cz p01 omega, beretta 92x compact, or usp 9c?

I want to switch to a decocker da/sa compact 9mm with a rail for ccw. I can’t find any of them to rent, plus the beretta is a rather new model. I dislike sigs. I’d like a comparative discussion, so please don’t comment “Don’t know about the other two but my X is great!” Thank you. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2oOYzKR

LCP II accidental mag release issue from thumb. Dremmel? Clipped spring?

Mag release is right where my thumb rests so just the recoil of firing it sometimes releases the mag. I've played around with different grips but it's too different from literally every other gun I've shot so I'm considering shaving down the button so it's a little tougher to press or shortening the spring if I can get to it.Anyone with the same problem have a better solution or has tried what I am thinking? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2msveoI

Considering changing my carry gun

Currently carrying a Walther PPS m2, the other day I was messing around and realized that a px4 fits deep into my holster. I did a bit of research and realized that there’s only 1/2” difference in thickness between the two guns.Would it be worth potentially upgrading to something like a px4 or p10c? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2nVdVwZ

Yet another time I was happy to have it and not need it last night (+2 bonus stories from recent years)

Commerce rambling, read at your leisure if you're bored enough. Not like I needed any reinforcement to carry but got a healthy dose last night anyway.Taco bell drive through line was wrapped around the building so I go inside since I only saw 3 teenage guys at the counter. Thought they were ordering but they were just rambling in semi-english about getting money and didn't order anything. Ok whatever, other girl in back glares at cashier guy and says to take my order. Guys wander outside.Get food and walk out, guys are sitting in the dark corner of the patio area smoking weed (still illegal here). Idiots, but again, whatever. As I walk to my car parked literally right next to them, I can't help but hear their conversation which included, verbatim, "I unno why we gotta keep robbin people when mom's got money." Followed almost immediately when they notice me with "nice car, sure would like to have it."With hand already in pocket click safety off (Sig p238 for the curious)."Thank you. I'd like to keep it."This is was in the county outskirts of a mid-sized city with a low crime rate (Huntsville, AL), not some impoverished inner city block with sky high crime rate. Just another reminder to pay attention to your surroundings. Shitty people with bad intentions aren't quarantined to certain areas of a city or inside a TV screen. This last part was really directed at the less gun friendly folks on my FB, not to the folks here who live in reality and already know this. Some may laugh at this non-incident, but these guys were literally talking about robbing people both inside and outside the restaurant for anyone to hear while knowingly committing a crime, however silly its classification (smoking weed). Like everyone else here, much rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.......................Slow day, so fuck it, here's a couple others I've had within the last few years. One I was at home watching TV with the gf around midnight. Lights off but TV on and cars in driveway, people obviously home. I hear and see a lady walk up on my porch then knock on the door. Being a southern gentleman, I get up to see what's going on and if she needs help. Being a cautiously optimistic person, I also grab my pistol off the coffee table in front of me.When I get to the door, I ask without opening what's going on. She's frantically begging me to open the door and needs help for some reason she won't disclose. I notice a truck on the street that's not usually there, lights off but someone sitting in the driver's seat. She notices the pistol in my hand. She screams and bolts. Now I'm worried I'm an asshole and just scared away a woman who legit needed help...until I saw the guy running up my driveway from the backyard and both jump in the truck and speed off.She was a fucking diversion for this guy to come in the back and had a getaway driver waiting out front................Second "major" DGU that never was, happened when my car broke down on the way home from a wedding way out of town. Got towed to the dealership around 2am after waiting a while plus the drive. As the guy is unloading, this monstrosity of a man that's got to be pushing 7 feet and 300lb+ comes around the corner and bee lines for us. Starts talking about needing some money that we obviously have (me still in my suit from the wedding) as he reaches in his pocket. I toss my coat to the side and put a hand on my now visible, shiny S&W 357 and politely inform him that we don't have anything he wants. He puts the now obvious knife back in his pocket and mutters something under his breath and saunters off.It was only then I notice the tow truck driver with his t-shirt pulled up and his hand on his pistol as well. Turns out he's former military, currently a firearm instructor, and not his first time bumping into such opportunistic creatures of the night. Said he was glad to have some backup for a change haha.................I'm rambling on to illustrate a point that most of us already know. That the impossible statistic of DGUs will never be able to be quantified because the majority don't ever make so much as a local headline or even a police report. All 3 of these incidents I called police to inform them of what happened and provide what descriptions I could. The most they ever offered was to send someone by to check out the area sometime, but I never spoke with any police in person. Technically nothing really happened so it fell off their radar the second we hung up.For what it's worth, for anyone newer or doubting themselves about carrying in seemingly safe scenarios, just remember that it's not paranoid to be prepared. You buckle up and don't expect to wreck, you have smoke detectors and don't expect a fire, you lock your doors and don't expect to be robbed...don't let anyone convince you that you're doing something wrong by being armed whenever you can be in the unlikely case that you need to be. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2nUb9Is

