Local company for first holster?

I am just getting into CCW and will be applying for my license tomorrow. I’m a bit overwhelmed with holster choice, and have no idea what position I would wear at. (IWB I am assuming.)The other day at my LGS/range, I was recommended a holster line by a local guy who is a member at my range. They are Kydex and have a nice snappy retention (I was picking up my carry gun so he let me try it).My question is should I go with a local company for my first try? The customer service could be “hey meet me at the range” even though he has an established website and online ordering and such. Wondering if anyone else has experience with this sort of thing. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2sv0OB7

Looking for a fixed blade knife for my EDC.

So I’ve been carrying a pistol for a little over a year now. I’ve been thinking lately about getting a good knife. I have a folding Buck knife that I wear sometimes. But I definitely think there is room for improvement.I’m looking for a fixed blade knife for sure. If any of y’all have any suggestions that would be great. I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to this topic. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2kF9Ho8

Nightstand gun setup questions

Hey all,First, sorry for the wall of text and excuse my newbiness to this world - I'm just starting to delve in. Anyway I included a TL;DR at the bottom if it's too much text.I'm trying to figure out how I can optimize my nightstand gun setup. I have the poor man's Glock - AKA the S&W SD40. But I love it. I've fired like 300 rounds at the range so far, no jams/problems yet.I have a flashlight addon for my SD40, which I think is a necessity in an HD situation. I was storing it in my Pelican case, under my bed. Loaded, but no round chambered. Seemed like a fair setup for a while for me.Maybe I've read too many 2A-enthusiast posts, but I'm more leaning towards the idea of having the pistol within arms reach at night, as opposed to having to feel around for the latches for the case, opening it, etc.So I've started storing my SD40 in a Kydex holster, inside the nightstand drawer, with the flashlight detached (doesn't fit in the holster.) I keep the mountable light addon right next to the holster, as well as a backup flashlight. Again, mag loaded, but no round chambered. I feel it's best in my case to either: Store it in the nightstand, in the holster, with a round chambered - Or: In the nightstand, no holster, but with the flashlight mod attached. Some people seem to like simply placing it on top of the nightstand, but I want it to be out of sight. I live with 2 housemates that I trust and there aren't any children roaming around however.Last concern is moisture... in my nightstand drawer I also store my meds, and my retainer, which can have moisture, esp. after being cleaned. I've heard of people storing guns in their bathroom and/or shower, so maybe I'm just paranoid about a negligible amount of moisture, but I put a cheap desiccant in the drawer just in case but I really don't want to risk my pistol getting rusty from that.TL;DR - I want a balance between arms-reach accessibility to my firearm at night, personal safety against NDs, and proper storage to avoid rust; will a retainer case with a bit of moisture be sufficient cause for concern, even if the gun is periodically oiled? What is your guys' recommendations for a nightstand setup, given what I have? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2JnGZXf

Looking for opinions on the smallest of .380s(LCP II, Keltec, Kahr, Kimber Micro, Sig 238, etc)

So, for background, I'm a range safety officer. I've gottent the chance to handle a shoot a lot of guns, and when it comes to larger carry guns, I'm quite fond of CZs and 1911s. I regularly conceal a P-01, Rami, and Colt Commander. As the weather heats up in my part of the country, I start going to the gym/walk more frequently, and I look for other employment I'm beginning to realize even the compactness of the Rami doesn't meet my needs some days.I'm looking for something I can carry, potentially in pocket, that I'll be effective with if need be. I've fired a Kimber Micro and Glock 42 before. I find myself far more effective with the Kimber. I've also shot an LCP II once and shot a 1in group at 5yds, though I found it to be a bit more on the flippy side. Otherwise, I love the feel the internal hammer gives the trigger, and the Kahr, while not being as pleasant(from dry firing only) seems like a decent alternative as well. I have yet to shoot a 238 or Springfield 911, though I imagine they'll be similar to the Kimber. Honestly, I think I'd be most comfortable with the Bersa Thunder, being used to DA/SA, but it's a bit large for what I'm looking for. I'm hoping for input from anyone who has experience with a few the smaller .380s out there to give me some comparisons. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2IZEbAb

[Permits] Finally Joined the Community (additional question in comments

https://ift.tt/2skpVrg Everyone,I know everyone is sick of these, so I decided to add an additional question that I wanted to post along with it. First:- Broward County Florida- Submitted application in person on 5/16. Permit received in the mail on 5/29- Glock 26 w/ a PJ's IWB kydex holster- I did my training (2 hours class here in Florida) on 5/12.- Really happy overall with the process in Florida. I would recommend scheduling a time to submit in person at least a week before you take the CCW class. Submitting in person makes the process MUCH faster, but you need to make an appointment a few weeks in advance. My additional question is that I've been using a normal gun cleaner (I forget the name of the brand but it specifically says gun cleaner) but I always get this residue afterwards that I have a hard time getting off (you can see it in the picture). I clean off the cleaner after I am done cleaning the gun but I still can't get it off. Does anyone else have this issue? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2xtzV6B

Where to submit Denver County Address Change Form?

