I wear basketball shorts in the evenings before bed. I am currently carrying a Glock 27 .40. Curious if anyone has any recommendations for some CCW basketball shorts? I want to become a CCW holder give me your tips and best advice!

Basically as the title states I want to being a CCW holder. I am 25 and I live in North Carolina.Beyond personal perfection, I have determined via therapy and other means that I need to start to have a hobby Beyond sitting in my house all the time. Currently all I do is work and stay at home and this isnt helping my mental health obviously. Spending some time in the house is fine, but I’d like to start a hobby that brings me around fun people who I can perhaps expand my social circle in the process....hey it can’t hurt to dream right.Anyway please share with me any relevant tips you think would be good to have. What was your first CCW pistol? How did it feel to first fire a gun? Etc.I don’t know a whole lot about guns, never shot one before, etc but I recognize the importance of owning a firearm for protecting myself as well as my family eventually and my community, heaven forbid I must use it.I would assuming starting with a CCW class would be the place to start? Or would I need more in depth training first? Thanks for all the guidance! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2DdCeOC

Lately I have been seeing a lot of arrest reports from the protests referencing “concealed weapons violations”.

Under most circumstances that would be a felony. I think we are suddenly going to see a strong desire for a easier and faster CCW process once people who typically don’t carry, suddenly realize they can’t just tuck a gun in their waistband and be on their way. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2YPcjEL

Any one out there AIWB carry a Glock and have replaced their backplate with a striker control device?

I have been carrying either OWB or IWB at the 4 o'clock position but have recently switched over to an appendix carry just to try it out. Buddy of mine brought to my attention the striker control device and I'm wondering if it's worth the 90+ bucks to replace my current backplate just for piece of mind. Question for those who carry sidecar/spare mag with extension

Do you guys carry your extended magazine in your mag holder/sidecar or do you you keep it loaded in your CCW?The reason I ask is I see people who carry a regular magazine and one with an extension and say that they dont actually load the mag in the firearm when they carry it; only in the sidecar. I just got a +3 Hyve extension and have plans for a Tier1 Agis slim.Wouldn’t it make more sense to have the extra capacity loaded should you actually have to use your CCW? Or is this based more off of sheer concealment? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3hFn8R3

Which is "the best" to begin with

Disclaimer: I know that there isn't "the best" martial art for self defence I'm searching for something that can give me a good basis for building physical strength, agility, and a sense of combat, basically a good allrounder to start with and later expand with other martial arts, are there good recommendations?

I am in a state that allows concealed carry public university/college campuses. However, my public university code of conduct either does not explicitly state, or in the past did not allow carry on campus. Can a public university punish a student carrying with a ccw permit, despite the state laws?

My school’s code of conduct states that unlawful possession/carry of weapons including firearms is prohibited. I assume “unlawful” means without a permit (CO requires a permit to carry), so if a person were to get caught carrying on campus grounds, can they face consequences policy-wise in regards to a public school policy despite a lawful, current permit? Or does state law override any policy? Im not worried about legal punishment, because I know that’ll be fine, just school punishment. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2EE78QU

Glock 19x recommendations: Holster & light

Hey guys,First time gun owner here. I am looking for recommendations on a AIWB holster and light for my 19x. I’ve looked at options such as the ComfortTac belly band holster and their Fanny pack. My training both saved me and failed me

