Off leash dog.

I was at the park today with my family and was watching my kids play on the jungle gym. My German Sherpherd was leashed but tied to a nearby bench within 10 feet of me. I was carrying my G19.4 in a Tier 1 appendix holster, and a small case knife in a pocket. Kids are having a great time and my GSD is enjoying a cooler day with his frisbee. Then I hear someone yelling and see a lady trying to catch a pit mix that was off leash and making a bee-line towards us. My dog needs an introduction to new people and animals alike and the fact that my family was close by that he was tied up I knew it was a recipe for disaster. I moved to intercept and hit the dog with my knee as it lunged at my GSD who promptly bit the pit mix.The lady finally caught up as I was wrestling the dog away from my GSD. Luckily for me it was too focused on my GSD to bite me. I then held the dog for her while she attempted to leash it, she told me that she had it so I let go. This was mistake as it pulled her over and then dragged her towards my livid GSD. Finally got my dog away from it. Whole incident took about 25 seconds and had I not been aware could have ended pretty badly. No parties were injured thankfully. I was rather upset with the woman for being so careless with her dog. She could have had more control over it if she had a choke chain or a proper leash.Looking back I did not even think to draw my weapon, or go for a knife. Had the pit gone after my kids things would have been much different. Pretty lucky we didn't sustain any injuries and I was able to separate the dogs quickly.
