Capability or Comfortability/Concealability? πŸ€”

Just as the title says, what do you go for in your EDC?I chose capability and found a way to make an acceptable level of comfort possible with my G45/G19 I carry year round. Belt & holster are the keys to concealment in my opinion. I rock a Blue Alpha Hybrid with a T1C Xiphos v2 and have no trouble concealing in just a shirt and some shorts. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/rZBXHL6

Motorcycle jacket and gloves for self defence?

Can a motorcycle jacket protect against unarmed or knife strikes? Can the motorcycle gloves hard part act as a boxing glove and deal more damage?

Self defence against dogs (tools and techniques)

I'm an avid cyclist, looking for ways to defend myself against aggressive stray dogs. How would you defend yourself in case of a dog attack? What tools and techniques would you use?

In the past I have been attacked by a pitbull while I was out riding. The attack happened very fast, the dog came from the bushes, I had no chance to spot it. I had no chance to defuse the situation or escape, so I had to fight. The only tool which I had was my knife. It was a very traumatic experience to end a life this way and I was injured too. I want to avoid situations like this in the future.

If push comes to shove I would like to avoid hand to hand combat with a dog. My legal options regarding "ranged" tools are either pepper spray or nonlethal noisemaking gas gun (9 mm P.A.K). I'm not sure that getting a carry permit for a gas gun would worth the hassle, or how could I carry while riding.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

TXC vs Tenicor

I’m looking into new Holsters as I want to upgrade to something a bit more smaller and more comfortable than my T-Rex Arms sidecar for my full size pistols. I’ve noticed that for subcompact pistols my sidecar does what I need flawlessly but the compact and full size pistols holsters suffer tremendously. I’ve dumbed it down to these two and I wanted some opinions and experience with the two companies. Feedback appreciated. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/Q6YexOT

New Holster? Enigma or Tenicor?

Looking to upgrade from Vedder Light Tuck with my P365 - Birthday gift to myself.Overall the holster isn't bad, I just feel that I should be able to get a bit more comfortable and conceal a bit better considering the size of the gun.I've stayed away from the Enigma mostly because of price but once I added a new Zero belt from Tenicor to my cart its going to be more than the Enigma.Which one should I order? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/gSTyt3u

Not quite a rant. How about a tempered observation which falls squarely between passionate and nonplussed: Stop selling civilians short

It seems every time I come across a self defense shooter vid without backstory, where the defender shows composure and skill, both narrator and commentators confidently assure everyone that the defender must have a military or law enforcement background. Why?This is not my personal experience. In fact, my personal experience is exactly opposite of this.I understand that my personal experience within my limited network is anecdotal, but I've also got some sound logic and (hopefully) coherent reasoning to forward my point... so please at least hear me out.I have more than a handful of friends who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. Every single one of these guys will wreck me on rifle. They can all run further, most can grapple and choke me quickly, I don't even want to think about knives (yuck... messy), I'd get stuck like a... nevermind. You get the point. I want to say I can ruck with them, but probably not.BUT... I can out shoot every single one of these guys on pistol every time and every day of the week. Any scenario they draw up other than slow shoot 25 yard bullseye as they wink at the target like they want a date. All of my civilian friends can destroy them on pistol too.Not because we're bad ass operators or "natural" pistoleers or John Wick devotees... we can outclass them at this one thing because we have thousands of hours more training on pistol than they do.The government only has 24 hours a day to turn these lads into killing machines, and frankly, teaching them to fight with a pistol isn't the number one priority. It's probably not in the top 10 for them.I posit that civilians who take the responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon for the sake of protecting their family, their community and themselves, will almost always put in the time to learn how to do that one thing really, REALLY well.Of course this is a generalization and surely there are dumb ass civilians. And more despicable there are lazy ass civilians, but I am confident that most of us take this responsibility very seriously, and more so, we find it fun. This is an easy thing to get good, and stay good at. Especially when training feels like play... even when we're grinding. Now onto cops. There's not as many of these in my personal network, but the ones I know are literally the worst. They did and do the very minimum that is asked of them on pistol. They don't even like pistol. They take whatever the department gives them and put in a holster until they're told to take it out and prove they can put a hole in paper so they can go write more tickets. Now, there's going to be cops just like us, where pistol is their hobby and they dedicate their own time and resources to being good like we do... and we're going to be on the same level. But that still leaves a huge chunk of cops just going through the motions making it statistically more likely for the civilian carrying a gun to be better than the cop.TLDR: Civilians who carry are putting in ultra focused hours to be great on pistol.Cops are a 50/50, they could be as dedicated as us or they could be going through the motions, making civilian shooters more likely, on average, to best them in fighting pistol.Military is the best. They do it all... but learning everything means many of them don't find time to get to our level. The next time you see a vid with a defender showcasing amazing skill, make sure to tell everyone that he's certainly some average Joe who worked really hard on his own time and dime because it's probably true and better yet, the average Joe who isn't currently carrying is going to see it and think to himself, "Hey! I can do that!".. AND HE'S RIGHT. HE CAN DO THAT. All it takes is proper training andD E D I C A T I O N via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/l4KdQOS

Street fight (self defense), what to do after?

