I'm 6ft 2, 280lbs, a powerlifter with a pretty bulky physique I would describe myself, and been training the sport for almost 8 years.
So today I was doing deadlifts, and this one guy about 5ft 7, 200lbs kinda fat, in his 50s approached me asking me to step outside cause apparently I was making noise and wanted to fight me, whist going on some rant. (Found out afterwards he has mental health issues and is known for making excuses to start shit with other members of the gym).
I'm not a fighter in all respect, so I decided to stay silent and let him rant on, luckily staff intervened in time.
This is the first time something like this has happened, not sure if I did the right thing? The all incident has left me kind of worried to be honest, as if there was no staff at the time of the scene who knows what would have happened, I've never been in a fight before nor do I want to end up with a criminal conviction.
However the incident has motivated to learn self defense for such future cases, what do you lot recommend? Did I do the right thing? How would one deal with such an incident if they are attacked and is there any self defense sports you lot recommend?
I appreciate it a lot!
