Testing your carry magazines

I'll preface this by saying I'm pretty new to everyday carry, I've read articles, seen videos, and seen it mentioned here that you want to test out a magazine before trusting your life with it.When you get a new magazine for your daily carry how do you go about testing it? Do you just make sure it feeds well with ammo in general, or do you run your carry ammo through it?The only reason I ask is I'd rather not run 100+ rounds of ammo that costs me over $2 a round if I don't need to.Also apologies if this has been asked a million times and I just couldn't find the answer.
