Is carrying more than a single spare mag really worthwhile?

So I’ve been carrying for a couple years and am looking to upgrade my set up a little bit. I love my guns and I will continue to carry the ones I have, but more looking for a new holster setup. I’ve got a lot of recommendations for (insert random brand sidecar double super mag holster-o-rama) and it sort of made me think.Isn’t carrying more than a single spare mag definitely over doing it? Yes you can never have enough ammo, yes I’d rather have too much than not enough, yes I’ve heard about the guy who now carries 100+ rounds because of an experience he had where he needed it.But realistically, as an everyday civilian, is there any logical reason for more than one spare mag? I can understand one in case of a jam, or if you have a gun that only holds a few rounds. But is carrying 36-50 rounds on you really worth taking up your entire waistline? Not at all calling out people who do this, just wondering what the logic behind it is. If it’s a comfort/peace of mind thing I understand, as that is sorta the entire basis of carrying a firearm in the first place.(I carry a ruger security 9, a beretta 92 when it’s cold/i feel like Bruce Willis, and a PPS when I can’t wear layers or don’t feel like putting a big boy belt on) via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2GH8wzV

Big guy with big hands, suggestions?

Hello everyone, I’m planning to get a ccw within the next coming weeks and I have a permit to buy already but I’ve went and felt some already and I sorta like the p365xl feel but It’s a little small, I’m 6’2 250 and want to have something either compact or micro but let me know some suggestions, price is not a factor due to tax return coming soon, all posts I’ve looked at are outdated but looking for something mainly around 500-600, I look forward to reading all the suggestions to go try via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2UgRz7c

Gun Store Story: Open Carry

Someone I know was getting an EC9s and we were waiting for the background check. An older gentlemen, 50s or 60s, came in and asked for a CCW holster and the store was fresh out. He then proceeded to tell the story of why he's going from open carry to conceal carry. He said while he was open carrying some nut tried to come up and steal his gun from his holster, he mentioned it was an alien gear OWB. He told us he had to beat the ever living shit out of the guy and the police almost arrested him for being too brutal. Can't find any news story but this is the first time I've ever heard of open carry going wrong. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2S5iCzS

Carrying not allowed within state parks of which their land is leased from US Army Corps of Engineers?

Just found out a state park I may travel to in Texas has their land leased from the federal government, and the state park office employee said concealed carry isn’t allowed, along with even having a gun in your car. Is that information correct? I guess if the land is owned by the fed government it trumps my TX LTC? Anyone know the penalties of carrying within a state park but technically on federal land? Kind of confused on what laws apply here.Thanks. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2uVTYJN

I'm scared

I'm from Australia and every night I get looked at, touched on the train and made to feel really uncomfortable. The worst scenario someone was charging at me until some hero pushed him in the curb.

I decided I need a non deadly weapon that aren't sold in Australia. I want to be able to disarm someone from a distance and then call for help the only things that come to mind are pepperspray and a tasergun ( that stuns from distance) but in Australia this stuff is all illegal and so hard to find. I'm a physics student and chemist geek. I would love some peoples help ensuring my safety on the way home.

Please PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS SO I DON'T GO MISSING LIKE MY BEST FRIEND. I'M BOOK SMARTS BUT SOCIAL SKILLS IS NOT WHERE ITS AT FOR ME. STARTING WITH PEPPER SPRAY. I NEED A SIMPLE DESIGN ASAP.

Help me stay say.

How do you carry while golfing?

I enjoy golfing but usually when I golf I put my gun in my bag. I know that’s not the best place but every other position either isn’t comfortable or affects my swing. If you golf how do you carry on the course? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2OfYsls

Sig Sauer P365 or CZ 2075 Rami for pocket carry?

Hi all,I've elected to swap out my G42 for something with more capacity, yet still capable of being pocketed. I've glanced over many options but I've settled on getting either a SIG P365 or a CZ 2075 Rami. Who here has experience pocketing either? Is it possible? I want something discreet but capable. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/37FGGzI

WML on only gun?

Hey y’all,I have a Sig P320 I plan on carrying as well as using it for home defense. However, at the time it is my only gun. Would you recommend putting a light on it if it is fulfilling both roles? I fear that it may be too bulky to appendix carry, but I do understand the importance of using on in an HD scenario. Is it feasible to put on a light at night after CCW for the day, or would that be ill advised because it’s better to train with it on or off, not both. Thanks for the input. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3aXxXem

Office Carry Guns

Hi there.I work in a office environment where attire is business casual. I wear a dress shirt and dress pants. I have a Glock 26 and can't manage to neatly carry without obviously printing or having an unkempt shirt that looks unprofessional. What advice does the community have for a quality concealable office holster or a smaller pistol for easy concealment or pocket carry? Are ankle holsters really fudd? Or would you advise one over not carrying at all?I'm familiar with the lcp2, Glock 43, and sig p365. Anyone have experience with these or recommend other firearms for my situation? Thanks in advance. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/36IoF2u

Truglo TFX. Do not consider.

