Finally getting my concealed weapon permit

So I have my appointment set up and in Oregon they say it can take up to 45 days to receive your actual permit, but does anyone know if you can receive it earlier? They say they need to wait for state police to process your fingerprint card but I've been through DPSST and I've had my fingerprints done and background checks done before, can that make the process go a bit faster or does it not matter? Thanks for the info! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2sAzoxL

Wanting protection, don't know where to start!

Hello Reddit!I (21F) want to get my concealed carry permit and get a gun to protect myself. I work in a big city in a not-so-safe area and I want to keep a concealed carry in my bag during the day and on my person after hours, especially because the parking garage at my office is very unsafe. I know close to nothing about guns and don't even own one and I just need more info! The main thing I need is a good solid safety. I have a lot of respect for firearms and the power they hold, but that can also be scary. I want to make sure the gun I get is safe to be stored in my purse, while also easy to use in a flash if I get in a situation. I also don't want to break the bank, but I understand that you can't put a price on your own safety. My boyfriend is going to teach me how to shoot well (I've shot a few times at the deer lease but that's it) but he doesn't really know enough about smaller guns to help me! Any advice is appreciated, thanks :)EDIT: Ok yes I am aware that I should carry on my person! I forgot to mention my mom has one of those concealed carry purses so if I were to keep it in one it would be that one and that is mainly just for throughout the workday so I don't have to run around the office with it. I'm really just needing suggestions for the right firearm! Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/37TFQjq

Just got my permit to carry and looking for a EDC

I’m looking to get a EDC and looking at either a Springfield 911 or a LCP2 I know they are quite different but I have held the Springfield and I like it. It seems a lot of people say they are unreliable and just to get a sig instead. Many people say to go with the LCP2 as well. I would get a sig p238 or a 938 but they are a little pricey for me. My father in law suggested a bersa but they seem a little heavy for my liking. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Mainly looking for single action hammer but I know the LCP2 is not so just feeling around. I’m 26M. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2P1pZ9H

Should I carry before I get insurance or after?

I believe my CCW license is coming in the mail soon (less than 7 days probably) and I'm not going to be able to put money towards insurance until about 2 weeks from now. I know that's a small time frame, but you never know what can happen. What are some opinions on this via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2OzFuqo

Slim clothing

Hey all, so I'm going to be getting a Smith and Wesson 642 for my 21st birthday, and my ccw shortly after. My only worry is that I'm a bigger guy (6ft 240 pounds) so I wear clothing that fits a little slimmer because I've found loose clothing makes me look like a slob. I dont wear skinny jeans or anything, but my pants fit a little slimmer. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm worried about printing but I don't want to have to overhaul my wardrobe, and I still want to blend in with my social circle. I'm planning on getting a sturdy belt and an IWB kydex holster. I'm hoping the 642 will be compact enough to conceal in my jeans. Is anyone else in the same boat? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/35Lav0g

Looking for a super stiff belt to replace my Ares enhanced ranger.

Hello. So, I've managed to lose enough weight that I need a new belt but Ares stopped making the specific model I like. I'm considering going for the aegis but I'm not sure how much I prefer the cobra buckle or if there's a noticeable difference in stiffness between my old belt and the new ones they make. I've looked at SOE belts and the blue alpha but have no way to compare to my current belt. From watching videos, the blue alpha looks less rigid but don't know if it's enough to make a difference? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/37MCbE5

Just purchased my first Glock! Question tho. My rear sights seem off centered by just a hair, these are Glock night sights from the factory. Is this normal or not? Or did they need to do this so the sights are zeroed?

Higher chances of getting shot ?

Does having an conceal carry license increase the chances that you will be a victim of gun violence? In some cases i’m thinking about situations where someone had a fun drawn on you and may or may not have any intentions on pulling the trigger... but going for your weapon may escalate the situation.I’ve seen some really good responses so i’m interested to see everyone’s take. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2spA5tp

Seeking Advice for Possible Home Intrusion

I'm sitting in bed with a loaded 9mm pistol next to me listening very closely to any noise I may hear. Last night, my girlfriend was laying in bed with her son and had just dozed off when she hears consecutive loud bangs on her back door. She barricades herself in the room as soon as she goes into panic mode and calls the sheriff. Fast forward to tonight, and I come over to find this next to the porch https://imgur.com/a/uboygyp . We hang out for a bit and I go to smoke a cigarette at the back door with it open. 3 minutes into the smoke and I hear a man's voice straight in front of me in the dark of the woods. 12 AM. I am so struck that I heard a man's voice that I couldn't remember or make out what it said but when thinking back I hear "He ain't gone hurt nobody" but I'm not 100% because my mind could be tricking me but I'm 100% I heard a man's voice. So, here I am. Sitting in bed next to my girl with a 9mm feeling paranoid and running through different scenarios. Can someone give advice? I won't be sleeping tonight.

