Fox labs, Sabre, or POM. Which is the best?

I'm looking to get myself a new oc spray at the moment. The brands I'm considering are fox labs, sabre, or pom, because they seem to be most trustworthy and respected oc spray brands. But I don't know which one I should get. I'm leaning mostly towards fox, because I've heard it burns like crazy compared to others brands, but I still don't know which one to pick tbh.

If anyone has any advice to offer I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for reading:)

Solution for pepper spray on a motorcycle

I'm going to be travelling way down into the wilderness on a motorcycle, and I want to bring some pepper spray. Wondering how well they tolerate vibration and being knocked around, because I will be travelling through very rough and bumpy terrain. Last thing I want is to end up covered in the stuff while far from help. But, I need something to protect myself from bear and people. So I'm going to buy several small containers for defense against humans as well as a larger one for bear. What would you reccomend?
Hopefully I'd like to carry this stuff within easy reach, maybe mounted to the bike or inside my jacket or on a holster. How would you do it?

Wearing the cup?

I am a 22 year old guy who has been in Krav Maga for 4 years.

Recently my gym started up a women’s self defense class/clinic. I signed up as it pays around $125 per class to help at. I’m one of the attackers for the women.

In regular Krav class, a cup is a cup. But now, they’re making me wear the one they provided me to wear under my padded suit. I was told it’s required because “it’s certified crack and shatter proof. and meets the minimum thickness for the plastic hardshell cup”.

Is this normal for the attackers? Why can’t I wear my own cup?

Conflicting Advice, NYC Self Defense

I was born and raised in NYC and the past few days have been hot with random men punching women in the street. The women never see it coming.

What sort of self defense would work best in these situations? I’ve searched in this thread and the suggestions are super conflicting. Some say pepper spray, others say it’s not effective. Some say taser, others say it doesn’t subdue enough to create time to get away.

Thoughts?

Worried of dangerous dogs attacking me

Recently my neighbours large dog unprovoked attacked my other neighbours small dog and its owner causing the dog internal damages, however they did not press any charges meaning the owners have essentially gotten away with not properly training their dog (which has killed 2 sheep unprovoked before also).

Due to the repeated actions of the dog and the lack of punishment i worry for my saftey and also my dog's. I am very skinny and doubt i could overpower it, but I cannot stop worrying about being mauled or my dog being mauled.

What can i do to ready myself in case of a situation to ease my mind.

Should I continue training BJJ or switch to MMA?

My goal for martial arts is self defense. I believe MMA is the best style for this goal. I have been training at a Brazilian jiu jitsu gym for about 6 months now and eventually I want to transition to an MMA gym. I am concerned that i am focusing too much on sport jiu-jitsu and am learning the wrong techniques. I enjoy competing with my current gym, love the people there, but don't think it is the ultimate path for me. I have heard there is a difference in mma jiu-jitsu techniques and sport jiu-jitsu techniques. I was told to train both striking and grappling separately. I am not sure if I should continue training at my current bjj gym and cross train muy thai or i am better off switching to an MMA gym. I have also heard that many MMA gyms have a bad rap. You become mediocre at both striking and grappling, and many gyms have a meathead mentality where injuries are commonplace.

Self Defense Video Recommendations?

Hi, I'm looking for self defense videos recommendations for someone with minimal time to watch. Maybe some 10 minute videos that share good quick techniques and things to keep in mind? This is to share with my female friend in her 30s who is a case worker that goes to people's homes. Sometimes it's in shady areas and I'm trying to help her stay safe. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Most Attackers Are Loved Ones

How many people are discussing the fact you're most often going to defend yourself against a loved one, not a stranger? Like, if you're getting assaulted, odds are it's your spouse or child who does it, not a burglar. When we get into street fights, it tends to be with cousins or acquaintances who just got angry at a gathering.

Has this influenced your selection of self defense methods at all? Do you have nonlethal options if you are attacked by a person you genuinely don't want to kill? Have you ever considered the possibility you'll have to use any means necessary to survive against a relative or friend?

