Holster options for IWB @ 4:30 Position

Question for what people are using who still carry IWB at 4:30 ish. Most of what I see nowadays are AIWB holsters. Anyone still using things like Aliengear style hybrid holsters? Or are single piece holsters the go to even at the hip and back? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/yUNT453

Should you ever draw your weapon as a deterrent?

I took some ccw focused classes and the instructor was teaching us to draw our weapon in certain scenarios and shout commands while keeping it pointed down and away from the threat. In the past I’ve been told only draw if you’re 95% sure you’re going to send rounds down range. It turned me off at first but it got me thinking maybe there is certain select scenarios where it might prevent you from having to actually shoot someone. Of course, you’re going to give someone a chance with verbal commands before just dumping a mag into them but this instructor was definitely pushing the envelope on when it’s acceptable. What do you all think? Do you do your screaming and yelling “stop commands” and draw at the very last second or draw after the first couple times you tell someone to stop and leave you alone? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/wKo2kup

Holsters from Amazon

I’ve had a $35 holster from Amazon for a few years. Great reviews mostly 5 Stars. Recently had to get a new holster due to getting an optic. I bought a Tenicor Certum 3. 10 times better in every way. Guy stuck his hands in my car window

This happened a few years ago and I was just thinking about this event and what I would do differently. I was driving down Halsted St in Chicago and it was about 15min before sunset. There were some cars in front of me and a stop sign up ahead, so my speed was probably 10-15mph.Around here is where it happened: https://goo.gl/maps/epXW4tvLzFgUsgJf7A work van on the opposite side of the road drove past and then all of a sudden a guy walked/ran into the driver side of my car and smacked the mirror, folding it inwards. I guess he was crossing the street and crossed behind the van and didn't look at the opposite side or didn't see me. After the mirror smack, I immediately looked into the rear view mirror and saw the guy with a dumbfounded look on his face. He walked over to the sidewalk and started walking in my direction.Since several people witnessed it happening and I wanted to make sure the guy was okay, I pulled over to the closest place I could find (the road was lined with parked cars) which was on the next block. As the guy got closer, I was watching him in my mirror and I could tell something wasn't right. He was kind of stumbling and I could tell he was drunk or high. As he got closer to my car, I rolled the passenger window down about 1/3 of the way and yelled "hey man, are you okay? Do I need to call anyone?"I thought he would stop a few feet away and tell me he was okay or injured but instead he got right up to the side of my car, and started putting his hands in the window about halfway between the wrist and elbow and talking gibberish. My SO was sitting in the passenger seat and freaked out and started rolling the window up which ended up ended up pinching the guys hands. She told me to drive away but I couldn't do that with his hands pinched in the window. I told her to stop trying to raise the window and I lowered the window an inch or so and the guy pulled his hands out then I drove away. As I drove away, I saw him walking across the road again and heading the opposite way.I was carrying at the time but never felt the need to unholster it and that may have even escalated the situation.Wow, what a crazy incident and this was one of the "final straw" moments for me that made me move out of Chicago. I thought about what I would do differently and I'm not sure about that. Originally my mentality was to stay in the car because I always think it's better to be in your vehicle than outside. The vehicle offers protection and you can drive away if something crazy happens. Also, based on the guy's body language, I didn't like the idea of getting out.Rolling down the window more than an inch or two was the mistake here, especially with my SO sitting in the passenger seat. If I had to do this a different way, I would roll down the rear window instead or roll down the driver window and make him come to my side. What do you guys think? Would you have unholstered? What would you have done differently? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/k3hQNiE

Looking to get and optic on my glock 17.5, it’s not MOS so I would need a new slide with the cut. Most prices are near the ballpark of a new pistol. CCW question - OR & WA

Hi all, I am looking to get a ccw permit but had some questions. For context, I live in Washington but go to/from Oregon a lot. Work, friends, etcI understand that WA does not reciprocate to OR, but an OR permit would reciprocate to WA. I also see that you can apply for an OR CCW permit if you live in a neighboring state. So my questions:1. Is there a reason for me to get a WA permit over an OR permit? Am I missing something?2. What county would I reach out to in OR for out of state application info?Any info would be appreciated. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/fbtD6cl

Where can I find info on carrying a concealed firearm on the Great Lakes?

I’m looking for information on carrying a concealed firearm on the Great Lakes. I’m in Wisconsin. I would be carrying out on Lake Michigan. WI is a reciprocal state with Michigan. Illinois is not reciprocal but they honor an out of state permit so long that you are traveling though the state in a vehicle. Indiana honors a WI permit and allows permit-less carry.I plan to take the SS Badger from Manitowoc to Ludington this summer, and I also take my boat on Lake Michigan occasionally.I’ve read WI’s DOJ and DNR website and know that I can concealed carry on my boat on inland lakes, but I cannot find (or I’m glossing it over) any information on carrying on the Great Lakes.I assume it may be under coast guard authority, but I cannot find anything in the federal requirements for recreational boats printed by the CG. I’ve read somewhere on Google that the Great Lake you’re on is governed by the state you’re “nearest to,” or something similar to that, but I’m not sure how accurate that is. In that case, I would be fine carrying on both the Wisconsin and Michigan side, as my permit is valid in both states.Would someone mind helping me find this information? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/yw7o3BN

Reciprocity clarification

I live in MD and would like to carry in CO. I know CO does not have reciprocity with MD, but it does with PA which I do have a CCW permit for. However CO has a restriction with PA saying "resident permit only". Does that mean I can't carry in CO as a MD resident, even though I have a PA permit since I'm not a PA resident? It seems like that means I can't carry in CO but I'm asking because all this time I thought getting certain states like PA and FL would let me carry in most other states, but most of those have restrictions like this. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/rAF7NBR

Martial arts recommendation?