I write this to more provide closure than anything else but if it helps one person its an added bonus. 11 days ago my dog was hit by a truck and killed. I have 4k cameras on my house and caught most of the events on camera even if some were further out of clarity. At 10:04am on a Wednesday my dog was playing in my front yard. At 10:08am my dog died in my arms.My 30lbs Boston Terrier wedged his body through my front gate. My mother n law is my neighbor and thought she saw him and alerted me in minutes. As I start to run down the road calling for him, I see a F150 stopped in the middle of road. Its 10:07am. As I run up, I see my dog lifeless in the street. I begin to shout at the guy to get out and ask if he hit my dog. I get a “I don’t think so” but its obvious the guy is nervous. At this point I get enraged and scream at him repeating my question. I get a “I may have, I think I did.” A minute has passed, it took this long to assess what is/was the threat and has it disappeared. I determine the threat is no longer. I turn to my dog and examine him. I see his stomach has 5-inch gash exposing his intestines. I know he’s dead. This is the most furious / angry / manic / livid I have been in decades. This is where my training saved me. I, for the most part, believe in an eye for an eye. During this event, I am conceal carrying a loaded Glock 43. At no time did I think to pull my weapon whether to threaten, intimate, or seek retribution. My training through range time, reading, video, and discussion has me prepared to draw when a threat is present. My subconscious saved me. There was no threat, just anger. Its now 10:08am. I pick my dog up to the best of ability, and for a lack of a better phrase, keep him together. There is no blood, but the image is unimaginable. I start to run home as my dog takes one single breathe, its was his last.At this point my mother n law is in protective mode. She runs to get my 2 year old daughter to keep her from seeing what happened. I get to my house and get my wife to get her keys to get us to the vet. My wife, as anyone can image, is a mess. We are in the car, trying to determine the closest vet, while questions, crying, screaming, and shear not paying attention to the road is happening. If I had to guess, 7 minutes have passed since the time I picked up my dog. 7 minutes where my CPR training wasn’t used. I was so shooken/shocked, I was trying to protect my daughter, I was trying to protect my wife, and I was trying to process what was happening all while trying to get to the vet and keep my dog’s intestines from falling out, I absolutely failed on something I train yearly for; CPR. The drive to the vet took 10 minutes, 7 minutes of which my dog didn’t receive CPR. I doubt this would have made a difference, but I am not a doctor, just someone who failed to implement what I practice only once a year. My pup was dead on arrival after two separate epinephrine shots; he just turned 2 years old back in May.I hold back tears as I type this, but I know two things. The dedication of my firearms training saved me that day from making an irreversible mistake. Additionally, my CPR and traumatic wound training will exponentially increase. I couldn’t fathom typing this if my daughter replaced my dog in this story. My apologies for the depressing post on a Sunday evening, but I needed this and I hope its helps others remember what training can do. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2G7bTTr

Utilising a coat in self defense situation

Hi, I am worried about self defense, since I dont live in a good neighbourhood. In winter months I am basicaly always wearing a coat, so I was thinking if it gives me an advantage in engagement (its thick so maybe a bit of protection from slashes) or if there is some way to utilise the fact. And if for example, I can see that there is going to be trouble beforhand, should I take it of to ease my movement and maybe throw it at the enemy for confusion? I am glad for any and all answers.

Are tasers legal in nyc?

Sorry if this is in the incorrect subreddit. Let me know and I'll remove it. I recently got a vipertech taser for around $30. I'm not able to defend myself properly if the need were to ever arrive, due to a severe shoulder injury. I see on Google it says a court ruled the law a violation of the 2nd amendment on April 2019 but when I asked a few NYPD officers they said they were still illegal so there's some confusion for me.

If you're just trying to beat the other guy's ass is that not self defense anymore?

I feel there's two completely different mindsets when it comes to fighting. In self defense you're only taking action when you have no choice. When you want to beat the shit out of someone you're usually mad and angry. I don't even know if people actually use self defense or are thinking about it when they want to beat somebody up. You just want to beat their face in.

So everytime i work on the weekend until like 1 am in a restaurant and go to the bus, I get insulted at least once on my way there. Its usually groups of 6-8 people in my age (17) and they try to provoke me because they are known to start fights pretty often but I’m ignoring them. My job requires me to enter and work in peoples homes every day, since covid is bad where i live my company has limited the type of work that that I can do inside the customers home. Today a customer had issues with a piece equipment I brought to them yesterday (I wasn't allowed to install it because of covid) I showed back up to give them a new device and went out of my way to activate it in their living room where I was allowed to work and verify it was working then handed them the equipment to and of course the customer couldn't get it work. Things went south when I told them I couldnt go into their bedroom because of covid so we can credit their account for the box that isn't working but there's nothing else I can do for them until we go back to BAU. The guy instantly starts yelling and asking for my supervisors number so I give him the desk number and start walking to the door as soon as I opend the door he runs up shoulder checks me and knocks me away from the door and slammed it shut then proceededs to block the only exit and yells about how im not going to leave until his stuff it working. At this point I backed off in to the kitchen and telling him to let me leave im calling the cops he starts yelling more and throwing his hands up and pacing toward mem luckily his wife started screaming to let me leave and after what seemed like 2 minutes of not being allowed to leave and his wife screaming he finally stepped away from the door and allowed me to leave. I keep a fixed blade on my belt and a pistol in my pocket and im sure It would have been justified to have used them to force my way out but I choose to not let him know they were there or be aggressive. This was the first time I was trapped and couldn't escape a threat and started mentally preparing to engage if i had no other options i think i did it right but would you have dawn your weapon and forced your way out or just play hostage like I did? What are your thoughts? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3gGCYcT