Edit: There were a few events leading up to the one last night that signify worse intent than robbery. I don't want to disclose too much.

Not completely CCW, but do you genuinely believe YOU have family members that would find a reason to 'red flag' you?

Someone who is that anti 2a, someone who believes the character flaws you've exhibited to them in the past makes you too unstable, too clumsy, untrustworthy etc to own firearms (maybe say they've seen you get mad at something, go off on something annoying/hurtful they've said). Or maybe they know of depressive/suicidal symptoms you've had and are of the mindset, "I'd rather police have his/her guns now than he/she finally snap and blow his/her brains off one day", 'Oh shoot he might get shot at a traffic stop one day for carrying that gun, he needs it taken away now'.I'd like to know your thoughts and stories on this. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2OYvg1R

Polymer 80 Glock 19 frame with Glock 17 length slide - appendix holsters?

I know, I know. This sub is inundated with these types of questions, but I have a snowflake request I’m having a hard time figuring out.I’m looking for an appendix holster for my poly 80 Glock 19 frame, but I have the brownells Glock 17 length slide (and a type 2 rmr with .395 Dawson precision sights) on it.I’ve reached to quite a few of the standard holster companies referenced on this sub, but haven’t heard back yet.I was wondering if anyone knows where I might be able to find an appendix holster option for this combo? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2XYVndf

Had my closest encounter with random violence tonight

Leaving work today I noticed two men in their early 20s parked sideways in 2 spots in a shared lot behind my work; they had both windows down and were quite obviously smoking pot, laughing loudly and generally having a good time (there is a back door to a bar in this shared lot, so it being Friday I imagined they were just getting ready to go in or were just coming out). One of my pet peeves is people not parking between the lines, and these boys in their beat up F150 had decided to try to park diagonally taking up two spaces next to my car. It's been a day at work so I know I must have given them a death glare because next thing I know they lay on the horn with me 5 feet away from their hood.I won't lie, I jumped.Next thing I know they are both out of the truck asking me the basics: do we have a problem? What are you looking at? Yada yada. The jump got my adrenaline pumping, so I just made some lame comment about coloring inside the lines being hard for boys their age; this was my mistake.Lead boy gets in my face and puts a finger in my chest telling me 'a jumpy bitch like you shouldn't play tough' as his friend looms in the background. I take a step back, tell him not to touch me and immediately start trying to deescalate - "the last thing we would want on is to ruin our Friday with a police report". He takes another step closer, makes another threat, I take a step back.No more words were spoken, the guy let the tension out of his shoulders, muttered something to his friend and got back in the truck and left, flipping me off as he drove by.I realize now how ego was the entire cause of this interaction, and things could have changed quickly with just a few changed variable. I was carrying tonight, and certainly was aware of it being on my waist during my standoff.I am still trying to think what I would have done had he swung at me. Two guys vs me? Could I have gotten away or would I have to brandish to encourage them to move on? It honestly has me wondering. Looking back, if I had just made the right call to avoid an ego battle and tell them 'no problem' the whole thing could have been avoided.Tl;dr I eyeballed some guys, they met my challenge, things got tense but I fight was avoided. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2XYNaFX

Your opinion on my situation

Little background info, I'm AD USAF currently stationed in VA. My home of record state is Arizona. I'm over 21, and aside from traffic tickets, I have a clean record. If I'm reading Arizona state code correctly, being active duty displays firearm competence and I'm exempt from taking a CCWP class. My clean record will also show nothing to prohibit me from obtaining a CCWP. My main concern was if I had to get my CCW from VA or if I could get mine from my home state like I preferred. So I emailed the AZ dept of safety on getting a CCWP. I asked them to confirm the information I found online and if I was understanding everything correctly. I also asked if I could get one even if I'm not physically in the state and if it was ok to use my father's address. They responded to my email today, not actually answering anything, but stating that they're sending an application packet to my father's address. (I entered it in the online form just to fill the box)Suggestions on what I should do next? I let my father know what was going on already. TIA via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/33v4aob

Hi all, I'm back! (Also I tried to post this and it didn't work, so if it does- sorry for the double post!) I've had surgery that's helped with my stomach issues and can actually start trying new ways to carry that's not off body. Has anyone recently tried the Can Can Hiphugger or Elite and how were they? IWB Hybrid Holster for P365XL, for those who might not wear underwear.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good hybrid IWB holster for...a friend...that refuses to wear underwear? Preferably something with a backing material similar to the ventcore that stealth gear uses. I would go with the stealthgear SG ventcore, but the end of the pocket looks rounded off so I dont think the longer slide of the XL would fit. I'm currently looking at the Crossbreed super tuck/mini tuck, but the leather backer seems like it will get hot in the excessively hot and humid summers where I reside. Thanks, I searched the sub and didn't come across anything. One more time, thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2R476Wg