Looking for a recommendation for a martial art that would help in a struggle on the street. I would not fight anyone, just looking for a martial art to help me gain knowledge so I could better protect myself with bare hands. Before anyone says anything about running. Yes, I am in shape and have actually taken up jogging as an add onto my current exercise regime. I spend around 45 minutes to an hour daily in the gym. I would rather run away from a fight than get into one, but I’m looking for unarmed fighting skills, should the need arise.I want to expand my tool box beyond pepper gel and a firearm. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/HcD4ySz

Fallen in love with Pocket Carry

I've always carried strong side 3 o'clock. Over the winter, I put on some weight and wasn't as comfortable carrying. So, I fell back to just throwing my pistol in my jacket pocket. It was so convenient and easy. So, I bought an Alabama Pocket holster just to add a level of safety to it. I lost the extra poundage I put on over the winter. But the convenience and comfortability had become unmatched. Now I just put it in my holster and it goes right into my front pocket.I know it's tactically not as sound and I still carry IWB when going out for longer periods of time, but just running errands or running out here and there, pocket carry is just so much easier. I'm thinking of getting a smaller pistol for it. I currently carry a CZ 75 P01 Omega🤣. So the top of the grip sticks out of my pocket a little and it prints like a mofo, but a bigger shirt to cover the grip and I pocket carry everyday and love it!! But the way, nobody notices or has said anything. People aren't looking at your pocket. No one cares.I even forget I'm carrying sometimes. And in the car, for longer trips, I don't take it out like I have to when I'm strong side carrying due to the beaver tail on my pistol sticking into my side.Feel free to roast me! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/651lvFt

The House Judiciary Committee voted to block rule on stabilizing braces

Can someone explain what this means? Is this all it takes? Does the ATF have to comply with House Judiciary Committee's ruling or does it need a full House vote?NAGR just posted about it and I found this story:"The House Judiciary Committee advanced a joint resolution Thursday that would block a Biden administration rule to strengthen regulations on firearms with stabilizing braces. The 23-15 vote along party lines on the measure is the latest confrontation between GOP lawmakers and the administration over actions to address gun violence and mass shootings. The rule from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives would require gun owners before June to register pistols with stabilizing braces that turn them into short-barreled rifles. Other options for gun owners include surrendering the firearm or taking off the stabilizing brace from the firearm."https://ift.tt/Gh5CdYs via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/kRoXyeT

Update on North Dakota?

So apparently North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum signed HB 1339 back on April 13th, extending constitutional carry to nonresidents as well as I've heard others claim that it legalized permitless open carry as well instead of requiring a permit for it. What's reasonable in defense of property?

Just wondering what everybody's position is on this sub-reddit on defense of property from criminal mischief or theft, assuming that these situations occur in a stand your ground state. I've checked out r/CCW for a while and don't really like their view that you can't defend property at all without being considered an aggressor. If you carry a weapon, but still chose to confront a thief or vandal, as long as you don't brandish the weapon or threaten them with it, there shouldn't be a problem. If while struggling with the thief he pulls his own gun shouldn't you still be justified in defending yourself? the thief or thieves chose to steal from you, then when confronted, they escalated it to armed robbery and possibly attempted murder. You didn't go and commit a crime on their property, they came to you and then never attempted to withdraw in good faith when confronted. What's your opinions on defending property?

Threatened with a knife, im concealed

I live in a city with Stand your ground and Castle Doctrine.Biking next to this other biker. He started talking shit for absolutely no reason, so i asked whats wrong with him. He got more mad and followed me down an empty street. The aggressor cut me off and stopped right in front of my bike, causing me unable to continue biking. He got out and we got into a back and forth until he threatened me with a knife. He put his hands in his pocket and I reciprocate. Except i have a gun. He flips the script as if i was trying to start trouble and then continues to want to start a physical altercation. He didn't step forward but he was 5 foot away from me. At this point were both on our foot, my hand on my gun and he wanted to provoke me.Minutes go by, hes not advancing. So i grabbed my bike and rode off. Should i have stood my ground and wait for him to ride off because i was left in a vulnerable position with my back turned since i biked off? Would it have been better if I told him hes gonna get shot if he advances and wait for him to walk away since he stopped me? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/o0Dm27q

Legal carrying in Vegas

Hello, Family road trip to Vegas and I wanted to find out if there are any metal detectors at Casinos, planning to carry (as usual) but most likely in backpack as we have stuff for our kids to carry as well. I have heard of some camera that can detect weapons when carrying on your body, but not sure if it’s in a backpack. My CCW is valid and I understand to leave if asked by the property security, just as I would anywhere else. Never had any problems carrying in other cities, just curious about these thermal cameras and maybe hidden metal detectors. Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/Aej1bNG
