People who have Fired their gun in self defense, does the volume of the gunshot affect your ability to fight?
Loud sounds scare me, but not so much when I am making them. I am still curious, if I need to defend myself, should how loud a gun is be a concern? Could louder = better in psychologically stopping a threat? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2N8p7Bj

It might be an odd niche, but I'm looking for a good iwb holster for model 15. I've got a one size fits all leather duty holster I got with the gun but isn't very practical for concealed carry any good recommendations are much appreciated. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2wwuFfz
Question Regarding Anxiety and CCW
So I'm a college student in NY. I went to a doctor a few years ago for a minor illness and as we were talking she asked me about my exams and if I was nervous for them. I told her I was feeling anxious about taking all my exams snd was worried about my grades, after we chatted a little bit she left the room and came back in with an anxiety questionnaire. Some of the questions on this quiz we're about being anxious about getting good grades and doing well on exams. So naturally I answered yes and she ends up perscribing me an anxiety medication. I never took the medication because I didn't feel had an anxiety disorder just general anxiety regarding final exams. Im worried that if I try to get my CCW in NY that they'll deny me for being prescribed an anxiety med. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation or have any insight? I want to apply to get my CCW but don't want to waste the money if I'm just going to get turned down for someone like that. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2N4p9u0

the time that providing after hours short may have saved my life
It was suggested to me that i should crosspost this here. This is that i posted in tales from tech support...I will do my best to anonymize this story as best I can. This tale goes back to my time working for a local government. I was a member of that organization's helpdesk. As a helpdesk employee, there was generally no overtime or after hours work. When your eight hours for the day were up, you were done. There was one exception. The helpdesk provided IT support for city council meetings. These meetings started at either 4pm or 5pm and happened three times per month. A typical meeting might last 2-3 hours, but some meetings went on for 8+ hours. They were always on the same weeknight. This was not that weeknight. My girlfriend had called me and expressed an interest in going to see a movie with a friend of ours. I got off work at 5pm, but our friend worked until 6pm. My girlfriend and I had planned to grab a light supper before the movie. My boss came in at 4pm and informed me that there was a budget meeting starting at 5pm and since it was my turn in the rotation, I would have to cover it. I called my g/f to let her know that I had to work late and I had no idea how late it would be. She decided to go hang out at her favorite coffee shop a few miles away from the theater until I could let her know what was going on.The meeting was relatively uneventful. The video streaming software that recorded the meeting crashed a couple of times, which was not unusual. Otherwise, the meeting went off without a hitch and actually ended around 6:30. I let my g/f and friend know that I was now free and made my way to the theater. City hall was much closer to the theater than either of them and they both needed a little time to get ready, so I was sitting in the parking lot of the theater on a conference call with them as we tried to work out what movie we were going to see.We finally decided on a movie and ended the call after maybe 10-15 minutes. I was tasked with buying tickets for us all so that we wouldn't have any delays getting in to see the movie. I was maybe 20-30 feet from the ticket counter when the doors burst open and people running out. It was surreal to see these people moving QUICKLY, but with very little sound. The only thing I heard people say was "Get in the car!". I stood there for maybe a second or two trying to process what was going on when the person whose car was closest to me got close enough for me to hear him telling the 911 operator that there was an active shooter.I turned and ran back to my car to tell my g/f and friend NOT to come to the theater. Each of those calls probably took 10 seconds or so. By the time I was able to start my car, the first police car had rolled into the parking lot.My friend later asked why I hadn't gone back in to help. Besides being an IT tech, I'm also a firearms instructor and concealed carry instructor in my state. I asked him how he would differentiate between an active shooter and a good samaritan with a concealed handgun permit. I asked him how the police entering the theater would know whether *I* was the active shooter or a good samaritan with a concealed handgun permit. My wife still believes that fate presented me with some unexpected overtime to prevent us from being in that theater... via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2LKHbfY

Thoughts on .380 pocket carry?
Hey all, just wondering what everyone thinks of a .380 pistol for pocket carry. Or even if a .380 is a round worth carrying? Specifically a Keltec P3AT if anyone has experience? Was trading in a crap Remington rifle, and debating between the Kel-Tec, A Smith Airweight, or a Ruger Predator so i'd still have a hunting rifle. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Prp8xZ

Just got my card in less than two weeks. I love being a Virginian, born and raised. After I got it the court even laminated it for free.
No photo because screw that.Weird: the day I submitted my application the person at the desk said it was an unusually busy day for permits, close to ten submissions by early afternoon, and I live in a country well into the bottom half of the population count in Virginia. Anyone else notice a trend? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2wxDDs1
Anyone here carry the PT111?
Looking for a new "budget" work gun. Double stack 9mm is my preference. My job is dirty and physical so my goal price is under $300, that way if it gets damaged Im not sitting on a $700 paperweight. The G2C seems to be at the top of the list but I wanted to see if there are any other suggestions. Thanks guys and gals! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2LIZan0