CCW belts, actually necessity or clever marketing

My current belt is falling apart and I've needed a new one for a while, especially with now carrying IWB. However, a lot of options I've seen are upwards of $100, and I don't really understand why. I know you want something thicker so that your holster doesn't come up with your gun, and your gun doesn't pull your pants down, but will a normal belt not suffice? Is there something I don't understand that specifically branded CCW belts accomplish? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/34yL9CS

Bone saw for self defence

Using a throwaway because carrying for self defense is illegal in my country. Don’t want to risk being identified via my main account.

In my country it is legal to carry a non locking blade less than 3 inches long, this is so you can’t stab without it closing on your fingers. My Swiss Army knife has a bone saw which would be ideal for slashing, does anyone know if that would be effective against an attacker?

Freedom Friday - Weekly off-topic thread. November 29, 2019

Welcome to our "Freedom Friday" thread. Here, you can post anything that is related to firearms or other weapons(knives, etc.). Posts do not need to be self-defense related. I (20F) am interested in buying a pocket staff for self-defense. Thoughts?

So, I'm interested in buying a pocket staff for self-defense reasons. I just turned 20 and in recent years, probably since I was 16, I have been hit on in public on my way home from school and I was actually attacked twice by men at the park near my house. On several occasions men have followed me or even tried to get me into their cars after work/school. I have never used any self-defense tools before but recently I'm feeling the need to get some asap. I've been seeing people use pocket staffs on tik tok lately and I like the idea of carrying something small and collapsable in my pocket when I'm coming home late from my evening lectures.

Most reviews I'm seeing on Amazon.ca and other websites are negative. Some say the staffs are unsafe and should come with a warning. One reviewer even had to get stitches because the staff cut them badly upon opening. Other reviewers say they break easily upon opening and closing the staff. I don't know much about pocket staffs, so I don't know where I could buy one of better quality that is "more safe". Does anyone have any information on these that could help me out?? I appreciate any and all suggestions!

UPDATE: I live in Canada so pepper spray is illegal and I can't get a firearm (wouldn't want to anyway). Also, I am fit and muscular and am pretty confident that someone else wouldn't be able to take the staff away from me. I am a very fast runner as well. I've thought about getting one of those keychain safety alarms to go along with the defense tool of a pocket staff.

In your opinion or experience what is the best holster that is convert-able from IWB to OWB and can be used with a Ruger EC9S

I'm looking to add a Ruger EC9S for carry just to switch out from my M&P Shield 2.0 (which I only carry IWB) but I figured if I'm going to add another carry pistol I might as well add more value by having the option to carry IWB or OWB and possibly appendix, (I currently only carry at 4 o'clock) so instead of buying another 2 or 3 holsters for a gun a I probably won't carry as often I was wondering if there is a holster that is some what of an all in one, that still comes highly recommended and is still comfortable and discrete. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/34vZAHJ

College student

Hey all, so I turn 21 in a couple months and I want to get my CCW. The address on my license is my parents address, up in shasta county CA. When my ID expires, I plan on keeping it as their address. I moved to placer county a while ago to go to college, and I live here year round (I go back to shasta county when I can). When I get my ccw, do I go to the county where my permanent address is? Or would I have to get it in the county that I currently live in while going to college? I ask because the ccw fees in my hometown are much cheaper. I'm just confused by the process, but I want to do it right. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/34tVAYk

budget p365 edc help

Hey guys, (tldr at bottom)im about to get my permit and gun in about a month when i turn 21. im pretty sold on the 365 as my first carry guni need a little bit of help picking out some gear. im a broke college student on a budget. i dont want to sacrifice too much quality, but im willing to spare bells and whistles to save some money. ive done some amazon searches to see whats out there and i see a ton of stuff for reasonable prices.i plan on carrying aiwb, and from my research, some holsters are tailored more towards aiwb. although amazon products dont really say if they are for aiwb or not. i also need a belt perferably leather and brown. i would like to stay around 75$ for both, but im willing to stretch a bit further if absolutely worth it. i see a lot of praise for the light tuck and hanks belt, but thats almost 125$ and a bit too much for me. but if thats really the best way to go then i will stretch for it.Tldr: Need a reliable belt (preferably in brown) and a Aiwb holster for p365 for around 75$ if possible. but will stretch if needed.i really appreciate the help guys :) via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/33qs9oO