Hi. I’ve got a friend who lives in a city where both pepper spray and tasers are outlawed, even for self defense. There has got to be something better than wasp spray. Rapid Induction conversational hypnosis.

Hi, I'm in a hurry to get to work but I want to get the ball rolling on this: Anyone interested, can we talk about induction techniques for self-defense?

There's a term "pattern interrupt" salespeople use to get the mark out of the pattern of resisting sales. (They tried to teach me how to do it when I joined the La-Z-Boy sales team in my 20s, and I got fired for not selling any furniture.)

But I remember a saying by Mitose, "When a man tries to fight you act like a dog, because a man doesn't fight a man the way a man fights a dog." What he meant was: The guy will not know what to do. Even better than acting like a dog is acting like a penguin, because people seriously do not know what to do with that at all.

And tell them you love them. For real. Other people have said it, and they didn't mean it but this is now and you are you. It's true when you say it.

And then bunch their throat. But if it doesn't come to that, it's possible to take someone into a trance. In a high intensity situation that's when people are hyper responsive to suggestion and habitual patterns. So you can get him to actually sit down. When you say it at the right time, he sits down. I saw it happen. It's funny and great, and it de-escalates everything if you sit down with him, and now you're both sitting on the floor talking.

My motive here is entirely self-serving. I have a thing I sell, and part of the way I sell it is to give an example and part of the example is to have this fukn page where I share rapid induction conversational hypnosis to help people out of negative self-talk AND/OR to make people feel confused if they try to test you.

I subject myself here to the hecklers who don't understand, because I want to learn whatever crap you are willing to share with me about the best ways to do sick language patterns and body language for rapid trance induction.

How do I learn to defend myself?

hello so I´m a 17 year old trans man and Ive never really done anything to learn how to defend myself or stay fit in general. Ive always been behind in my PE classes and im generally below average in strength (my arms have almost no muscle I cant even carry grocery bags most of the time. Its always bothered me and made me feel dysphoric, but i dont know where to even begin with making myself stronger and gym trainers are way too expensive for my family to afford. Today I got harrassed and groped by a bunch of local kids and I felt like there was nothing I could do to stop them, one of them had a knife and they were all stronger than me threatening to beat me up and stuff. I dont even know if im asking in the right subbreddit (i rarely ever use reddit) but i really need to know how I can get stronger so that if push comes to shove I can not be groped and at least not look like an easy target anymore but I really dont know where to start, i dont want to beat the kids up or anything i just want to look like someone that they wouldnt be able to win a fight with. anything helps, thanks.

PS: sorry if this is poorly written im not a native english speaker and also pretty shaken up by the incident. I also dont want to ask family and friends for help because I feel like its embarrasing that I call myself a man yet fuss over something like this and i cant just move past it like a real boy would

Self-defense path questions for a young girl

Hi everybody - I’m a dad to an 18-month old girl. No siblings and none planned. It might be early in the game, but one thing I would like to encourage is self-defense classes from an early age. Her mom and I are both 6’2, so she should grow up to be a decent size, but neither of us have ever trained and I don’t know where to start. I would like to get an idea of an appropriate pathway of classes once she’s old enough (I need help with that too!)

There are several martial arts studios near my home that I can choose from. What sort of class should I begin her with? What should come after that? I’m hoping to put her on a path that keeps her interested at least until she’s a teenager.

Are there any instructors/experts/parent who have been in my shoes than can offer me some advice?

Anyone here familiar with Indecline’s RIOT STICK?

Got this a few weeks ago before they sold out, and just today accidentally “unlocked” the riot stick so it is now stuck in telescoping mode.

I’m mainly looking to understand how the lock/unlock button works. I also would like to know what the charger port is for & what kind of charger it requires? I have batteries in it already, does the charger port do anything that batteries don’t…?

I don’t know how to use this properly in general right now, and would love any guidance, feel free to PM if necessary for your anonymity.

My abusive ex just got locked up and I am heavily depending on this as a tool of self defense if he gets released instead of sentenced this week.