Light for a subcompact: TLR6 or hand held?
I'm considering getting a weapon mounted light to use with a subcompact pistol (Shield and G26). I could get a 100 lumen TLR6, or just use my hand held light with a Thyrm (360 lumen Surefire G2X).Is it worth getting a 100 lumen WML, especially since I have a more powerful hand held? How to decide on a carry location
I've been carrying for roughly the last ten years. That entire time has been with a P3AT in a DeSantis Nemesis, so I really know nothing about holster carry. I've decided to switch to a P365 both for capacity and power reasons. This change means I can no longer pocket carry and have to get a big boy holster. How do I determine not only what holster is right for me, but what body position to carry? Is it a matter of finding a place that sells holsters and trying them out? How do you do this when you'll just be trying it on empty?I did look through the FAQ and read about the different positions. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Ph569c

My New P365 Experience
I got an August 11 manufacture date P365 on Monday from Bass Pro. I cleaned and oiled her up, and went yesterday to put the first ~175 rounds down. I was firing the 115g 250 round UMC range pack, as well as some Federal Aluminum 115g Aluminum cased rounds. I did shoot 20 rounds of Federal 135 g. HST as well.Out of all of this, rapid firing and trying to limp wrist to induce failures; I had none. I did forget to check spent casings for primer drag, so I'll have to check the next time I'm at the range. The trigger is precise. You know exactly when and where it's going to break, and the take up is great, as is the reset. I'm a novice shooter (2k rounds total), only bought my first gun in May; but I was shooting 4-5" groups at 21 ft with about .75-1 second in between shots. That's probably not impressive but it probably is just as good or better than I am with my HK.The only problem I did have was that the mags were very hard to stuff by hand. My only other gun is a VP9SK and I didn't have those issues with the brand new mags from HK. I will keep them stuffed and report back to make sure they've softened up by the next range trip.Overall I'm really happy with it. I gained 2 rounds over my VP9SK, all while being much more compact and concealable. I'm a pretty fit guy that likes to wear slimmer clothes; so this is a game changer for me because I have not been carrying because I'll print in the shirts I wear this summer. Here is Nutnfancy's video he published yesterday saying the same thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=14&v=iR7PQilrhcEI don't care if you wouldn't trust this firearm in your EDC. I don't care if you don't like Ron Cohen or Sig. I don't care if you stay awake at night thinking about primer drag and broken striker pins that have been fixed by now. That is not the point of this post, so please do not post here if that's what you came to say. I'm only here to document my experience. I will not carry this until another range trip or two, but I can't wait until that day comes. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2PkWhex

As a bar manager, please don't do this.
Look, I believe strongly in the right to conceal carry, even extending to reasonable public alcohol consumption.I have no problem with CCWers carrying a concealed weapon when you're out and having a good time. Two things have happened to me this year that I want to tell you guys about. The first was an older biker dude who is honestly a cool guy and a great regular. However, within a month of the Parkland shooting, he came into my bar strapping a full sized gun to his hip in open carry. I would imagine it was a political statement of some sort.My town in Oregon prohibits open carry. I sympathized with him and said hey, I'm passionate about guns too (which I don't talk about around work), but open carry is illegal in this town. He retorted with "open carry is legal in Oregon"Yes, it is, but I wasn't going to explain municipal presumption to him, I just made up that it was a company policy, and asked him to conceal it.The second was less confrontational but even more annoying. I was checking the ID of a young ~20 years old man, which I am too. His ID was chipped and damaged. As far as our alcohol governing body is concerned, that is an invalid license and we need to deny a sale.I bend it a bit and allow people (that I reasonably believe are of age, but young enough to be carded) to know that they need to have their ID replaced or I wont accept it again. This guy (again, mid 20s), I advised his license was damaged and I am generally not supposed to accept it, he laughed at me and showed me his concealed carry permit saying "how about this government issued ID"Like fuck dude, I like guns but I manage a lot of petite female bartenders in a left leaning town. They could have been severely intimidated by you for no fucking point, I just gave you a reasonable warning and was going to serve you anyways.Come on guys. I don't think you have to be puritanically sober to carry a gun. But don't look like a fool, for my sake. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Nx1tLS

OWB in a Suit ...
Curious as to how many of you that wear suits to work also carry an OWB holster? What position works best? I usually carry at about 5 o'clock but I sometimes worry that the flaps of the suit coat in the back will get caught on the holster and expose it, so I find myself constantly checking my lower back to be sure the holster is covered. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2wrvztI

Which holster is your favorite/go-to?
The holster I use 99% of the time is the Dara tuckable with claw attachment, given so generously to me by my best friend. I really only use holsters with the claw attachment now; it does wonders in terms of concealing. The Dara holster is for my PPQ SC. For my Glock 19 I got the Orion holster w/claw attachment and snap loops from Dark Star Gear. For my FNX 45 I got the Delta holster from Eclipse Holsters. My best friend has an Alien Gear IWB holster for his P320 and Alien Gear AIWB holsters for his Shield and PT111 G2c. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2LDok6v
