The Glock 19 of Kydex IWB holsters

So after checking out the FAQ page on the sidebar, I gotta say I’m a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of brands of holsters. To simplify this, I need to ask, what is the hivemind’s idea of the Glock 19 of iwb holsters? Most people when they ask for a first carry gun, people will automatically say “Glock 19”. Is there a similar holster(s) that would fit that same role, in it being universally recommended and praised, to be the best choice for starting out? Some points that might help:Body type: leanWanting to wear either appendix or at 4 o clock via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HURoKx

Dog the Bounty Hunter is looking for me near the quarry outside my house. I need help getting away.

I quickly need as many methods as possible to slip away from him. I’ve set up a basalt barrier on my back porch so that he can’t get in from there. The front door, however, is off its hinges. The basalt was too heavy to push that far so for now I’m going to spill some olive oil over the floor and hope he slips.

God I’m so scared, I am defecating all over the floor. I had to take my pants off so not to stain them but I’ve ruined the upstairs and now my wet feces is dripping down the floorboards.

Oh god he’s down there. Oh god he’s tasting the wet feces and looking up, staring through the cracks in the floor board.

Please help

Vanity - is it causing concealment issues?

It seems that many of the CCW "printing problems" people post here are directly related with the way they choose to dress. I understand that more snugly fitted clothing are stylish at the moment, but it can be a real chore to work around that issue without compromising someone's ability to carry an "adequate" handgun in a manner that allows quick access. In other cases someone's job may dictate what they can wear, but that's usually easy to work around without resorting to a "mouse gun".Even though I'm an old guy and could get away with wearing baggy and unfashionable garments, I still dress neatly even when wearing casual clothes and my CCW guns don't print. If you have printing issues, is it due primarily to your personal sense of style? If so, can you find a compromise that fills both needs?I post this as a topic for discussion, not as a criticism of anyone's personal sense of style. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/321WRqj

Carry ammo?

Just curious to know everyone’s carry ammo. In this day and age of ammo shortages, I’ve been doing what everyone else seemingly is and buying what I can get. Texas carry class wasn't legal?

My carry class did not include proficiency training. We went straight to the range and shot, everyone received "pass" even though most targets looked like they were blasted with buckshot from 20 yds. Then to the classroom, where the instructor told the class every item that would be on the test, along with "the answer on this one is A" for a commonly missed question.Texas law (see below) states you must receive proficiency training AND shoot to show proficiency, but the instructor stated that by registering for class you were promising you were already proficient.Sec. 411.188. HANDGUN PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT. (a) The director by rule shall establish minimum standards for handgun proficiency and shall develop a course to teach handgun proficiency and examinations to measure handgun proficiency. The course to teach handgun proficiency is required for each person who seeks to obtain a license and must contain training sessions divided into two parts. One part of the course must be classroom instruction and the other part must be range instruction and an actual demonstration by the applicant of the applicant's ability to safely and proficiently use a handgun.Scares the hell out of me to know some of the folks in that class are going to walk around armed... via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3jTQZ8R

I am unlicensed (no FFL) and I am. Not clear on how to legally ship a handgun across the country. In my account, I have the buyer’s preferred FFL dealer information. Do I just pack up the pistol and mail it to the FFL dealer? I am so confused. I emailed GunBroker and they just quote their website. Thanks. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3jKMFsj

A personal revelation that no one is paying as much attention as you are.

So I was standing in line to enter a store, the line was fairly long and my wife and I had been there for about 15 minutes at this point. She brushes up against my waist on my left side and says in a low voice " Oh, I feel your gun." Except I was carrying at 4 o' clock, so she's nowhere close to correct. This is someone who knows that I carry, where and how I carry, and generally what I carry. And when I brought it to her attention, she said that my poorly trimmed gun belt was printing way more than my 4 o' clock ever had. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3jIN5PO

A quick reminder about situational awareness on the road, and maintaining your options.

