How to go from: I can now CC and hit a fatal shot on paper at a gun range, to being able to reasonably defend my family and myself at home and in public?

Next steps after getting my LTC (Texas) to becoming a more proficient shooter? Obviously becoming more physically fit and combat trained is a part of it, as well as home defense prep to avoid a conflict at all.
