"Dont worry about printing, no one notices except other gun carriers."Hang around a gun forum long enough and you'll see someone say that.Know who else notices? Criminals!Buddy and I was out an about a few days ago doing some research for a new concealed carry book and we conducted a little unscientific study. We just sat on a bench for one hour in a very populated area and just observed. While I already knew this, taking time to actually look for it really hammered it home...People suck at concealing. One guy was about 300lbs and had what looked like a cheap walmart belt on with a Glock 43 hanging out of it in some cheap holster. Didn't help his shirt was so small and tight and it hardly covered his gun and kept riding up and exposing it. Plus, he seemingly had no situational awareness. That is what some criminals would call a "free gun."Another guy was obviously rocking some sort of sidecar style holster. How do I know? His shirt was damn near skin tight.Third guy I seen was carrying a large gun owb under a looser fitting Hawaiian shirt. The gun was too big and shirt to small which made it obvious. The guy, however was very fit, and had good awareness. He caught me taking notice of him and I seen how his demeanour slightly changed as did his direction of travel. That along with some other observations tells me he likely had some training. If I was a criminal I would not target him.Throughout the hour we both easily spotted people who were not concealing well at all. Most of them also had zero awareness and some seemed flat out careless. If I were a criminal looking to score a gun, several of these people would have lost a gun that night.Biggest thing ive noticed is that these people wore their shirts overly tight. If you wanna conceal, it helps to not have a skin tight shirt on. That said, even with a medium sized gun and a smaller well fitting shirt it can still be decently concealed if you use dark colors, a GOOD gun belt, and a proper holster that isnt junk. For appendix use both a claw and a wedge. Also helps to be in shape.I noticed a few older guys rocking what was obviously pocket pistols too. If you are going to carry this way be sure to get a pocket holster that breakes up the outline.Seen three people open carrying. One was an older guy carrying a 1911 in a cheap leather owb holster. The second was a younger dude with glock 19 in a cheap Blackhawk owb holster. The third was a older dude carrying a LCP in some ratty looking leather owb holster. Why someone would carry a LCP openly is beyond me...Criminals will often notice and you likely aren't concealed as well as you think. For most of us our bathrooms arent as bright as the outside world and your gun shows up better than you might believe.Take some time and effort and really see just how well you conceal. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2YBZmgt
