Hospital Visit Experience

Had a family emergency on Saturday and had to ride in the ambulance... I didn't even think about my CCW until I was walking into the hospital. They had a whole scanner, etc. He goes to wand me and I was like yeah, I can't go through that. He's like 'OK no problem we'll use the wand'. I was like 'no I am carrying a firearm'. He said something like "I got you, that happens all the time'.So meanwhile my SO is getting triaged they called downstairs, had security (who are unarmed) come and take me downstairs, put it in a lock box and then return upstairs. He took me to the side out of view, asked me to put my holster in a temporary locking back (kind of like a binder with a lock on it). I placed it in, he locked the outside, and then we took a 5 minute long walk with him, we went to like a secondary lower basement where the security guys all are, with cameras etcThere was a lockbox and a sign in sheet. I filled in my name and my CCW#. He asked and I didn't see a reason not to. He also said a DL# would work. I didn't really think about it, in the future I don't know if I would have given that outFairly smooth process and the security guys were totally nice and professional. However - the whole thing IMO didn't do much. If there was a 'active shooter' scenario... it's unlikely they're interested in walking through the metal detectors. And even if they were... I failed my metal detector and the guy wanded me. A simple ankle holster would have obviated his searching. And a liberator or other polymer piece for a movie style hit? could have literally walked in and out.I guess the only thing I was thinking was "well if someone breaks in and shoots the ER up, at least we're in the ER already".I understand the need to secure firearms especially in a hospital setting, but that to me means that the security should be locked and loaded, not unarmed.A better setup would probably be - and I don't know why they didn't have it for the ER - a door lock system. The whole hospital has it. You get buzzed in here and there. But the front door of the ER you can walk right in.I dunno - 50% felt like security theater. 50% felt reasonable.100% I wish they had a locker CLOSER to me. Maybe one at each entrance to store peoples stuff that's not allowed in - idk, lighters, knives, guns, etc.Upon checkout, I informed them I had stored a firearm with them and they take me back down. this time they allowed me to holster it immediately and I walked halfway through the hospital carrying, following the security guard. What the hell is the point of that lol? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3D5qo2m