Out-of-State College Student purchasing

Hey everyone, you may remember a few weeks or so ago I asked if an out-of-state college student can purchase a handgun in the state of their school. I want to share what I've learned for any of the millions of college students this may apply to, as well as organize everything for myself. Some helpful replies to my earlier post pointed me to ATF ruling 80-21 which states:... [D]uring the time the students actually reside in a college dormitory or at an off-campus location they are considered residents of the State where the dormitory or off-campus home is located.Additionally, section 922(t) of the Gun Control Act requires licensees to examine a valid "identification document" (as defined in 18 U.S.C. 1028(d) and 27 CFR 478.11) of a firearm transferee. However, what they fail to mention is how students living on campus are expected to prove residency with government issued documents stating your on campus address. That is, without utility bills or (if a full-time student) tax documents which are generally required to get any other form of state issued identification, such as a driver's license or voter registration. And apparently a signed statement of on campus residency from the school's department of housing on official school letterhead is not considered government issued proof of residency, even though it is a public school :).Moving forward though, on page 5 section B of ATF form 4473, under the instructions for question 18b:Licensees may accept a combination of valid government-issued documents to satisfy the identification document requirements of the law.Additionally, ATF ruling 2001-5 lists the following forms of acceptable government issued identification documents:...Vehicle registration, a recreation identification card, a fishing or hunting license, a voter identification card, or a tax bill.Being a full time out-of-state student we can rule out vehicle registration (It's officially my father's vehicle, under his insurance and registered back home), tax documents, and voter identification (registered back home). After doing some research, full time out-of-state college students can get in state hunting licenses in Georgia. However, Georgia hunting licenses only list your DNR id # and expiration date and not address. Again turning to page 5 section B of ATF form 4473, under the instructions for question 18b:A valid electronic document from a government website may be used as supplemental documentation...Thus it is my understanding that the government website which issued my hunting license and includes my campus address may be considered valid government issued documentation. However, now I'm faced with a new problem. According to ATF ruling 2001-5, a government issued identification document displaying a post office box address does not "satisfy the requirements of the regulations implementing the Brady Act." At my school, when you live on campus you are given a post office box to which all your mail is sent (mail like new hunting licenses). So I'll have to update this address to that of my actual dorm. I'll update this post with any new information that is sure to come up during this process.PS: Now I just have to find an FFL dealer willing to deal with all these caveats.PS 2: To answer any questions that may come up, you can carry concealed on campus but not in your dorm (which kind of defeats the purpose). So it'll live with my friend off campus between our weekly range outings. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2mjK7cU

Woman in Chicago, need help getting started.

