I know I can't be the only one thinking about Eliza Fletcher, God rest her soul. I would like to hear from women who have actually escaped similar real life situations by fighting back effectively against a much larger, stronger attacker. I have been training in black cat kenpo for several years and have learned a good deal, but as a petite 120 lb woman have no delusions that I could successfully fend off an attack such as she faced.
I am an avid hiker and while I've never felt threatened on a trail, I do carry a noisemaker (mostly for calling for help in case of injury in areas with no cell reception, but also for deterring an attack), I also frequently take hiking poles (on the steeper trails, not always on more level ones) which could potentially cause damage if necessary. I have also started looking into the 'Go Guarded' product line as well as at various pepper spray, taser, etc, devices.
However it's hard to know which device or strategy might be the most crucial in a real life situation with only seconds to react, which is why I would love to hear from women who've successfully fought off a much larger and stronger attacker. How did you do it? When in an actual, potentially life or death situation with only moments to respond, what made the difference that enabled you to escape or disable your attacker?
