Neighbor called me crying hysterically and asked me bring over a firearm

tldr: drugged up boyfriend threatened neighbor and they asked me to come over. nothing happened in the end.created a throwaway for privacy reasons. A few days ago my wife got a call from the neighbor across the street, saying that her daughter's boyfriend was fucked up on drugs and that she wanted me to come over immediately and to bring a firearm.I was standing outside at the time and had just watched the boyfriend speed off in his car. My wife let me know, and since im always armed if im wearing pants, i went over there to see what was going on. The lady was hysterically crying. She has 2 teenage daughters (15 and 17) and the older daughter has a 21 year old boyfriend. Her husband was out of town. We are friendly with their family, and her youngest daughter often babysits my son.Apparently, the boyfriend has been getting into drugs and came over unexpectedly, blew through the front door, and was yelling and acting aggressively. When the Mom asked him to leave, he refused, so she pulled out a baseball bat and threatened him with it. He left, but said something along the lines of "Youll be sorry you did that, ill be right back!" and sped off.I had her lock the doors and told her that she needed to call the police if she thought he was a serious threat. She didnt want to call the cops because we live in a nice upscale neighborhood and she already has a "bad" reputation with the neighbors, and didnt think police showing up would help that. I told her to stay inside, keep the doors locked, and stay away from the windows, and if he came back she had to call the police. Fuck what the neighbors think. She had to consider the safety of her family.I didnt think this was a situation that required having a firearm. Just avoiding the conflict was going to be best here. I decided to stick around and hang with them for a couple of hours to make sure everything was okay. While I was sitting there I had tons of scenarios going through my head, like what if he came back with a gun, or with a bunch of other people. What if he tried to force his way into the house? etc. I decided that, if he came back, we would all go upstairs and call the police and wait it out. If he did force his way inside, then things would be escalated to life threatening, and I would do what I had to do. We have castle doctrine in my state, and I think that would be considered a self-defense shooting. After a few hours had passed and everything had calmed down, I went home, but told them I would keep an eye out just in case he came back, and that next time they needed to call the police. At the very least that would create a record of issues with this guy.Just wanted to get that story off my chest. Do you guys feel like I did the right thing here? Is there anything I could have done to improve the situation or things I didn't consider? via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2UNgG2p