As the title says, for instance if 1-2+ people approach me & I have no choice but to fight & end up winning just enough to keep them there, do I just walk away or call the cops? The reason not to just walk away is fear of retaliation. Can you give me an answer if there were or were not any witnesses? Could I be charged with assault if I won with no witnesses? Also, If I got beat up bad, is it a low chance the perpetrators even get punished?

Moronic Monday - Feel free to ask anything relating to CCW. October 24, 2022

Ask away. This is a judgment free thread where all questions are welcome, no matter how idiotic they may seem. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/O4ycT7e

Feedback please.

Ive never discussed this openly and want to share my experience. This occurred 10+ years ago and I have been legally cleared in the US. A post detailing an event was shared and I responded with the following. Let me know if you have an informed opinion or any questions.

I don’t think there is one singular answer to “How do people recover from self defense killings?”. I have recovered from my situation (and with minimal professional help), but it took a long time.

Over the years I’ve come to know a few people who have had more violent/traumatic experiences and needed more time to get back on track. Not saying anything other than the situations people go through and how they recover are almost as wide/broad as the earth. Just try and help someone if you ever see them in a situation that you think might show up on this page….

Specifics on mine…..

I was in college in a southeast metropolitan area (I paid $75/month for a bedroom and access to kitchen of a nice house in a questionable neighborhood).

Nearly a year to the day of moving in, a guy comes through the living room window, screaming. The lady I rented the house from (in her 70s), came screaming into my room. I threw her into the bathroom near my room and did my instinctual best to figure out where the guy was in the house (it was a large rectangular house with a hallway that ran the center - so I didn’t know if he might approach from in front or my left.

After a minute or so, I see him in front of me, wielding a large piece of glass from the broken window, threatening to cut me if I don’t let him use the phone.

As this exchange continues, he is inching closer to me. At the same time, I have a shotgun that I’m aiming at him and “cocking” in an effort to intimidate him. I guess he didn’t realize that I didn’t have any shotgun shells in it or immediately available.

Maybe it was 15 seconds and maybe it was 45 seconds, but at some point I found a shotgun shell and within a half second I loaded it and shot.

He fell back and I heard him scream and ramble into the dark/living room. I sat there in the dark for 2-5 minutes (no bearing on time) waiting for him to pop out again and attack me. Next thing I know, the sheriff department is outside the house, guns pointed at me, telling me to go open the garage and let them in. They made me drop the shotgun and walk to the door unarmed, except for a baseball bat.

Never will I forget, walking across carpet and almost slipping because of how much blood was on the floor. I made it to the garage and let the sheriffs in. They cleared the house and turned all the lights on.

The guy, who ended up being on multiple drugs, found his way to a spare bedroom that only had a small sun window (maybe 8”x14”). There was an insane amount of blood spread across the walls (suspected because he was trying to find a light switch or window and it was pitch black). Somehow he made it through the back window but bled out in the back yard.

You don’t forget details of killing someone.

For years, at least 6-7, I would occasionally “wake up” to a large spider crawling on the ceiling. As soon as I would focus on it and see what it was, it would jump from the ceiling to my face. Thankfully, I don’t see it as often any more but the 1-2x/year I do,

Close call. Where should I start?

I'm pretty large and my body moves the way I want it to, so generally I'm not afraid of much. But my partner isn't terribly fast, and I was nearly in an altercation with two men who I believed intended to rob us or worse. We noticed and were able to swerve them, but it was too close for comfort. I think they intended to wait until we opened our door to shove us in so they can follow and lock us all in together.

I could probably have handled them if they weren't carrying anything, but I hate those maybes. I want my partner to have enough time to get away. I don't want to carry a gun, my partner doesn't like them. Should I learn Krav Maga and get a knife or something? How reliable/effective are tasers and the like?

defense against pepper spray?

Im trying to figure out if there are any ways to defend against an imminent pepper spray attack, like if you know someone is about to pepper spray you but it hasnt happened just yet. When looking this up 99% of the results is to poor milk or shampoo in your eyes AFTER you've been sprayed, or how to use pepper spray on someone else. I did manage to find two answers to my question:

  1. wear a resperator and eye protection, which isnt really useful because I obviously dont actually know if/when I'm gonna be pepper sprayed.

    1. The more exposure to pepper spray you have the more manageable the effects, which was probably just a troll.

So does anyone know of ways to defend against this? Obviously the best defense would be to turn around and run, but what if thats not an option? Could I simply cover my eyes and nose with my hand?
