So I went to my renewal and live fire CCW course today. I was the only one who showed up wearing a mask, I was the only person of color, and one of the very few under the age of thirty. Before the live fire qualification we lectured on when the use of deadly force is appropriate. Unsurprisingly, comments like if I saw “black lives matter trying to vandalize my truck I’d shoot them”. Or “George Zimmerman was totally justified”and other goofy stuff that made me roll my eyes. Then came the live fire, I’m a veteran I volunteered to go first through the obstacle course cause I feel comfortable. I’m not that fast or that great of shot but I know my weapon and my abilities boom boom boom went through the course pretty quick didn’t miss a single shot done. But before I got my certificate I had to wait for everyone else to go through the live fire course. Oh god, other than the other 4-5 vets that was a shit show. These same people talking about shooting a mother fucker with their top of the line 1500 dollar handguns or their fancy AR builds at home had no idea what they were doing. Weather it was not knowing where the safety is, or moving from obstacle to obstacle with their finger on the trigger, or missing over 50 percent of their shots at like 10-15 yards, or how awkwardly they moved through the course it was just absolutely embarrassing. Mind you this is a renewal course so all of these people have been carrying for years. Yikes.