I greatly appreciate any guidance, thanks everybody.

How to improve reflex

I was walking with my friends in the pavement. We were totally 5 including me. A guy was coming opposite to us (maybe 23-27 yr old). He had a travel bag in his hand. As soon as he came near me, he swing the bag purposefully and hit my chest.(It didn't even pain). He didn't even turn back to say sorry or didn't even bother to see me after crossing me. He just walked casually after hitting me.

I couldn't get angry on him, which I should've and should have returned him back. I didn't even shout at him "Hey..." or anything like that.

In my mind, I was thinking 'Why did he hit me?'. Amongst the 5 of us, 3 of us were walking in the 1st row, 2 in the second row. He didn't hit the 1st row guy near him and chose to hit me. I was thinking, 'why me?'.

I didn't even get the reflex to move away from the bag while he hit me. I was thinking, 'why'. 'What would have happened if he had a weapon and harmed me??'

'Amongst the 4 ppl, not 1 honestly stood up for me, why'

'I should've hit him, why didn't I do that'

'When I don't stand for myself, how can I expect people to do that for me'

self defense tips if I'm in danger of being s/a

About a month ago made it out of a potential sexual assault after going out. It was a guy I believe more or less my age (18-19) and he was really drunk and grabbed mi wrist and pulled me for over a minute up a street. I was also a little bit in the effecets of alcohol so it took me a dreadful minute of figuring out how to escape his grip which was pretty strong. I didn't struggle and waited for a distraction (some other guys up the street started screaming gibberish) and used this move a friend taugh me of pulling down pretty fast (he was grabbing me from above so by pulling down most of his fingers lost grip of my arm) and basically ran without looking back. Pretty scary, haven't left the house while dark since this happened. I hate remembering this happened but I really need to learn some useful techniques to escape grapples both standing up and laying down so that I can feel safe going out again. I get that it might be specifically hard to defend myself in my case (I'm a woman, 165cm tall and weight 45kg, but I train frequently and I know I can do at least up to 10 pull-ups without exhausting myself a lot), but that's exactly why I'm looking for techniques that focus on escaping rather than an actual fight. Any practical moves I could practice? I don't care if they're hard to master, I just need it because I refuse to go anywhere at night without knowing I have a chance of saving myself in case I encounter a sober, old man who is double my bodyweight. I was lucky that the guy that grabbed me was not very strong and completely drunk

by the way I own a pepper spray, the kind that you have to actually aim at the target because my city is pretty windy and i don't want the spray getting into my eyes. I tested it's range once and I believe it can cover efficiently about 3 meters. More distance than that I wouldn't trust my aim while in a fight or flight state

Looking for personal opinions and those with actual mma/karate, etc... experience for a couple of things. Do you think certain people without training are just hardwired genetically to be a better "fighter" or those who have "heart" can be more capable at defending themselves on the street without serious training? Those who have been bullied and had tough life growing up and developed the will and so-called "heart" are more likely to be able to defend themselves?

Self defense on a cruise

My family and I are going on a cruise (Royal Carribean), with a destination of Labidee, Haiti. Due to current events in Haiti, I wanted to have something for self-defense. Cruise doesn’t permit any overt defense items, but was wondering if anyone had any tips for this? Been looking into a G10 blade, but worried the shape will still pop the X-ray machine.

Best chance I think of getting something through would be a G10 sharpie poker, but don’t think it’s super practical. Anyone have any experience on Royal Carribean with their security?

Please suggest some alternatives to pepper spray.

Starting next month I'm moving to the Countryside to stay with my friends for a while.

Unfortunately, we live in an area where there are groups of wild stray dogs, as well as bears and wild boars hanging around. Most dangerous of all was a road we had to cross in any case. There was a factory-like warehouse where the landowner kept a wolfhound to watch the door.

Because that dog doesn't stay in the yard, it chases walkers and cars. So I thought I might need something to deal with the unexpected.

But knives and clubs are illegal, and alarms are useless in that environment as no one is there. And the only thing that would work is spray, pepper spray is illegal but I'm thinking about the possibility of insecticide or industrial grease, I wouldn't use it with a lighter.

