Gave myself a heart attack.

I was home alone and heard a bunch of noise that seemed to come from my garage. It being late and dark, I went into my garage with my J frame holstered on my waist. No idea what that noise was, but I stepped on some bubble wrap the moment I went in the garage while I was putting my hand near my gun. I had just touched my gun when the loud POP from stepping on the bubble packing happened and for a split second, I expected to have shot myself in the leg. Had good laugh at myself, cleared the garage to look for whatever fell over, and went back to bed. Just another lesson to be careful I guess via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Ucq3Wj

My EDC, a Kahr CW9 with a +1 magazine floor plate. The nice leather iwb holster I got at a swap meet, I don't know the maker.

Be sure to check that your ammo is in spec

Went to load up my VP9 once my holster for it came in the other day. Loaded up both of my carry mags with the Federal HST 147 Gr. that I normally carry in my 9mm's, and went to chamber a round and didn't notice anything. No issues right? I go to press check to confirm the round in the chamber before I put it in the holster, and the slide gets stuck right as the barrel is unlocking and dipping down. Dropped the mag and racked the slide pretty hard, managing to eject the round. Put a different round in the chamber from the same box, and it had the same problem. Went through about 15 rounds, and decided just to leave it and take my old trusty USP40c since I had to run out the door.Get home, start trying to figure it out, and a live round gets stuck in the chamber and the slide won't budge. Managed to pop it out by using the ledge on the sight and a block of wood, with a 5 gallon bucket of sand directly beneath the muzzle just in case. Round popped out. I decided to grab another box of HST 147 Gr. I had lying around, and it didn't have a single issue with that box, the box I had grabbed earlier was just out of spec. I expect that the projectiles were either seated too shallow, or the case length was just a tad long. I had run about 150 rounds of this ammo through the gun before to confirm it worked since some guns don't like the 147 Gr., and it had worked fine.Moral of the story: be sure to function check with the specific box of ammo you are going to be using, make sure it properly goes into battery and cycles properly without hanging up. If I had to use this, it may not have cycled or I may have had other issues. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2UibZec

Gun Belts

I was about to purchase a Hanks Gunner leather belt for CCW purposes but also general use and I was hoping to get some feedback on it or any other belts you guys might recommend. I want leather and I want something that would work with casually but also as a general business casual type of belt in an office environment. I carry AIWB and OWB, primarily a Shield or 2.0 Compact although I may also use it with heavier revolvers in the woods on occasion. The Hanks Gunner belts I’m looking at are in the $50 - $60 range depending on thickness. One thing I’m specifically wondering is if heavy leather is enough or I’d be better off with something that has a reinforced core. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Hy3HK2

My neighbors had an altercation

This is more or less a question on my behalf. I’m not sure if this is the right flair, if I’m incorrect please direct me to the right place. Thanks. My neighbors were outside working on their vehicle, when a guy flew past them speeding and almost hit them, they yelled “slow down!” and the guy stopped, yelled some profanity then sped off. Within minutes, the angry driver returned with friends and then jumped my neighbor, and were beating him, his brother, and his elderly father. The father retreated into his home to grab his firearm, and that’s when the perpetrators left. Police were informed and everything was caught on camera.I just started carrying, I received my permit a couple of weeks ago, and have been researching the ever living hell out of good carrying etiquette. I am somewhat able bodied, I believe I’d be able to hold my own in a fight, but I also have a disadvantage due to my leg being severely broken over a year ago, I still have issues with it today.I still even after all of my research do not understand when I should draw my firearm. I don’t ever want to have to use my firearm or draw it, my neighborhood is getting worse and worse, nothing like this has ever happened before.I live in a gun friendly state, PA, and in a situation like this, I believe the best bet would be to retreat to my home and call the police. If the perpetrators were to try and enter my home to harm me, would it be justified to pull my ccw?Another situation is if I get jumped and outnumbered outside of my home, say in a parking lot or somewhere, is it justified to pull my ccw if it’s clear I’m losing the fight and getting the shit kicked out of me? I would believe so.I understand 100% that a CCW should be LAST resort. But I’m not sure if last resort is while I’m on the ground being beaten, or unable to escape while several guys are running at me with intent to harm. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Lhe7yw

Utahn’s Beware. The LDS church just banned weapons from its meeting houses. So don’t get caught

I know there are several people from Utah here so make sure you tell your church leaders how dumb this ban is and that you will not comply!https://ift.tt/2HryUOI via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HvIJvg