Where do I need to go to turn in an address change form in Denver? I was issued the permit in Denver at the DPD Administrative Building (1331 Cherokee), but the address change form is to be filed with the Sheriff.I can't find anything specific to the Sheriff's Office on Denver.Gov, and there's only a PO Box listed on the Sheriff's Office Website. The Address Change Form doesn't list any address or instructions, either.Do I go back to the DPD Administrative Building where I did all the other paperwork, even though the Sheriff's Office isn't located there? Or should I just mail it to the Sheriff's Office P.O. Box, and if so, do you receive confirmation that they've updated your address? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2IZhgRm

New to IWB Carry and having issues please assist

Been OWB open carrying for quite a while now with a Safariland 7377 7TS ALS holster. I usually carry at night when walking the dog. However the neighborhood I'm in has gone to hell and with the homeless issue and crime coming with it (Think burglaries, armed robberies and strong arm robberies) I want to start carrying IWB Concealed during the day. I have a CPL and currently own a Sig P320 Compact 9mm. I just received a desantis pro stealth via amazon yesterday and I'm having a hell of a time.If I wear it at 12:30 I can't lean forward / bend over to pick up after my dog when he goes potty. At 3:00 wear I wear the Safariland OWB it feels like something is being jammed into my hip and walk feels not fun and awkward. If I wear it at the 4:30 - 5:00 position this it where it feels the best however if I bend forward to pick up after the dog or tie a shoe my shirt and jacket come up and over the gun and rest on the grip same thing if I am to sit down only it doesn't come all the way over the grip but kinda goes in between the grip and my back and you can surely tell I'm carrying.Any thoughts or suggestions on what I can do to alleviate this issue would be greatly appreciated. I also am waiting for a Sig P365 I ordered which I'm sure will help (Any suggestions on holsters for the p365 would be appreciated).FYI im 6'4" about 220lbs a tad bit of a tummy but overall kind of skinny (not sure if this is why I'm having problems). I also don't like the way kydex / plastic feels against my skin so if a different holster would be what solves my problem leather or fabric is more to my liking.Thanks. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2L6Sdwb

VP9SK leather holster? Or just go kydex? (recommendations, safety, longevity, etc.)

I usually carry a Shield 9, 3 O'clock with 15-degree cant. I can get the same holster I use now (DeSantis sof tuck) for my new carry, a VP9SK, but most of the ones I see are kydex.I've never used a kydex holster. I hear that they wear on your gun quite hard and aren't as comfortable in the waistband. So I was looking to go leather...but my SK doesn't have a manual safety, so I have some safety concerns with holstering it into a leather holster. I don't really know if they're warranted though.Thoughts? Opinions? Anyone carry a VP9SK in a leather holster? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2L9Rf2y

Good brands / sources for good CCW shirts? Full size duty pistol

My SO carries to & from work with a Blackhawk Serpa or something like that holster. She also carries doing errands etc. I'm not sure how to politely say this, but her body shape leads to easy printing. Narrow hips, for a lady. Relatively speaking. She's fine with her sub compact, although some cooler shirts would be nice.We have nice OWB snap shirts etc, but they're pretty beefy and hot now.Her only Hawaiian shirt plus her height, walking style, and general demeanor (not fixable) makes her look like an extra off Dexter or Miami Vice. I don't think people notice much, (some do) but I'm going to worsen my hernia laughing. Makes it easy for her "clients" to pick her out, too, which could be annoying at best. On the other hand, I can spot her in the grocery store at a distance. This would all be OK, but the shirt is crap and is very hot.So I'm looking for some OK Hawaiian-style shirts or other suitable non-T shirts that can't be seen from outer space and are pretty roomy, while being very cool in the upper Midwest summer heat. Proven ability to handle a bit of sight banging around, sights don't wear through, no snag in and out of car, allows in-car draw easily (she unbuttons). That kind of thing. In a land of gangbangers car-jackings etc.Brands, sources? Under $30 would be nice. I can find Hawaiian for $80, that's just a bunch for a shirt in our little world. Thanks via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2snxRHh

Need a new belt, looking for something similar to OpenBelt from Black Arch.

