How do you carry at the gym?

My edc is a MR920 (glock 19 size), but I am also comfortable with my cr920 (glock 43 size) and my p365xl.I normally carry apendix, but most of my shirts are long enough with normal activities, but when lifting weights they dont cover enough. My current thought is just longer shirts, but if there is a good under shirt option I would be interested in that given that it did not require a second under shirt. Thigh holster is also something I have considered. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/zU7AQZO

Underrated Micro9! I have put about 1300 rounds through my Taurus Gx4 TORO without a single malfunction. I’ve owned a 365xl, g48, shield plus, and still own the 43x, and the Gx4 toro shoots better than all of them, and is the most comfortable to carry and shoot. Try it before u knock it

Full Size CCW For The Vertically Challenged

Does a basic self-defense stance go a long ways?

Knees bent, arms up, chin tucked, ready to react. Even though I may not be skilled, need training , and might still get hurt, it just feels like I've increased my chances of survival by doing this one thing . I don't even think most people know or use a self defense stance when they fight.

I know for certain I feel vulnerable if I'm standing straight not in a ready position to react.

1st Holster Suggestion for P365, Clueless!

Been shooting for years in MD and we can finally carry. I’ve never owned a holster because I had no need. Transported in safe to range and safe back home. I have my CCW classes in 2 weeks. I have a Sig P365 and am clueless at all the holster options. Looking to narrow it down to a handful to research. A side note, I run a lot in the 4a hour on trails through wooded areas and would like to carry here as well. Sounds like belly bands are best option? Again, clueless as to what to look for. Any insight is most helpful. Thanks!! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/69bhk1o

Does SD really help stop bullying?

And change the way you feel and see things? I feel at the very least it gives you some sort of hope and confidence that you never had before. Maybe you felt helpless but self defense gives you that power to have a choice. I'm guessing if bullies figure out that you can fight or at least defend yourself they'll think twice about picking on you.

Moving to Hawaii: Advice Wanted

I'll try not to ramble on but I'll give necessary details so I can hopefully get some adequate advice. I'm going to be moving from my current state, Florida, which I have a carry permit for, to Hawaii. I know they are not very "gun friendly" so I already know most of my collection will have to be stored somewhere. This move is because I am active duty military. My home of record is Florida, I'm registered to vote in Florida, I have a Florida driver's license with a Florida address, and of course, a Florida concealed carry permit. However, I will be residing in Hawaii during my tour.I am over the age of 21, the firearm I am looking to carry was bought in Florida and has a capacity of 8+1.My basic question is: Can I apply for a concealed permit? And if anyone with a similar circumstance can give me advice I would much appreciate it.I'm mentally prepared for bad news but if it's possible, I think it's worth my time to pursue. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/jIwCHQq

Best kicks for self defense?

What is some kicking advice for self defense? Specifically if someone greatly exceeds you in weight and reach?

Should it be long range side kicks for keeping distance? Leg kicks for slowing them down? Should you ever attempt a good head kick for a long range KO? Or does it put you in a risky range to get hit back?

Could someone recommend a pepper spray to carry?

Hello- I’m walking around the city and enter some skittish neighborhoods. I encounter aggressive homeless people and junkies constantly. I’ve had my personal space Invaded and have been swung at several times in the last few years. I’d like to carry a pepper spray that’s effective, accurate and can either clip on my belt or fit into a pocket.

I do not plan to use it unless I’m forced too but it’ll be more comfort knowing I have it. This city is crazy since covid and the police have their hands tied with it. Almost daily I have a homeless guy or a junkie at me. Thank you! Cost isn’t a concern, I’d like an accurate and powerful option

Opinions on arms?

Effectively untrained in self defence opinion incoming. I feel like self defence past the initial stage of preemptively avoiding the threat, is mainly deterrence. I presume assaulters and other street criminals select their targets after all, and putting myself in their shoes I'm not gonna go for the 6'3" jacked guy when I can try and mug the 5'5" woman, if I was picking a target.

With that in mind, that seems to be the main benefit of a weapon in self defence, to deter the attempt. Now the extreme end is to have a gun holstered or openly carry a machete around, but I'm in the UK so I'm not thinking of anything like that. Putting myself in the shoes of a criminal again I would hesitate if I knew my target had even something innocuous like a hickory cane, pepper spray can or a Swiss army knife, or was likely to have one.

Of course the event of having to use the weapon is a whole other ball game, and that gets more severe as the lethality goes up: hard to differentiate in the chaos between good machete man and bad machete man.

So I guess it's this: should a rather innocuous level of defensive tools be with the average person out and about, like a cane? Or is this basically nonsense?

Are straightpunches not likely from untrained ppl?

I hear most experts say people with little fighting experience usually don't throw straight punches and aren't expecting them either. They say to expect haymakers or some sort of overhand hook. Not sure why but I guess a straight punch takes more skill and technique to do. You can't assume an untrained person will just throw haymakers but if it's likely that could really help in how you handle the situation. Just want some clarity on this.

Thinking about carrying my 92FS for days where I might be in heightened danger. How feasible is it for a not very big guy?

I know the 92FS has been discussed ad nauseum as an EDC, and the takeaway has almost always been “you can try it but you’ll give up” but I’m coming at it from a slightly different angle. My 92FS is my soul gun. I shoot it better out of the box than anything else. But because it’s so big, and I’m not (5’9” 190lbs), I never carry it, it’s my nighstand gun and my range gun and then depending on weather I have either a P320c or a 642 that get the job done, but I don’t love either. Here’s the thing-while my P320c will work in a pinch, there are days where I know I will be facing a more danger than average. I own some rental properties in some pretty questionable neighborhoods, a lot of people know me there and know I’m the wealthiest guy for blocks, and some don’t love me. The few times a month I’m over there I can certainly feel some animosity, and feel like I should be better prepared if things hit the fan.So, I’m wondering if I should start carrying my 92FS the 3 or 4 days a month I have to deal with it. I’m fine being uncomfortable for a few hours, but I’m wondering if I can even pull it off without printing something fierce-I’m fine with jackets and/or baggy shirts but worried I’m pushing it no matter what via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/F6cEKaX

Should I switch to 10mm?