I posted this as a comment to a post dealing with road rage behavior that was deleted, and I figured it would be good to make a post as a reminder and open a discussion. This is my perspective, as a has-been cool guy that medically retired from the military after getting blown up one too many times. I spent a lot of time doing direct action work, including many, many convoys, vehicle interdictions, and cowboying armored go-fast trucks in non-permissive environments. That's the grain of salt you should take this with. Shooter's preference, ymmv."Never stop so close to the car in front of you that you can't cut the wheels and hit the accelerator. There are few situations when already on the road where drawing your sidearm and engaging a threat is preferable to driving evasively and/or establishing a rendezvous spot with law enforcement. They exist, absolutely - but this shouldn't have been one of them.Even if I'm actively taking fire - I'm taking evasive action, not getting myself decisively engaged in a gunfight. I have insurance to replace a vehicle, but I can't respawn."I'll also add that I'd much rather deal with a few traffic violations from a particularly unreasonable law enforcement officer than any of the ramifications that come with the deployment of my ccw. I'm just a dude on reddit though, like I said - shooter's preference, ymmv.Tldr: Keep your options open. Don't box yourself in, and remember that it's generally a way better idea to stay in a 2000 pound weapon capable of quickly getting you out of a situation and hit the gas, than it is to depart that safety and mobility to step in the middle of an avoidable two way range. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HNbfeL

Everybody in my office bitches about how cold the temperature is in here year round. Newbie Tip: CARRY EVERYDAY

Many of you are coming here for advice, whether it be on holsters or EDC essentials; many of which are objective. But one thing is certain: if you want to feel more comfortable carrying a gun, then you have to carry a gun, EVERYDAY. That is the truest way that you will find comfort in carrying.Does the holster make a difference? Yeah. Is there a best gun to carry? No. Should you take your gun if you’re just running to the gas station quick? Absolutely! Take it everywhere! Going to CVS to pick up a birthday card...bring your gun. Going to the grocery store to grab some onions...bring your gun. The only way to get better at anything is with practice, carrying included. You might think, “do I really need my gun to go to the butcher?” Yeah, you do! Somebody on here said it best, you don’t have the convenience of knowing when a crime will happen. Get comfortable in the short trips to make the all-day carry seem second nature.Hope this helps, stay safe, happy Halloween👍🏽 via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/31TXq5h

Car as a holster - When to and when not to?

I can understand not taking off the holster in town or when generally out and about, but what about on long road trips? I don't want to drive for 3 plus hours with a gun jabbing me in the gut. I drive a Chevrolet Silverado (all jokes aside, save it for another sub) and there is a compartment (on both driver and passenger side, that seems like a good place to wedge SOMETHING to hold the gun. iu (1280×720) (duckduckgo.com)Now that being said, I understand the lack of security in keeping the gun in the car and the legal liability and getting a safe and blah, blah, blah. All the shit you read here every day, this is about being comfortable while still having the thing near you on longer hauls. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HSQhek

Scenario: Small or Average Man vs. Outlandishly Giant Man?

Not sure if this question is welcome here, but I thought maybe some knowledgeable people would like to play!

I am writing a fiction book and have a fight scene between a man who is 5'9" and wiry, vs a man who is bigger than any real human: close to 8' tall, about 500lbs, and built like a strongman--say like Brian Shaw, if he were more than a foot taller. This picture is fake and stupid, but just to visualize the scale: https://www.ballerstatus.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/mma.jpg (if the picture is dead, it's just a small, wiry guy facing off with a giant guy).

Both are just okay fighters: not total amateurs, not outstanding experts.

The giant guy has come to take the smaller guy in, dead or alive. They are fighting for keeps in what is essentially a campsite. They have campsite type objects around, including a camp fire burning, but no really deadly weapons--small firewood, maybe something like a club, or wood "staff" at best. There are no rules, this isn't a ring, they aren't fucking around, and neither is willing to run away.

The end: the smaller guy wins. Maybe the big guy is dead or maybe just incapacitated.

The question: how did the small guy win?

Why carry a revolver?

As a student paying for tuition, for the last year and a half I’ve carried a G2C, budget gun but has gone bang every time I’ve pulled the trigger. I chose it was because the price point but also the ammo capacity. While being a budget gun I still get capacity along with reasonable accuracy, I understand shot placement is key in a self defense scenario but aren’t more rounds available better in any given situation? Not hating on revolvers at all I just want to know why some people prefer them over higher capacity handguns. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HEFGUV

pocket carry life

https://ift.tt/2HJH4VY via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3msyz0u

I could really use some help.

