So I had kind of a weird situation in one of my college business classes just now and wanted to get your guys’ perspective on it.There was an incident at a nearby IKEA where a man who was pocket carrying sat down on a sofa, lost his firearm without realizing it, and a six year old later found the gun and fired it in the store (nobody was hurt, man was acquitted from any charges). We were talking about this and the professor went around asking different students if they carried a gun. I (hesitantly) raised my hand. The professor then asked if lost my gun whether or not I thought I would notice. Since I don’t pocket carry but didn’t want to get into the nitty gritty of it, I simply shook my head and said “yes”. She then asked where I carried my gun. Now, I really don’t like to tell people I carry, and I especially don’t like to tell them exactly where I carry my firearm at. I was also carrying during this conversation in a gun-free zone and didn’t want to draw a lot of attention to that area of my body, so I simply said that I carried in a holster inside my waistband and that there wasn’t really any way that the gun could just “fall out”. One of the other students jumped in, asking if they stated what kind of gun it was. The professor said “no” and asked whether or not that would be a factor, admitting that she didn’t have a lot of experience with guns. We then went on to talk about controversy/weapons in retail settings, what could be done about them, etc.The whole scenario made me feel really uncomfortable and I feel like everyone else thought it was kind of weird too. I’m a pretty quiet guy, I’m a halfway decent student and I don’t think I come off as particularly threatening. I know we usually try to keep our CCW off-the-radar, and usually I agree, but I saw it as an opportunity to normalize gun owners and possibly answer some questions from people who simply hadn’t ever been exposed to it. What do you guys think? What would you have done in that situation? What would you/should I have done differently? via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2VsqBHG