Always looking for a better mousetrap, I had came across these sights a while ago and had been curious but found it hard to find any real decent reviews not including your typical guntuber stuff that I question the honesty of.I finally pulled the trigger and bought some for to test not on my conceal carry, but first on my 2011.After fooling with them in various light conditions for 30minutes, I can say I would never even consider these for a CCW sight. The fiber optics only catch light at a near 12 o clock position, unlike the current novak made fiber optic on my carry. This means that at anything other than noon time you will have the equivalent of regular tri-dot tritium sights. Under weapon light (which is the primary condition for CCW incidents at night) they give you the same black silhouette as regular tritium. This is worse than a fiberoptic which glows brightly from backsplash of a flashlight/weaponlight.The tritium illumination at night is less than the novak tritium 1911 sights I have, which offer a finer dot yet crisper brighter light. They also use a 3 dot system that while simple to learn on than a two-dot, i sight or blackblade single dot combi, does slow down your front post focus. And then there is the length which is double of a tritium or fiber optic sight, that lowers the sight radius on a gun that already is minimal in that capacity and using ammunition that typically requires better accuracy than other platforms. This product seems to have almost all the downsides of both a fiber optic and tritium combined and barely any of advantages of either system.I was sceptical of why the combo wasn't being attempted by other companies, and had a hard time believing it's all due to patent law. I already left a message with truglo that I wish to return them. I wont waste my time installing them for a test. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3aUZk8N

My Defensive Phone Use

About 10 years ago, I was walking home, and I didn't exactly live in the nice part of town. Not the bad part, but not too far from it.One day I'm walking home and about a block away I hear someone shout at me "A-yo b1" as four men started to walk towards me. I kept walking forward, heading towards my home (and a more well lit area), and they were following me. I pulled my phone out, typed in 911, and held it at my side ready to start the call. Smartphone, with a black case. Amazingly, they broke off after about half a block.Fast forward to yesterday, 10 years later and a week before I get my CCW. Suddenly, I realize they saw me pull the small black thing out and hold it at my side and thought I was holding a pistol. One of the cases where no shot had to be fired. I got lucky. Starting next week I won't need luck. And hopefully it'll never come up again. But this is my bit of proof to add to all of this. Criminals are looking for soft targets. Once they thought I could fight back they walked off, without a second thought. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2u4aW8U

Help finding a holster for a 4” M&P Shield 9mm

So, yesterday I bought a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Performance Center 4 Inch Longest Name In The World Edition. I was going to pickup the regular performance center Shield but it wasn’t available without the thumb safety and this one was and I just figured the extra sight radius would be an added bonus, and it was also ten bucks cheaper than the short model. Why wouldn’t I go for that, right?WRONG!Turns out it’s a little harder to find holsters for the 4 inch model. I’ve found one so far that’s a pure Kydex model (from We The People Holsters) but would like to find one that’s either hybrid or cloth if possible. Can anyone point me in the right direction and/or let me know of something more popular that has more holsters made for it which the 4” Shield fits? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/36CGZdr

Reality hit close to home today

Let my stupidity serve as a reminder for everyone- be safe, keep your head on a swivel, and carry: ALWAYS. Period. In the last few months I have gotten sloppy and lazy about carrying around my home. After work and when at home, I have been sloppy about keeping my EDC on my person (SR9c for what it is worth). I have even been lazy about carrying when I walk out with my dog to let her relieve herself or for small walks to the mailbox. That sloppiness ends today!Checking Nextdoor this morning, I saw news that a rape is being investigated less than half a mile from my house! This is just now being disclosed by police a week after the incident was reported. I cannot imagine what that poor woman is going through and how difficult her life must be at this time. She probably was like me and enjoyed the relative quiet of the neighborhood and thought she was safe. Her entire world must be upended and who knows how this will affect her future. My complacency and laziness are jeopardizing my safety and those around me. I have been lucky to not have an incident to this point, but others were not as fortunate. I need to be better citizen for not only myself and my loved ones, but for those around me. I am a poor example of this community. I need to do better. Learn from my mistakes.TL;DR- Don't get lazy. Always carry. Your safety and those around you is paramount. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2RHz6yQ

Sig P365 - How Feasible is Pocket Carry? Holster Recommendations?

For those that own the Sig P365 what is your preferred carry method? For those that do pocket carry, what pocket holster do you recommend?I'm in the market for my first handgun. From the research that I've done, I'm considering both the Ruger Ec9s and the Sig P365, but I'm open to other suggestions.Concealability is important to me, and I'd prefer a 9mm. I'm 6'2" and wear jeans year round, so I'm hoping that pocket carrying these guns will not be overly uncomfortable. If anyone could chime in with their advice that would be much appreciated. I've done a search on pocket holsters, but found so many different opinions. I realize that trying the guns and holsters out for myself is the smartest option, but if I can save money by finding something that I like on my first purchase, then so much the better. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2u33vyM

