This is gonna be a wall.Quick backstory: This is in Lapeer Mi. I shoot/train at the rear (north end) of my property, where there is a 20-30' hill spanning across the north line of said property. This is where I shoot into with my 11.5" AR and daily carry Glock 19. Behind the hill is a stretch running east/west of the huge power line towers, then some mature woods, then farmers field (all totalling over 500 yards from the top of the hill)Story: I was zeroing my new Eotech on my 11.5 AR that I replaced the gas block on as well. So I did some rapid fire to ensure the reliability of my work, then started zeroing with 3 shot groups. About 10 minutes in from starting, I heard a quad driving around, but figured it was the neighbors to the east who are constantly on their quads/snow machines. Placed another group, and suddenly see somebody on a quad over the hill almost directly in line with where I'm shooting. I immediately put my rifle down and removed my ear pro.The guy gets off his quad and immediately starts yelling and asking 'what's goin on over here? this isn't a god damn shooting range' To which I reply that it's private property, and I have every right to practice there. He then starts saying that he's had a cow get shot, and its ridiculous that I shoot there for 'hours at a time' I apologized about the cow but insured him that it's unlikely from my rifle because it's range is limited, and I only shoot from about 30 yards out from the target (you can see clear impacts on the dirt less than 1/2 way up the hill.) I also told him that people shoot all over around here and that round could have came from anywhere. After this he starts walking down the hill, toward me. I'll note that I was carrying my G19 appendix, and the individual was roughly 40 yards away on the hill. I quartered away from him and told him he was now trespassing on my property and that he needed to leave. Luckily he stopped, turned around and left while still jabbering on about it not being a range and who do I think I am etc etc. I packed up my stuff and went back to the house when I knew he was gone.My takeaway from this is to not under estimate somebodies stupidity. They guy went looking for someone known to be shooting and popped up right in my line of sight, then started a confrontation. I'm not saying his cow didn't get shot, but the farthest I shoot with either weapon is ~40 yards, I've never had a ND, and I've been shooting in this spot for almost 10 years with no issues.I'm also surprised at my composure. Even when he started walking in my direction, I was clear minded, heart rate barely spiked, and was prepared to take further action if necessary. I'm glad nothing happened, and told my step dad who's a sheriff deputy in Lapeer in case something else ever occurs. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2RMBhAa