Hi! I'm a female resident in Chicago, Illinois. I just made the decision to concealed carry and I only have very little firearms experience previously. After doing some online research I would love some advice from you.Firearm selection. I'm 5'5'' high and weigh about 116 pounds. Also I work in consulting so I wear tight outfits(dress shirts, dresses, suits, etc.), do you think G19 or P320 Carry will be acceptable? If not, what's your opinion on G26? (I know it comes down to personal preference but I really want a gun that can accept standard double stack magazines as extra mags.)Do you think if it's necessary to have attachments like weapon lights, red dot sights and mag wells? What kind of carry and holsters do you recommend for a woman like me? Due to my workplace dress code restrictions I wear dress shirts and dresses 5 days a week. What kind of decent tactical shooting training can I find around Chicago? Is it necessary to take some kind of hand to hand combat training? What's you tricks to decrease carry weights?I suffer from severe migraines so I probably need a decent ear pro for training. What ear pro do you recommend? How do you deal with anti-gun persons around you? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2n7A2QC

Is this common for FFLs

I oreded a Shield 9 2.0 for a really great price online and had it sent to my FFL. When it was ready for pick up they told me that that I was lucky because they didn't realize they had one in stock. If they had known that they wouldnt have transferred it to me. Is this common practice? It seems silly to turn away business like that. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2oDrgKP

Recommendation for a medium to small length pistol in . 45?

So currently I EDC a Glock 17.5. I like it for the most part and my holster is great, but the long grip length makes the butt stick out and print. I'm in the market for a . 45 for EDC and I would like something with a shorter grip, ideally one to two inches less so it won't print. Any ideas? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2mNek4y

A replacement for "Always run away, if you can"

I am german and this is about germany. I write in english for others knowing german jurisdiction or the european situation to contribute aswell. For americans: we cannot get guns easily.

Most people being bullied in the past are being recommended to take martial arts / self defense lessons.

IME, in every single self defense lesson you are being told to run away, if possible. Running away might save your life, but it also reinforces the belief that you cannot handle a physical encounter and that your self defense class is just gymnastics. Given that police is never of any help, because they want evidence that you don't have, you have no way to counter abusive behaviour.

This is trauma after trauma. Even behavioural therapists say: repeat a traumatic situation and end it in a good way that empowers you. "I will die and therefore I run away" is everything but empowering, sorry to break it to you.

I have always had a beef with the statement "run away" and now I understood why. Because it reinforces helplessness. Also, it reinforces the belief of inability to defend yourself, which made you a victim of bullying in the first place; if you should always run away if you can, probably the techniques don't work.

Now, maybe the techniques do work, but the "always run away" statement neither helps you deal with trauma nor does it empower you. Therefore the question is, what a better replacement is.

PS: I will ignore every post defending the "always run away if you can" statement

Looking for a smaller, easy to conceal handgun.

I have a S&W SD9VE. I love it. However, I’m looking for something easier to conceal. I wear slim fitting clothes as a 180lb 5’11 male. My handgun just looks way too obvious to the point where it looks ridiculous. I’ve been looking at a few options:Ruger EC9s. It’s pretty small and compact. Taurus 856 .38 special 2” barrel (I’ve looked at more recent reviews and people seem to love it). Ruger LCP 380 ACPThese have much lower ammo capacities, but I’m willing to sacrifice that for better concealment. I like revolvers too, so I’m leaning towards the Taurus, but both the Rugers have room for one more round.Which would you recommend? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2mPs4vt

Options for carrying with a tucked in shirt

Iowa resident with a Minnesota Non-resident permit heading to MN today for a family event. I'm dressed in khaki's and a long sleeve button up shirt that is tucked in.I normally carry a S&W M&P Shield IWB @ 4 o'clock with an Alien Gear Cloak Tuck holster. The weather today isn't conducive to wearing a jacket so I'm not carrying on my person, rather I'll be leaving my gear in the lockbox in the vehicle. Low profile dress belt options?

I know the usual gunbelt options. I’ve got a Hanks Gunner and a 1791 gunleather. They’re great, BUTThey are a bit too thick and too casual for office shirt and tie wear. Sometimes I need to wear legit dress slacks and a shirt/tie tucked in. That means the belt option needs to be clean and classy enough to look appropriate. It also needs to not be so intense as to stick out or overpower the rest of the outfit. What I mean is, it needs to be able to work as a proper gunbelt, but your typical 14oz, 5+ mm thick hanks style steerhide would stick out like an awkward eyesore when you are dressed like thisSo, what are your go to options? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2m0GcSh

Thinner g19?