Should you practise getting punched in the face (in a controlled environment)

I remember play fighting with my mate a few years back. We had boxing gloves on and we were striking each other moderately hard. (we both have minimal fighting experience) I miscalculate a strike and put my head directly in the path of his swing. I'm telling you it wasn't a hard strike but man I was so out of it my head was spinning and it took me like 10 seconds to stabilize myself and think clearly.

I see these UFC fights were these people are getting full power struck in the head and manage to recover almost seamlessly. How do they condition to that through training?

Civilian body cameras?

So my ultimate fear is having to use a firearm for self defense in a super liberal city or jurisdiction where a local prosecutor is just itching to make an example of someone. When the weight of the govt is stacked against you... you're in a tight spot unless you have a trump card up your sleeve. Of course video of such an encounter corroborating your position and need to defend yourself would be such a trump card.So I'm curious... does anyone here routinely wear a body camera or have their phone record continuously while carrying? If so, what kind of equipment do you use? I was a dentist before retiring and would do something similar while operating for liability purposes... but haven't ever done it in my day to day life.Thoughts? And yes, I realize the best thing to do is stay out of sticky situations to begin with. But sometimes life doesn't give you that choice, same with the jurisdiction in which such an encounter takes place. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2EMNSRb

Tips on carry

Hey, I'm new to conceal carry. I just got my permit in June, it came back faster than I expected so I quickly just grabbed a Kydex IWB by MFT holster at academy sports while I continue to do research and determine what carry I like and what better holster to get.Anyways I'm trying to determine what I like, I like to hip carry because I feel I can move and sit down better, but I'm constantly paranoid I'm printing or flat out showing with an untucked shirt.I spent most of today appendix carrying and I felt much better and not like I was paranoid I'm printing. My only problem is sitting feels weird and I definitely can't drive or get in or out of the car like that. Is it normal for y'all to slide it do the side on your hip for sitting and driving then a quick slide to appendix?I carry a S&W shield .40 via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3gK5Dh8

Chest bag/rig for concealed carry while hiking?

I'm looking for a rig or bag that can help me carry a firearm concealed while I'm out hiking. Normally I would just carry AIWB, but I've got a dog who likes to join me on hikes, and I use a "hands-free" waist leash/fanny pack so he can walk by my side without me holding his leash, but that impedes any AIWB/behind back access. Some aspects of the bag that I would like would be something that allows cross draw, and doesn't look overtly "tactical", with a bunch of molle everywhere. Also, if it can stay snug while I am moving around and jumping. Glock 19 sized or smaller would be firearm as well.I remember a while back I saw some sort of cross-draw type bag that had a strap around the shoulder and around the back that kept everything snug and secure, but I can't remember the name for the life of me. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/31CctAW

crossbreed did it again

I finally received a combat cut supertuck for my Sig P229EE. I thought "no way is any holster going to hide this monster". Sure enough it does. If I wear a button up you'd be hard pressed to spot it, and it's very comfortable. I first learned of them when I got a mini tuck for my LC9S which I loved. It's a little problematic to draw right now, it's not broken in and the P229 has a lot of slide features so it might take a while. But I couldn't be happier. I love my LC9 but in these crazy times I feel a lot more confident carrying a duty weapon. I don't see a lot of mention about crossbreed here so I thought I'd post this to get in on people's radars as another great holster company. They're a little pricey but I've found I save money by buying from them almost exclusively because I get what I want the first time, rather than buying 3 cheaper holsters I don't like and still end up having to buy a CB. This is all just my opinion of course. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3jrFO7q

