I offered my Leatherman to my future mother-in-law and the family freaked out

Flaired as a scenario as it is the best fitting.Context: I grew up in a small town in MN where everyone carries some sort of pocket knife. My fiancé grew up in the suburbs in an upper middle-class family. We were on an outing with my to be inlaws celebrating my future mother-in-law's birthday. We ended up stopping at a brewery to have some beers, birthday cake, and exchange gifts. One of the boxes was taped shut so I offered my Leatherman, which at this time was folded. The families response to this, not including my fiancé as she knows who she is marrying and is looking to CCW herself, was shock. I heard comments like "put that thing away" and "make sure you don't go near a school with that thing". This made me tempted to lift up my shirt and say "well then you are going to love this" but for obvious reasons I refrained. I don't know if they know that I carry. My fiancé might have mentioned something to her sister and her mom, but other than knowing I have guns I don't think the family is really aware. My fiancé and I found the whole situation to be quite humorous. She had previously mentioned that I have an AK that I train with to her grandparents. To which they then presumed that I was a school shooter. I had a conversation with my fiancé discussing how she needs to be careful of what information she discloses for that very reason. She completely understands but since it is such a big part of my life it is hard to not talk about it.Any of you guys deal with stuff like this? It is baffling to me that a multi tool could cause that much of a stir. I think I would have gotten more of a response in the country for not having a pocket knife. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3mo9yoE
