I have loved carrying my LCP II for years and I was pretty excited when the LCP Max was announced, as it seemed to me like a straight upgrade. I watched every review and carefully noted the dimensions and even made a little infographic trying to convince myself it was essentially the exact same size, same thickness, even same height when compared against the LCP II with ledge extension, which is how I carry mine. I really wanted to get one and just love it and retire my LCP II permanently.I picked an LCP Max up recently and I've been pocket carrying it the same way I did the LCP II and it just feels ... off. It's a little thicker and I can tell. It's a little taller and I can tell. I acknowledge that everyone's different and every pair of pants is different, but it really does feel to me like when it comes to what's comfortable, concealable all the time without printing, and in the realm of "forget you even have it in your pocket", that boundary line is somewhere between the LCP II and LCP Max.I should say my CCW philosophy is a lot like 'minmaxing' in RPG games. I like the idea of getting the smallest possible X that can still accomplish Y, or the most concealable X that still holds Y rounds, etc. That's why I really like the idea of the MagGuts products and I was trying to find one to put in my LCP II right before they announced the Max.My sticking point is that accepting the premise that the LCP Max is "just a little bit taller/thicker/heavier" is the exact opposite of an optimization function, i.e. finding the smallest lightest gun that still works well. I mean, you can say the Max is "just a little bigger", then the P365 is "just a little bigger" than that, then the Glock 43 is "just a little bigger" than that, then the Glock 26 and 19 and 17 are each "just a little bigger". Maybe it's a bit of a slippery slope fallacy, and now I'm definitely just rambling, but that's my philosophy - need to set a clear goal and not compromise on it. With the constraint of pocket carry instead of waist, when optimizing for the smallest gun that still gets the job done, I just don't think the LCP Max fits ... I really wanted to love it, but I don't think I do. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts or opinions on this topic. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3pvuZat