So do you guys have any suggestions?

Or maybe I should just cancel the trip?

"Sting Ring" - Taser Ring

the thingy in action

After watching Kingsman, I was intrigued by the concept of a sting ring. I couldn't find any compact wearable tasers resembling it on the market (for obvious safety concerns). So after four iterations of design, I managed to build a device that I believed people would like. I gutted the core components of a taser from Amazon, I built the rest of the ring around that.

I don't recommend this device in a genuine self defense situation, its meant more as a scare tactic. I thought it was a neat little thing people could build if they wanted to.

The links for everything are on thingiverse here

If you have any questions about the project, feel free to message me on instagram @ nav.labs

Thoughts on Pepper Spray/ Mace Guns?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of if a pepper spray gun, such as the Salt brand, would be effective against either animal or human attackers? These basically give you 7-8 rounds of pepper spray balls that are shot using c02 cartridges. You don't need a CCW for them and I was curious if they were effective or if anyone has any experience with these?

Grabbing someones wrist

Is there a method of grabbing someones wrist which causes them a lot of pain while doing minimal damage? Ive tested a few variations on myself such as putting my thumb in the nerve cluster on the palm side of the wrist (middle of your wrist between the two bones) but it didnt give the desired effect. It did make it very difficult to move my hand and fingers in any way for several minutes afterwards and was the most painful of the techniques I tried, which would be helpful, but again I would like to prefer causing less actual damage. Ive been in scenarios where this would have been useful, and while people do already tell me that I have a strong grip, with them sometimes claiming to experience pain from it, Im unsure whether it would be enough.

Self defense items that are TSA approved?

Hi all, I'll be doing my first solo trip to NY in a couple months and I plan to see a couple broadway shows at night. This means I'll have to walk back to my hotel alone at night and even though I specifically chose a hotel in a more public/crowded area, I'm still a little nervous about walking alone.

I know that we're not allowed to bring self defense items while flying so I wanted to ask what other items or tips I can use to protect myself? For example, I've seen suggestions for carrying mini hair spray instead of pepper spray with you. I've also seen suggestions for bringing a key chain alarm and a bag of quarters. Ideally, I want to bring acrylic knuckles but I don't think I'd get past TSA with them. So I'm looking for alternatives like the ones I listed.

Any suggestions?

Self defense protection against knives for neck?

What kinds of self defense protection are there against knives for the neck in particular? It seems that the neck is particularly vulnerable to knife attack. I have seen that there are "slashproof" scarves but I doubt that they do much. Do you think that these scarves would be of any use? Any other ideas?

Best Self Defense for Felons

My fiancé is a felon for some unfortunate stuff. We live in a shady neighborhood in Colorado, but I carry and protect us 99% of the time because I’m not a felon. We’ve had a series of men approaching her at night in the driveway, weird dudes banging on the door as soon as I leave the house to go for a gas station run in the evenings, amongst other things. Literally no one knocks on our door when I’m home, but I think people watch and wait till I leave and come up to the house when my truck pulls out. I picked up a wildfire job that will pay enough to get us out of this area, but she’s going to be by herself all summer. What can I do/help her with to make sure she’s safe on her own while I’m gone? I’m gonna get us ring cameras, and she already carries pepper spray, but I’d appreciate to know if there is anything else to have some peace of mind during the wildfire season.

Monkeys first pressure testing?

Hey does anyone have sparring /pressure testing clips of something with one of them monkeys fist keychains? I know they were used historical and were one of those so common at the time they weren't explained in any of the records, and im just genuinely curious on how they're actually used that isn't explained by some mcdojo grifter trying to sell one

Thanking in advance, and I'm honestly thinking about doing my own tests with a sock stuffed with rags or something else soft

Using laser pointers against attacking pit bulls?

Title. I recently saw YouTube videos where people were getting pit bulls to chase lasers around. Would this work if they were off leash chasing after a human being? Like using the laser to get them to run in an opposite direction?