Had a gun pointed at me. Sharing some retrospective, open to advice

Hello!A few weeks ago I went on a camping/gear test trip with a friend, our route had us walking along the road for 6 miles before we got to our location. We got out of responsibilities late, so we started at night.Walking up the road maybe 4 miles We stopped for a bit, then heard yelling and saw two lights from ~40ft up the road. "Hey" "What are you doing?"I figured they were curious/worried. So I just shouted a hello back and continued to relax. I sat against a tree with my hand in the poncho pocket that held my firearm(sigp365 in a boraii eagle holster)The man and woman came down the street and the guy had a shotgun leveled at us as he approached!"What are you boys doing here?" "Whats in the bags""We're hiking to a camping spot" "Just camping gear""Mmhmm, my neighbor said you were in my driveway, so I'll ask again, whats in the bags, where are you going...You don't look like you are from around here"Long story short he was just very aggressive, clearly believed we were roving bandits. Although he lowered his firearm I did not feel safe.I told him he was scaring us, were were just local hikers, we had no problem leaving, just checking out the stream and taking a break. We'll leave now.His wife seemed to soften a bit, but he just seemed angry, and called the cops. We started walking. Cops talked to us a mile or so down the road. I know my town officers so I suspect they recommended him better ways he could handle the situation. They recognized we were "scared shitless". We declined to press any charges. In retrospect, I wish I had practiced removing my pocket holster from the pistol, while it's still in the pocket. I now have a method to do so. I think this is pretty essential for these situations. I'm also tempted to practice firing from under the poncho. That would have been a comforting skill.I also think it was unwise to tell him that I'm a local who lives just down the street(I gave the wrong street name though). I'm worried he'll hold me mentioning how fuckin' scary having his shotty leveled at us was against us.Any advice you'd give me? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2RDqglO

Question for all my cubby concealed carriers out there (AIWB). low, medium, or high sweat-guard?

M/5'8"/190lbs (and working on losing some of that poundage). Fairly new to appendix carry and before I go out and buy a bunch of different holsters, I wanted some experienced opinions. I went with high sweat guard for my first, with the thought that it would ride above that good ol waist band gut crease. Also, I felt it would help with sitting to keep the gut from going over the pants gat, reducing irritation.Thoughts, opinions, long irrelevant rants, all welcomed via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2GDnLtn

Carrying your gun in and out of the house consistently

Hey all, just a quick question. Is there a best practice when carrying in and out of the house, as in going from hot to cold or cold to hot temperatures? I just recently got my EDC and I want to keep it in the best condition possible at all times, and I know if it condenses it can start to rust. Any advice or guidance is appreciated. Thank you!Edit: I forgot to mention, I cannot carry at work so it stays in my car in a pistol safe until I’m off. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2RFcFus

Ammo information

So I'm new to guns I just got my first gun (Glock 19.4) probably like a month ago now and basically I wanted to know if any can recommend any good YouTube videos to learn about the different types of ammo and the benefits. So like a video that goes over questions like what's the difference between 147 gr vs a 124 gr bullet or the difference between steel vs brass or fmj vs hollow point and what should you carry... just questions like that via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Ob7PCZ

Why do people jump to guns over tasers, etc?

I didn't know which subreddit to ask this in, so I'm here.

Title explains it all. I sincerely and genuinely don't understand chosing a gun over tasers and pepper spray. Am I missing something? Doesn't non-lethal force sound more appealing in a self defense situations? I just don't understand and need a reason why many don't think of non-lethal options when self defense, like home invasion, comes to mind. This all just came to mind recently and I am curious.

“A good and substantial reason”? - A Maryland Law (May issue state)

Trying to get a better grasp on what is considered good and substantial reason. The Maryland state police website refers us to a couple of cases and they even admit to having no official standard to an acceptable or standard level of risk vs one that is elevated. They pretty much require documentation of your life already being threatened or in danger - as though living near Baltimore isn’t considered an elevated risk with the highest murder rates in the country. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2RBDeR2

Appendix Carry? Why?

Can someone explain to me why appendix carry has become so popular? I can't see any of the advantages outweighing the negatives. Mainly having a barrel pointed at your body. Whether sitting down or while drawing. Now don't get me wrong if it gets you to carry, go for it. We need more people to carry. I just don't understand why it is so popular as of late.BTW I carry a P320 C in either a Crossbreed holster at the 4 O'clock position or a remora in the middle of my back and have for about 5 years now.EDIT: I should state it hasn't always been a 320 but I've always carried in those positions via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/38QJOsJ

Text to give gun banning restaurants a bad review?

I really fail to see the logic of guns being allowed outside a restaurant, but the second you walk in only illegal guns can enter. Here in WI, the signs do carry weight unfortunately.Any thoughts on a template for a bad review for these places so they get the feedback (and warn others)?Something like this: “Felt unsafe due to lack of security at the door, combined with a policy of not allowing concealed carry holders to bring in their gun” via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/36GEsyK

Good day everyone. I just recently renewed my carry permit, and plan to start heading back to the (indoor) range regularly. I would like to update my very old protection, so I don't have to rent. Very adjustable belt

Hey all, so the doc sat me down at my last appointment and basically told me I need to lose some weight or I wont be around for very long. I'm meeting with a nutritionist and taking control of it, but now I have a dilemma. I cant afford to buy a new gun belt every time I lose 20-40 pounds, so I need one that's going to be adjustable throughout my weightloss journey.