What we should all remember

I feel like especially lately, mostly on other subs I have been seeing a lot of “if I was there I would have...” “that’s why I carry a gun...” ect ect. I feel like it’s important to remember that the easiest way to stay safe is to avoid those situations all together. I think each of you reading knows what types of situations I am talking about. Take the long way home, don’t engage verbally, and don’t antagonize. I will only ever draw my weapon in my life, or my wife’s life is in danger and for no other reason. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2YMPXDP

Story time, and why you need to PRACTICE

I just ended a pretty long legal fight. Not cheap, and not fun.I've been involved in 3 instances where I was required to pull my weapon, the first two were bad, this was the worst. To start off, my parents live in a very rural area, nothing wrong with that, but I learned that late night can be odd out there. So I pull up behind a pickup at a stop sign, pretty much in the middle of no where USA....on my way to my parents house (I'm in my 40's btw).Pickup is just sitting there, engine running, can't even see the drivers head in the window. The aforementioned shooting I was involved with about 15 years ago started when almost the same situation, it started when I honked my horn, so I felt like that wasn't going to happen again.... so I backed up and started to drive around the truck.Apparently this was a huge bad move and insult to the driver. He opened his door, and stumbled out of the truck. Unbeknownst to me at the time he had a 38 in his right hand....which he then fired a round into the asphalt after losing his balance. He then turned my way and fired another round about 270 degrees up left when he stood up.I usually carry a P2000psk, but that day I was working with my USP LEM....not much practice, but felt OK with it....After those shots I decided to get the hell out, but straight road, deep ditches on each side.... I couldn't turn around or go forward.... so I backed up an angle and pulled the USP out.Side note, if you're not used to an LEM trigger, DO NOT CARRY ONE.I get out of my car and pull to aim and pop a round through my door....adrenaline and lack of practice with that trigger. The guy then points his pistol at my car and fires another round, I saw the muzzle flash, so it was in my direction, but must have gone high.I got my bearings and didnt think to aim, and just pointed and fired. Hit him in the pelvis and right arm.Cops showed up.....pretty much immediately after that, like 3 or 4 minutes. I told them what happened, and requested a lawyer, said that I'm not talking to anyone without my lawyer. This was several years ago and I'm finally legally OK. I had CCW insurance coverage that handled most of it. Some of those companies are OK, some are NOT.Get CCW coverage if you carry. I will not endorse or shit on any of them. Telling this story is meant to get you ALL to look into that kind of representation.Oh, some details to help understand some loose ends ---> My insurance company (car and CCW) did NOT cover the damage to my door, understandable. The Sheriffs were so close because several cars had already passed by the pickup and thought someone was in distress. The shooter passed away before his trial, he chugged some kerosene and choked. No civil suit, the guy had no family to come after me. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/31BNX2Q

Where the hell do you guys carry your phones?

Probably the dumbest question I've ever posted. But in light of this being month of almost straight triple digits. I've been playing jenga with my daily edc.Sometimes I carry IWB or AIWB, depending on my mood, wallet and important documents go into left pocket. Keys and pocket knife go into right pocket, spare magazine goes into left butt pocket via ReloadWrap (Highly Recommended). Right rear pocket is handkerchief and other pocket knife. Then comes the phablet of a phone. Since every phone is a large flat brick nowadays. It doesn't really fit into any pocket nicely anymore, if I sit down, I have to pull it out.Unless I'm wearing pants with a extra cell phone pocket (which all pants should come with nowadays in my opinion), jackets or vest, which is not comfortable in triple digit temps (unless someone can recommend a lightweight jacket for 100F). I usually wear jeans, and before anyone recommends cargo pants. I have cargo pants on the way in the mail.I've tried a bunch of weird options, OWB phone holster/pouch (which the shirt catches on and exposes the spare mag or stretches the shirt which causes heavy printing, if I'm not paying attention), jury rigged IWB phone holster/Pouch (still trying to find a comfortable position, the phone stabs more into me then my gun).Anyone discovered a way/secret of carrying a phone along with all your daily EDC's? I think my next disastrous idea at this point is to grab my reloadwrap and turn that into a makeshift phone holster somehow, and clip that to my pants/belt.Edit: Apparently a lot of you guys shove your phones into your front pockets. I'm honestly amazed. How do you guys sit or kneel down without the phone stabbing you. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2EGeZNE