For those who don't know. Shield arms is coming out with a custom mag for the g43x where the plastic exterior of the mag is removed and the interior has more space allowing for more stacking of the mag which results in a 15rd mag from a 10rd mag.The g48 with a 15rd mag is the same capacity as a Glock 19. This means that Glock can make a smaller frame for the 19 to fit those who consider the grips too thick like me.At this point it's literally just extended the frame of the 48 and giving a full length rail of a 19.What do y'all think about a thinner 19 or Glock to make oem metal mags for a thinner grip instead of metal/plastic lined. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2m04oEe

IWB holster advice for a bigger guy

As the title says, I am in need of some advice for an IWB holster for a bigger guy. I have a CZ P-07 Tactical with a comp and light and run IWB strong side. I have two different holsters already, each with its own pros and cons. I bought my first one off of Amazon. The main pro of it is it allowed the gun to sit a little bit lower and not jab into my side as much. The cons is I cant run my light on it and the comp goes passed the holster and allows direct contact to skin. The second holster you pretty much swap and pros and cons. It fixes the light and comp issue but it sits a little bit higher causing the beaver tail to jab my side a little bit more.https://ift.tt/2nvsqYa are pictures for a better understanding. Best way too defend myself in Canada?

I was wondering what would be the best things I could carry (weapons or otherwise) too defend myself if needed. My biggest concern is I have two severe knee injuries, which prevent me from running. What can I carry, with minimal training, that would increase my odds of successfully defending myself. Obviously a gun would be ideal, but that is not an option here. Thanks.

Clarification of Michigan CPL.

So I was reading this:https://ift.tt/2o0HGMP MICHIGAN PENAL CODE (EXCERPT) Act 328 of 1931750.234d Possession of firearm on certain premises prohibited; applicability; violation as misdemeanor; penalty.Sec. 234d.(1) Except as provided in subsection (2), a person shall not possess a firearm on the premises of any of the following: (a) A depository financial institution or a subsidiary or affiliate of a depository financial institution. (b) A church or other house of religious worship. (c) A court. (d) A theatre. (e) A sports arena. (f) A day care center. (g) A hospital. (h) An establishment licensed under the Michigan liquor control act, Act No. 8 of the Public Acts of the Extra Session of 1933, being sections 436.1 to 436.58 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. (2) This section does not apply to any of the following: (a) A person who owns, or is employed by or contracted by, an entity described in subsection (1) if the possession of that firearm is to provide security services for that entity. (b) A peace officer. (c) A person licensed by this state or another state to carry a concealed weapon. (d) A person who possesses a firearm on the premises of an entity described in subsection (1) if that possession is with the permission of the owner or an agent of the owner of that entity. (3) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 90 days or a fine of not more than $100.00, or both.On the back of a Michigan CPL, it says you cannot carry at several of the place mentioned above. Day care, hospital, etc.So why does it say that you can carry to these place as long as you're licensed by this state or another state to carry a concealed weapon?Am I reading this wrong? Can anyone help here? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2o7HNGz

people who have taken Clint Smith classes at Thunder Ranch, how does he teach weak hand/support hand one-arm reload?

I really like Clint Smith's safety aspect with his drills. how does he go about teaching a weak hand/support hand one-arm reload (as if your strong hand arm was injured & out of action)?edit: I became interested after watching a demo video of a drill at an LEO class went wrong, where a student using a browning hi-power (SAO) shot himself in the chest after struggling to disengage the safety, and since then, that drill was removed from the class.it seems like a lot of instructors on youtube videos advocate taking a knee, and using the support knee to hold the gun in place, where the barrel would be pointing into opposite leg. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2nnP5FI
