Can you parry bare knuckles & is it recommended?

I've seen it in boxing but I don't know if you can do it without gloves in a street fight. Looks like it could hurt more since you have no cushion. Still seems like a good self-defense technique if it's not ideal without gloves. At least you have the option.

As in the title, there are a lot of places (college, work, bank) that don't allow you to carry, however I do not feel good about leaving my firearm in a lock console or glove box. PDP mag jamming

Hey y’all. Just ran into an issue with my PDP Compact where I went to put a loaded mag into the gun and the magazine got jammed, with the first bullet pressed against the slide ramp, just barely beneath where it usually is to properly load the round. Mag release didn’t work (mag just stayed frozen in place), so I had to manually push (not hard, but still…) the mag out from the top of the open slide. I troubleshot, reloaded and ejected a bunch of ammo (no firing though, I was at home) and no issues last night after countless repeats of loading, racking the slide, ejecting and cycling ammo, and then putting the mag back in, but then had the same issue this morning when I checked my gun before holstering it as my carry weapon. My only thought is that both times I’ve had that issue, I was reloading fairly hard (like an aggressive slap on the bottom of the mag because I’m paranoid about not having the mag in all the way), but I’ve done that sort of reload many times before without issues; does heavy force cause that jamming/failure to feed? I’ve only put like 300 rounds through it and have cleaned it, so I don’t know if it’s a break-in issue or if I, as someone that is new to striker fired pistols, is just smacking the mag too hard for no reason when reloading? Thoughts, advice, etc would be appreciated! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/V40QJ13

Question about pepper spray gel...

I'm wanting to get some pepper spray gel...I prefer it over the spray because of the further distance and no blowback. Plus I like that it stays put once it lands and doesn't get all drippy! :)

However, someone said that the gel took about 60 seconds longer than spray to take effect! This makes absolutely NO sense to me...they are made of the SAME ingredients, why would that happen!?!

I googled for info to back that claim up, but found nothing. Just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this or has any knowledge about it?

Thanks!

ACRO vs RMR Printing?

I currently carry a stock Glock 19.5. I’m looking at getting it sent to have it cut for an optic and I’m choosing between RMR and ACRO. I want the ACRO but I’m worried it’ll print worse and this is a dedicated carry gun. Is there really a noticeable difference in printing between the two optics? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/B4mD2tF

Question about choosing a CCW as a OTR Truck Driver

My fiancée and I are currently PA residents and we both have our CCW Permits issued from there. We also both have our CDLs and drive a semi truck in all the lower 48 states.I have been wanting to get each of us a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield M2.0. Recently I saw that S&W released the M&P Shield plus, almost the exact dimensions with greater mag capacity. It looks awesome, but as I travel all over the country I'm not sure it would be the best choice to have with us when we have to go somewhere like CA, NY, or MA.I know we wouldn't be stepping out of the vehicle with it concealed in states that don't have reciprocity with PA, but I don't know what the legal line is to being able to transport a 13+1 or 15+1 capacity firearm into those restrictive states, or how much trouble we might end up in if we have to use it to defend ourselves from within the vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I haven't settled on a weapon for everyday carry yet. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/kscmf7u

Best outcome with overly handsy drunks?

Scenario: a dance club, an annoying "friendly" drunk near the front door. The club has security staff. Me and my wife there together. I had a black belt in TKD in high school, but that's been a long time ago. My wife doesn't have many self-defense skills.

The drunk comes up, getting way too close to comfort to me and my wife. After about 4 seconds of this, and him making no sense, I get between him and my wife. I put up my hand and he backs off, like he's walking away. I turn around, pulling my wife away, and the drunk manages to sneak back in, touching her on the arm, maybe lightly grabbing her arm. We pull away. He goes on to bother someone else.

Was that a failure? A success? I feel like I failed because he was able to move in and touch her when she didn't want to be. I took my eyes off the ball. What do you all think?

  • I could have pushed him away if I'd seen him coming.
  • My wife could have been prepared to get behind me when there's an aggressive man.
  • I could have hollered for security and gotten them involved.
  • I could have knocked him to the ground or incapacitated him.

I mean, what are the right actions and best outcomes? I don't have the same confidence of being able to move people around like I could when I was in shape.

