In big crowded social gatherings is it just the booze or is there a lot of messed up people in it?

For whateve reason certain crowds don't make me feel comfortable. I feel like any false move could start something. Yes alcohol might be a big factor but I just get the feeling that some of these people bring unresolved pain with them regardless. I don't trust people.
