As with any hobby or lifestyle, things can get expensive. Does anyone have any advice on ways to save money while still being able to protect yourself?

For example, what is overhyped or unnecessary in your opinion? Are there certain times of the year where guns and accessories are cheaper? Buy online or in person? Do some states have killer fees?
