Anyone ever have a run-in with store security?

Happened to me this morning and I was wondering how others might have handled this. My reaction, without thinking, probably wasn't the best.Short version of the story: I ride bikes for exercise, and usually wear a belly band holster while riding (not the best carry position, but my other holsters don't work when riding a bicycle). I was on one of these rides a few hours ago when the battery in my Polar heartbeat reader died, so I swung by the local SuperWalmart on my way back home to pick some new ones up. I was in the store maybe five minutes...walked back to electronics, grabbed my batteries, scanned them at the self-check, and headed out the door. Had my phone in my face as I was texting my wife when a Walmart security guy cuts me off by stepping in front of me. When I stopped and looked up, I realized that there were two other Walmart employees behind me, surrounding me.The guy in front of me then asked, "Did you forget to pay for the item under your shirt?" My brain didn't immediately make the connection, so I responded, "What are you talking about? I just bought some batteries. Here's the receipt." I lamely tried to hand him the pack of batteries in my hand along with the receipt. The security guy looked at me like I was an idiot and said "You were in electronics. I can clearly see that you have something under your shirt. You need to come with us."And this, folks, is where my I-just-rode-15-miles-and-haven't-had-breakfast-yet brain screwed up. It clicked. I tend to print A LOT in my riding shirts because they fit fairly snug, but the belly band obscures the profile of the handgun...you can often tell that there's something under there, but not necessarily what it is. So, without thinking, right there in the Walmart entryway, with two dozen customers watching...I lifted my shirt and said "You don't sell these in electronics. I'm licensed to carry. Can I go now?"The Walmart security guy went pale, I heard at least three people say the word "gun", and one woman literally RAN away from her cart back into the center of the store. The security guy choked out a "Yeah you can go", so I walked out the door, unlocked my bike, rode home, and had breakfast.Thinking back on it with a few more calories fueling my brain, that probably wasn't the best way to handle the situation. Have any of you ever been stopped by store security or the police, after mistaking your firearm for something else? How did you handle it? How did they handle it? I presume that they wouldn't have believed me if I'd just SAID that it was a firearm (they already assumed I was a thief, and thieves aren't known for honesty). On the other hand, there was no way that I was going to allow them to perp walk me all the way through the store to their security office where we could have that conversation privately. Besides, jumpy rent-a-cops, small rooms, and firearms seem like a bad combination. I don't know if there's a GOOD way to really handle this sort of thing.