Knife attack self defence tips

When in the process of a knife attack, what is the best way to defend yourself when you are cornered, physically slower or weaker/not martial arts trained. Whether the peruser is a muscular or athletic person, multiple or whatever variable, I don’t mind. I’m looking for all possible scenarios like schools, trains, store robbing, street muggings, house invasion, etc and how to properly defend yourself and maybe people around you(even ones you don’t know). How to defend a baby, elderly and obviously yourself. Knife attacks are rare here but it’s possible everywhere where kitchen knives and box cutters are sold. We aren’t allowed pepper spray or other forms of self defence here and fake knives, still illegal also has the threat of the pursuer being reckless enough to fight back. Violent options isn’t recommended but if it gets to maim the target or incapacitate them fast, that’s allowed. I know you can or other people get injured and I know you can’t save everyone, but for the killer I don’t care for their life, I just don’t know how to kill nor want to go to jail.

Ps: I’m paranoid since a knife attack occurred near me earlier

Adding a rule for limiting the number of EDC posts? (Poll)

This question was asked on other post. By user /u/6769626a6f62 I was curious to what most this community voted for. I vote no. Because I enjoy seeing other people's EDC posts. From said post & user.I messaged the mods about adding a rule for limiting the number of EDC posts, since there's already a sub for that and they just kind of clutter up the front page (in my opinion). All those in favor respond to this comment or upvote I guess. The mods requested I post here and if it's popular they may implement something like a weekly pinned thread or allowing EDC posts on a certain day.View Poll via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/MJUV2BP

Best martial art for someone short & skinny

I'm a 5'7 guy and I'm pretty skinny to make matters worse. I want to learn a martial art that will make me feel more at ease going into uncertain situations like walking alone at night (I don't live in a safe place).

Just need to know what martial art should I learn that compliments my small frame, and fits my needs for self-defense in the street.

I'm thinking Muay Thai from what I've read, but I'm not sure. Can anyone weigh in? Thanks all:)

When do u want to get closer 2 avoid punch?

From an opposing strike. I hear people say something about closing the distance against your attacker so they can't throw a punch. Sounds counterintuitive but I guess it makes sense because you take away their range. Not sure how to do it though. Thats where I need help and an explanation.

Can you buy 2 Guns at once?

I don’t want to ask a dumb question but I turn 21 soon and I’m excited to start my collection and I want to buy 2 handguns to start off. I have a lot saved up, I have money put back towards training, ( I’m starting the process to getting my enhanced carry permit as soon I can ), I live in Tennessee and here it doesn’t require a permit to carry. As long as you’re 21 you can walk in and walk out, the guy I talked to at the gun store said all I need is a valid license and that’s it. But anyways I have money put back for training, ammo, holsters, and the fire arms itself. I’m getting a Glock 19 Gen 5 and I plan on keeping that one at home and I’m also getting the Springfield Hellcat for my EDC. I just want to know if i can just walk in on my 21st birthday and buy both of them. It seems sketchy to me I don’t know. I appreciate anyone’s feedback! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/MisguaW

A short review of the Tenicor zero belt

A short review : 2 weeks with the Tenicor zero beltI’ve had my Tenicor zero belt for 2 weeks now. I previously had a belt that can’t be named Buffalo leather belt that was nice, but the super bulky buckle made it print just as much as my gun. Which speaking of, I carry a CZ P-01 omega everyday in a neptune concealment triton 2.0 I’ve slightly modified. A pretty hefty gun and not the easiest to conceal.I looked at the blue alpha belt but didn’t like the idea of loud ass Velcro everytime I wanted to adjust it or use the restroom. The ultimate goal was a very sleep/comfortable low profile belt with an easy to use small buckle. I was going to get the nexbelt appendix but this came out just a bit ago and seemed well liked so I gave it a try.Honestly, I’m a bit shocked at how well it works. As previously mentioned I carry a fairly large/heavy gun and despite being thin, this belt supports it extremely well. I was under the impression you needed a typical super reinforced gun belt but not at all it seems. The buckle is made out of aluminum and I THINK anodized black, it may be painted but it hasn’t worn away. It’s small enough I can slide buckle through belt loops and move it anywhere I want, and it lays flat. Because of the design, no need to mess with a keeper either. The sizing is spot on, they say to order your pants size and it’s true. I was worried I wasn’t going to have enough room to be comfortable but I ordered my size and had about 6” of spare belt to tuck though. It’s such a simple design and seems extremely well made, but obviously I can’t speak to longevity yet. I like that it’s essentially infinitely adjustable, but it is a bit harder motion to get down than just hitting a button. My only con is the price. It was about $65 shipped for such a simple belt. Obviously it hasn’t been done yet, and it’s made in the US, but for a bit of webbing and a buckle I think it’d be a much better value around $40-45. However I was looking for something very specific and this fit the bill perfectly, so I paid up. If you’re looking for a very low profile belt without loud ass Velcro, this is probably it for you. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/FdEYpTn