I wouldn't say I'm a new gun owner, but I'm fairly new to carrying a handgun. I turned 21 a few months ago and picked up an M&P Shield 45, got a nice kydex holster, a good quality belt and got in a little bit of range time here and there. I can shoot great. I've been shooting since I was old enough to hold a gun. My first gun was a 22 revolver. My problem I'm currently having is actually a big one. It's gun safety. I muzzle sweep my roommate every now and then not paying attention. It's usually when I'm picking up my gun to move it somewhere, when I'm cleaning it, holstering/unholstering it, or unloading it. I'm well aware it's an issue, and I hate that it happens but I'm not sure how to fix the problem. Obviously the fix is to stop doing it, but the problem is I'm doing it without even noticing it. I can't afford to take a training class as of right now, mostly due to ammo costs (class requires me to bring 150 rounds, and costs 400$), but I want to fix the problem. I never muzzle sweep at the range or if I'm actually shooting the gun. The gun stays pointed down range the entire time. It's only when I'm not shooting that it happens. I'm actually very knowledgeable on gun safety and concealed carry safety, my only issue is muzzle sweeping. The gun is always unloaded when it happens (I know. All guns are actually loaded, whether you think they aren't or not) so I think my subconscious says "it's unloaded, no big deal" but I know its a big deal. Any advice would be great. Also this is a burner account because Im sure this is going to get downvoted into oblivion. I'm just looking for real help. I get my ccw very soon and dont wanna be the idiot that accidentally shot sombody because the gun was "unloaded". via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/31XBR45

Holster Recommendations

Looking to try a new appendix IWB holster for my P365. My big interests right now are TXC and T1C, I've never owned either of their holsters and am itching to try them. Suggestions from folks with similar sized pistols are also welcome. For as long as I've carried it's been a Glock 19 in a Vedder holster, and now the Sig a few times a Sig Sauer holster. Just looking to try something new. Thanks yall. *needs to be kydex, preferably have a concealment wing. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3kFOQ1H

AIWB advice for someone with a bit of a stomach

I'm looking to start carrying soon, but I've run into some issues with AIWB. I am 5'6", about 155 lbs, and have a bit of a stomach. I have a Tier 1 Axis Slim and Vedder LightTuck and am trying to conceal an HK VP9.With the LightTuck, I am able to make my VP9 almost disappear at 1-2 o'clock. However, I am unable to wear the Axis Slim without creating a bulge or having the bottom of the grip print. I bought a wide wedge pack from Tier 1, but even with the XL wide wedge I am unable to press the grip into my body. I've also tried adjusting the ride height of the clips, both on the magazine side and pistol side. Currently, I have the magazine clip lower than the clip on the pistol side.I'll use the LightTuck if necessary, but I would much prefer to wear the Axis Slim. Does anyone have some advice on how to conceal better? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3mBxFPm

Hiking Scenario

I have a scenario for you guys to hear what you would have done.Took my wife and dog hiking to a series of waterfalls one cold snowy day.We did our thing and hiked into the biggest waterfall there that most people come to see. The trails were dead we saw 1 or 2 other people the entire trip & we are very remote. To give a better idea of the falls the hike in is over steep rocks and they were icy and wet. It’s difficult to get in the area and once your in it’s deep water through the middle and also hard to get out quickly. So we made it and are taking pictures and all of a sudden we hear a very loud CRACK and see a rock tumble in the water. There’s a bridge over the top of the waterfall and we see 3-4 college age guys hurling large rocks down at us trying to hit us with them. Mind you the falls are probably 50 feet tall or more. They are hitting the ground near us while we’re trying to run away. But like I said it’s hard to run with the terrain and having a terrified 100 pound dog pulling you scared, and a frozen wife who doesn’t know what to do.I of course was yelling for them to stop and it was hard to see their expressions but I imagine they thought it was funny. However it easily could have seriously hurt us or killed us.It continued and I reached for my waistband and realized I didn’t have my weapon with me because that state didn’t recognize my CCW.So we moved as fast as we could out of there and they stopped throwing rocks. When I contacted the park rangers office they sent someone out very quickly but no one could locate the group. We filed a report and went on our way.In hindsight I’m torn on what I would’ve done if I had my weapon with me? Would I have shot? Would I have been to scared of the consequences to shoot? I was scared for our safety but don’t know how well it would’ve gone in court although I have no duty to retreat in my home state. All I could think of and still think of is the teenagers throwing rocks or bricks off a overpass and killing a driver. It was a unique and weird situation and I’m curious to hear your thoughts on it. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/37SsXbL