Possibly moving to interior Alaska in the near future. With the cost of moving, I will be thinning out everything I own including my firearms. Currently carry 9mm but considering I may only be taking one pistol, I am considering switching to 10mm as my daily carry since I will be outdoors as much as I can.Any input or experience would be greatly appreciated.P.S. not sensitive to recoil. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/0SYB7zn

Living in a country with weird self defence laws.

In the last 20 or so years crime has started to spiral out of control in my country both organised and unorganised crime. While I’m not too worried about the organised crime as that shouldn’t impact me too much I am starting to worry a lot about the not so organised crime as it seems the police are too busy or incompetent (I’m not a police officer so I’m not going to judge) to bring forth a decent solution. For example just in this one week there was a stabbing on a friends block, my dad witnessed another stabbing and my grandparents had their car vandalised. We all live in a fairly rural area with one small city (+-50k) and a few very small towns and yet this isn’t uncommon at all.

Now in different countries firearms or pepperspray / tazers are legal but where I live these are highly illegal and only carried by certain police officers / the military. Carrying knives / force amplifiers is also in a legal gray area while using them in self defence is again highly illegal. Even regular hand to hand self defence can get you in a lot of trouble.

All this makes me worry about if there is anything that I can do other than looking the other way and avoiding all conflict to prevent myself from becoming a victim.

Is there anything I that I could possibly do to make me feel a bit more safe when being outside of the relative safety of my own home?

why guns are rarely used in self defense

If you look at statistics, you’ll see that guns are rarely used to stop crimes. Here’s the thing about that though… the overwhelming majority of incidents in which crimes are completely stopped, go unreported, because the crime was prevented, thus, they are not included in any statistics anywhere. No record of them exists. I know people who have used guns to stop crimes.

My cousin always carries, and he drives a tow truck. A few years ago, the guy who’s car he had to tow came charging at him saying he was going to F him up, and my cousin simply pulled back his shirt to reveal his holstered weapon, and that was the end of the incident. Why would my cousin feel the need to report that? Nothing happened. No one got hurt. The guy went back inside his house and my cousin towed his car, and continued with his day.

Stuff like that happens. I can’t tell you how often, and no one else can either. I’m glad my cousin had his gun with him though, because otherwise he may have been badly hurt, or even killed. Who knows what that guy was really going to do? Maybe he would have just acted tough and done nothing anyway, but maybe he would have beaten the crap out of my cousin.

The problem with anti-gun laws is that they don’t stop violence, and they don’t stop criminals from getting guns. All they really do, is prevent law-abiding people from having guns for self-defense.

Another way to illustrate this, is to use those people who made videos of themselves, destroying their own guns, in response to one of the mass shootings. Were these well-meaning, empathetic people planning to commit a mass shooting? Probably not, so… them destroying their guns does literally NOTHING to prevent mass shootings. It helps in no way. It is a gesture of good will, and nothing more. On the flip side, are people who ARE planning mass shootings going to give up their guns? 100% absolutely not. Not only will they never give up their guns; they’ll buy them on the black market if they’re somehow prevented from buying them legally.

The only legitimate way to prevent mass shootings is to allow everyone to carry, everywhere. Now, I know you might react to that with a laugh, thinking that its absurd and stupid. Please consider what I’m about to say.

People who commit mass shootings are not brave. They are the most cowardly type of person. The type of person that doesn’t care if they have a completely unfair advantage. The type of person that doesn’t care if they kill innocent people. The type of person who wants to feel powerful, and destroy lives, unchallenged. This is not the type of person who starts a fight on equal ground.

If everyone is potentially carrying a gun, these mass shooters wouldn’t have the balls to open fire, because they very well may be gunned down before they fire a single shot, or at least before they kill anyone. Think about that shooting in Las Vegas. those people were helpless, and gunned down like sheep. What if 20 of them had guns? What if 90 of them had guns? What if 400 of them had guns? How many lives would have been saved if the shooter was met with return fire? If it really was just one guy who killed 59 people and wounded 500 more, how long do you honestly think the shooter would have lasted if half of those people were armed? A few people may have died. Maybe even 10. The shooter had more powerful weapons than most would be carrying, so he might have still killed several people, but they would have gotten him pretty quickly. He would have had seconds.

Getting rid of “Gun Free Zone,” signs would be a start. Imagine a sign outside a school with a picture of a gun that said, “Our Teachers Carry.” Even if 0 teachers in that school had a gun, the sign alone might scare off a would-be shooter. If a few teachers actually did…it might stop one if one did try.

Very few humans want to randomly murder other humans. Most of us just want to live our lives and be happy. Most of us would save someone’s life if we were ever in the position too. I saved someone’s life once. It didn’t even feel like a choice. I wasn’t thinking about what to do. A girl stopped breathing. I gave her mouth to mouth. She came back. You just do it, because it’s a life, and you instinctively want to protect life.

That extends well beyond other humans too. Most of us wouldn’t run over a squirrel on purpose. Yes there are still hunters, but hunting used to be mandatory for survival, and became a tradition. I think an argument can be made against game hunting, but no law should ever be made against hunting, because we have the right to hunt for food.
