Glock 43X Match Review (+some thoughts on USPSA, Irons vs Dot, AIWB vs Drop-Offset OWB and other gear)

I've asked a few of our Carry Gun Match shooters to share their experience and gear used. It's the same match I posted video+analysis yesterday. Here's what one of our top Carry-Optics shooters has to say (rest of the post is his words):I shot the match with my new Glock 43X with attached Streamlight TLR-6.The gun came with: Glock brand night sights (Ameriglo is a factory option for some distributors) and I zeroed at 25 yards two weeks prior to the match.According to Glock, it weighs 18oz with an empty magazine and is essentially the same height as a Glock 19, but shorter in the slide (sight radius 5.16”), and about 1/4” thinner.I have added the Taran Tactical connector (listed for the 42/43) and some skate tape to the grip, just like my competition Glock 17 and 34.I was using a Tier 1 Concealed Xiphos holster, AIWB. As an aside, the concealment strut on the holster does dig in a bit but does hide the gun better. It rides a bit higher than I prefer but is reasonably comfortable and very fast.I have a Bianchi soft sided IWB mag pouch that I wear in front of my left hip.I typically compete in Carry Optics (slide mounted red dot, for those who don’t speak USPSA).I have a Gen 5 G17 as my primary and a Gen 5 G34 as a backup. I feel the G17 handles faster than the 34 in the draw and transition, but with essentially the same recoil impulse.I use a DAA belt and Ghost “bullets out” style pouches.I like this rig a lot and have done very well at local matches so far this year.Going from the full-size Glock to the 43X and from a red dot back to irons wasn’t really a problem.I did find that I wasn’t as confident shooting on the move with my 43X, but it handles so similarly to the full-size guns that I was able to make up any lost time there or with my feet.I didn’t have an issue with drawing from AIWB instead of the strong side with a BOSS drop-offset. I did flub one reload because I reached too far back and missed the pouch.I dry fire my carry rig almost as much as I do my racing rig, but it looks like I need to do more reloads on the clock with the carry rig, and maybe consider putting that mag pouch closer to where my racing gear would sit.In summary, I very much like the 43X. I was third overall at the match and never felt like the gun was fighting me.It’s very good to reload on the move. Partly because the mag well has just a hint of flare to it, and partly because the mags are shaped in such a way that they’re easy to get started.I have a pretty good grip, so I don’t notice the gun having much more muzzle flip than a Glock 19.It’s big enough to shoot for a long time without beating you up and inducing a flinch, but still small enough that it’s nice to carry.I would very highly recommend it to someone in the market for a carry gun.I also highly recommend USPSA. All the gains I’ve made in my technical and marksmanship skills with my racing guns transfer directly to my carry rig.USPSA is a very fun and cost-effective way to become a better shooter. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2K9dha2