Back when I got the belt I'm pretty sure i got the wrong size. I think I need a 32 or 34 but I got a 36. Question about self defense

So I am 19 so I can not get my permit for another 2 years but I plan on getting it and carrying. Recently there was a post on r/AskReddit asking for stories about people acting in self defense. A lot of the replies talk about people being sentenced for Involuntary Manslaughter because of lack of CCTV or witnesses. Now I am not sure if this is the correct way to articulate this but when you shoot someone (in self defense), is it assumed that it was manslaughter/ murder and you have to prove it was self defense or the other way around?I don’t exactly know what answer I am looking for but the whole idea of being wrongly sentenced when acting in self defense makes me a little uneasy so maybe some of you can provide some insight on this.Edit: I do not plan on carrying before I turn 21 since that would be illegal I am just a teenager looking for some answers before I turn 21. The main reason I ask is because I do want to learn the legalities and do training before I turn 21 to make the transition easier. Also I am in Miami Dade County, FL. But I don’t know how relevant that is since I might be moving after I finish school. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Jh7r4z

Help with Home defense against aggressive intruders

I had an odd encounter today at home, and I'm trying to make sure I'm prepared for the possibility of a future intrusion. I want to make sure all my bases are covered so if anyone has any advice at all it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in university and live at home with my parents and 19-year-old sister. Today two strangers came to our door and initiated an encounter that gives me reason to believe they may return to attack us.

I know they likely won't come back, but I'd really rather be over-prepared here. We've locked all our doors and windows and the entrance to our back yard, and removed anything that could make an improvised weapon from the front. We have a dog who would start barking if anything was up, but he's old and probably wouldn't attack an intruder. We're in Canada, I applied for a firearms license over a month ago but it's still processing, and owning/using firearms for self-defense here is verboten. I have a 4" half-serrated knife under my mattress that I'm fairly confident in using. My sister has a can of dog spray, and my parents have bear spray and a baseball bat. We all sleep with cell phones so we can call the police if for some reason the home phone is out, not that that would help in the moment.

Is there anything we're missing, or any other advice any of you have?

It should be noted the vehicle was distinctive and the police are patrolling the neighborhood tonight.

Also with knives, my understanding is that the best approach is to hold it in your dominant hand in a closed fist, blade out the side opposite your thumb facing forward, and to slash deep while using the other hand to punch or block. Is this correct?

Learn me about belly bands

I want a belly band for when I go running and also to sneak flasks of alcohol into football games when I’m not carrying. I’d be carrying my M&P 9c 1.0 in it. I know very little about belly bands besides that they exist. Is my M&P too big for a belly band? I know they’re normally for smaller guns.I see some of them have a retention strap. Is this necessary for running? Certainly I don’t want the gun to bounce out of the holster. What brand has worked for you? I know holster brands but not belly bands at all. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2IPzepm

Pocket pistols with the best triggers?

Looking for a good small gun to carry when I'm out in the city running. I'll probably carry it with a belly band. At first I was thinking an LCP .380 like my buddy has but the problem is the trigger is a pile of dogshit which makes it hard to shoot accurately when I can only get two fingers on the gun (and that's at the range, not under stress).Naturally I'd prefer a light weapon. I like baby 1911s so a P238 might be an option if the trigger is good.Anywho. What are your opinions on the best triggers in pocket-size pistols? Thanks. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2IPsszT

What are some laws you’d find about DRIVING THRU/AROUND college campuses in states with no campus carry?

California, mass are states where you can get full fledged CCW in certain regions that would be valid for whole state except legal GFZs. WA and Minnesota are shall issue blue states where you still can’t carry on campuses, and hell even Nebraska and South Carolina for instance ban guns in campus. What if you are in the area, just doing some driving tourism, or are a taxi/ride-sharing drivers who drive in a college town and are legally armed?I couldn’t find anything on the web that doesn’t pertain to actually stopping and parking on campus, so what if you get stopped by campus pd, or had to use gun in SD when driving through/around? The states I listed have varying views on gun rights, so I’m not just talking about California. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2J9UFos

AIWB and other people's cars

My understanding with AIWB is that you put the seat belt behind the gun when you're in the car.Except I don't own a car, I use a motorbike for transport everywhere. Which means if I'm in a car, it's someone else's. Most all my friends are gun friendly, but I'm still not sure on some. How do y'all that run AIWB handle other cars when you don't know what their stance is, or if you know they're not exceptionally open with it? Is there some discreet way to manage this I'm unaware of, or just run the belt over the gun and hope to not get in a crash? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2kpVDPw

Question about what happens after using a CCW for self defense.

My CCW told my class a couple of different stories that his previous students told him about what happened after they had to use their CCW for self defense. The stories ranged from 1) The defendant was question by the police after, brought in for questioning, and that was that. 2) The defendant was incarcerated for a matter of weeks until the investigation was complete and he was free to go. Obviously these were most likely very different situations which had different endings. I was just curious to know if there is a standard procedure of how the police handle a person who had to use a CCW for self defense. I would like to hear what you all have to say about this or if you have a story about your encounter after a self defense situation. Thank you. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2KUhiKZ
