way that you could use car keys. But if there are ways to use the blade without risking to hurt yourself, I would like to know.

Btw, in a civilian fight, it’s almost always better to not have a knife. You generally have more chance that your enemy could turn your knife against you. Plus, if somebody attacks you with is fists and you gravely injure him with a knife, in most jurisdictions, you are in the wrong. This post is just about knowing how to use it in last resorts, like if you are taken hostage or something. Not in the typical bar fight situation.
